What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I had a successful morning but not in quite in the way you might think. First problem was trying to get in the car with -6 out there. Finally I got in, and then it said it didn't recognize the key. Finally I got that sorted. Defrosted the windscreen and all that. Managed to get down to the surgery car park, but no space is for love or money. And it looks like from the hard frost on the car windows and windscreens that half the cars on there are just left on there permanently.

I managed to find car parking space a bit of a distance away, and obviously had to use my scooter no way I could walk that distance. I got in there and then the surgery screen wouldn't recognize my appointment. So, I had to go to reception. Oh you've come on the wrong day she said your appointment is tomorrow, she says condescendingly. As though I am a batty old lady.

We can't do anything about it for today you'll have to come back tomorrow. And I said but no my appointment was today Monday. So the exasperated receptionist is trying to explain to this batty old lady that I've got it wrong. So I fished my appointment card out of my bag, and I said look here this says Monday today. So she says oh. And calls for the practice manager. Practice manager comes out she explains and he says oh put her with Michael, Michael will see her.

And before the practice manager can walk away I say I want to see you, he was taking aback but said come back to reception after seeing Michael.

A short wait in a different part of the building and Michael calls me in. And he asked why I'm there. And all I can explain is that I am confused and bewildered about this appointment and I have no idea and I explain about the text out of the blue last week and I explain about this incorrect referral etc etc. And no one has explained what this blood test is about. Anyway Michael couldn't find a reason for the blood test and he didn't know what to test me for so he produced the general some sort of blood test form. And then a few minutes later he said give me that back, you're diabetic aren't you. Type 2, I said. Right he said I'll put you in for a diabetic review and these tests will be for to see how your diabetes is going. How about that he said. That suits me just fine I said, I will be pleased with that.

So then off to reception to get hold of the practice manager. I told him all the problem with the incorrect referral and incorrect information etc etc, because I'd written the letter and it was a fairly concise letter I could remember all the points on it so I just went through mentally in my mind all the points in the letter but the main point was the incorrect details of the eye hospital, of my attendance to it. Saying I had not attended when I had. And I would like that checked out and corrected

I don't know exactly what I was expecting him to do then, but it went more or less as I thought it might, which he was trying to get out of it with smooth talking and said it didn't matter, nothing to worry about, and said that my 20th of December appointment at St Paul's Eye Hospital will be fine etc etc. He deflected everything I said. He did not want to address any of the issues. He just wanted me gone So I will actually be sending him that letter in a day or so.

The blood testing has opened up in the health centre again It had not been functional from about 2019 for some reason, and so I went to the desk and said could I arrange for blood test here oh no you going to have to go and telephone for it she said, I told her I couldn't do that because I was deaf. She still said she couldn't do it, so I didn't say anything but just looked at her. Finally, hang on she said give me a minute and she went to the back and a few minutes later came back and said the lady will see you now you can have your blood tests now.

So that was a good result and efficiently done because I really do not want to go out again in this cold weather.

But when I got back to the car I was locked out. The temperature had been -5 but I found out later when I got back in the car, it had dropped to -8 and the car completely frozen up again. I'm trying to yank and yank at the doors to try and get in but they had frozen solid.

There was now a freezing fog very thick fog and I just want to get home as quick as possible. Someone stronger than me got my doors open for me. And now I'm in bed wrapped up with loads of layers the cat is on me the heater is going and the temperature won't rise as much as I'd like it to. But I am snug as a bug in a rug. An electric blanket on and the cat approves immensely.

I actually made a weird tent over my bed head and over me with one of my big dressing gowns, the cat doesn't know what I'm playing at and I am underneath it dictating this on my phone.

Oh, and I managed to get 2 trays eggs from the Polish shop, they had just had a huge pallet of eggs delivered. The date is after Christmas on it so if I could have got one more that would have lasted me to the new year, but never mind. I felt greedy taking three trays of eggs (Even though they have a big part of controlling my diabetes), so maybe they might still be some left when I next go. But this temperature has got to rise first before I go out again, with the key saying it didn't exist, and the car freezing the locks up when I'm out and about. There were a lot of shops closed today and I would have liked to have done a bit more shopping but it wasn't possible.

I now have to feed the frozen wild beasts, and stray cats, and I don't want to get out of this bed ...

Hug for the parking, car door and people skill issues. Winner for the diabetic bloods being done, the eggs and simply for being you. Stay warm.

Good morning everyone from a below zero temperature here in the dark and dangerous north. Reports are in about planes grounded and journeys dangerous to take in all this snow but to date, our tranche has still to be delivered. Bit like winter fuel payments then - talk about leveling up! Today is mainly about getting all the preparations done in a timely fashion and ready for the 8am game of “Phone That Number”. Why my GP tells me to come back for a review when it would be easier to build a glider, in secret, in the attic and somehow launch it without removing the roof. Art bit - bare outlines of the next big thing. Have the very best day that you can possibly have, I have decided that the promised 4deg rise in temperature by 1pm is to be celebrated by getting the deck chairs out or at least hanging out the washing Mrs Siegfried. Koffy - must have koffy before the 8am deadline.

Wow! A cliffhanger @dunelm

Hope your day worked out for you...

Wintry moon breaking through the dark clouds. Wonderful.

Glad you have managed to work out what to say to your daughter. Excellent approach - bare essentials and wait for the response before giving more information. Your daughter will know how much she can cope with at a time.

Best wishes for seeing the nurse today.
Thanks @Annb
I appreciate you agreeing with my approach. I do tend to give too much information in the first place, that is the fault of mine. I realised how scared she was, so she can only cope with just a tiny bit of information at a time....

Thank you.

Wow! Precipitous pathway there. Looking forward to further developments.

