What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Usual issues at my blood draw today ,- my veins don't like needles so they jump away meaning they have to dig around and I end up with two bruised arms as they always hope other arm is better and start again on other arm! Results in about a week but I've already had part one of the you should take statins talk based on previous years LDL cholesterol results but no mention of the fact that all my other results over past almost six years including my blood sugars have been in their normal range. We also had the why do you bother fasting for the full lipids panel as for usual lipids you wouldn't need to fast. Her jaw positively dropped when I said I didn't find fasting difficult as did it most days........ Part 2 and results next Thursday.
I also felt annoyed when waiting in waiting room as the screen was showing a healthy eating presentation which I wanted to argue with. It encouraged you to drink pure fruit juice as one of your healthy 5 a day - I know for a fact that my daily orange juice consumption contributed to my hba1c of 97! Why do they always focus on fruit rather than vegetables?
Anyway needed more food today for some reason and a glass of wine,!
Breakfast one rasher of bacon, egg and mushrooms
Lunch LC wrap with filling of tinned wild salmon mixed with some avocado followed by some kefir and 100% chocolate
Dinner salmon in lemon butter with asparagus and glass of dry white wine followed by LC chocolate brownie.

Completely agree re the focus on