I was wondering about winter fuel payments. My brother was saying it is to be higher this year, but there's no sign of it arriving - not even the usual letter. Had to use my overdraft to buy oil last week and just hope the payment comes sometime soon to help pay that off.
I haven't had the winter fuel payment either, nor a letter @Annb

Slept in the blue bedroom last night. So cosy, although the uphill climb to get to the bathroom will take some getting used to.
We, well MrSlim and son2, did level the floor in the master bedroom also known as the green bedroom. By the rather hair raising method of removing some of the little blocks of wood holding it up above the beam it should have been resting on - and then jumping until it settled several inched lower. Thus reducing the slope to minimal. However the unusual construction of the ceiling above the original kitchen, now part of the salon made alterations and insulation impossible without taking it all down. It is constructed of hollow ceramic tile like pieces somehow individually held up by wires. A totally unique way of building a ceiling. MrSlim decided to leave well alone. This has resulted in a bedroom that is warmer because the chimney breast and the ceiling/underfloor both retain heat. The pink bedroom above the previous downstairs bedrooms, which are now part of the salon has a standard fairly level wooden floor insulated above a plasterboard ceiling. It appears as if no heat gets through as this is the coldest room in the house.
Are any of you interested in all this?
@gennepher best wishes for you today.
Yes @SlimLizzy I do find that very interesting.
Thank you very much for your wishes.

Whilst good morning is the Norm (little chap, always wears a trilby) it may not be appropriate for everyone so insert your own salutation. Bright, cold and heavy on the heating bills here but unlike a few my WFP arrived in timely fashion and has been squirreled away for possible use on making the heating system more effective. Alexa will insist on playing should I stay or should I go? and the *'d. JKP bullied - can't really describe it any other way - B Gas into completely restoring MIL's heating today not by their definition of urgent. @dunelm best wishes for that glider and appointment. Thanks for sharing the first steps on your next journey of a thousand Li - must find my Little Red Book. @gennepher I'm glad you have two plans for those two problems. Thanks for sharing the creative which is like this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-63859184. a bright ray of light and a glance of better things. Today's poem https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/blog/. I'd take Linda Richardson's advice and look again at your creative. @lindisfel not too many hill climbs in this weather. @Annb hug for the cold and missing WFP but winner for the making with EM. @SlimLizzy along with others I'm interested so thanks. Thoughts and prayers for those in anyway involved in the tragedies in Jersey and the West Midlands. We may be orf to deliver Christmas cards to The Old Country. Along with Christmas crackers I think cards are well past their sell by date - JKP begs to differ so guess who wins? I'm still holding the line for no photos or pictures on walls but the force is strong with that lady. The US meedja seem to be very perceptive (see attached) but Mr Gove has taken a whole tub of umbridge. "They" do say the truth hurts and he may have "issues" of his own https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ries-over-800bn-post-brexit-trade-deals-claim . Have safe but spiffing days - no guys there wasn't a missing L

Thanks @ianpspurs for your words...
And thanks for the lyrics.
Glad that JKP gave a rocket up the rear end of British Gas...to restoring MIL's heating.

I haven't had the winter fuel payment either, nor a letter @Annb
I guess those civil servants are just too busy with all the extra money they are handing out. According to my brother (I'm not sure where he gets his information from or how accurate his informants are) one problem is that the staff don't want to work from their offices since covid, so they do what they can from home, but the fancy equipment that allows them to do these bulk mailings/banks transfers etc, are only accessible in their offices. So stuff doesn't get done. Not sure if that isn't some kind of "conspiracy theory", or some new "urban myth".

We had ours earlier in November

Evening all.

A very mixed bag today, but I'm putting it down as a win.

Returned to GP re T2D review results .
Guy taking the review....just a STAR.

We had an open & honest discussion regarding where my HBA1c is & why I think it's temporary
Covered my remission status of 40 back in 2019.

Curiosity has always had me wanting to ask how many do so well ?
So it seemed to perfect moment to ask, right..?

Outcome was about 4.....mmh

Explained he sees maybe 10-12 patients a week ....x 52...a round figure circa 500....

not too shabby, JJ, not to shabby.

Impressed how well I'd done,
And how clear I was about diet food etc

Best review to date...very happy.

Downside was I now need some more meds .

Freezing cold day here in the capital, snow still here .

But as I was out to GP anyway, I thought I'd make the most of the outing....

So a little jaunt to Hyde park and a few pics to boot on the Ebike finished up my time outdoors.

Strong guys the Poles, When I was young I worked at the Gasworks in Lincoln as an Electrician. A Pole we called Tiny picked up a 14 stone Electrician by his overall lapels and put him down after moving him to a different place at forearm length.
Not sure if my Dad could have done that. He was a lovely gentle person and I do wonder how he coped with being a soldier in WW2. I know it affected him as he wouldn't say very much about it. He did have a traumatic time, imprisoned in Spain, escaped and ended up joining a Polish regiment in Scotland.

He learnt English while stationed in Scotland - so had a very interesting accent.

Late posting fbg which was 5.3. My friend who is a hairdresser cut my hair at 8.15am this morning.

After a frantic search for M&S vouchers that I had put in a 'safe place' I then went off off to Norwich by bus. I had been searching for them for 3 days and found then only 5 minutes before I left.

Bought thermal leggings with M&S vouchers then met a friend for coffee and an exchange of presents in the cafe in the forum.

Got back and we went off to Foulsham to buy a lovely pair of knee high leather boots for the winter - my Christmas present.

Sadly Archie has suddenly taken a turn for the worse and has a 9.15am appointment tomorrow at the vet.

My uncle was at Montycasino in his tank, it's was the Poles who took the fortress when all the army had their advance held up.

We should get it eventually then.....
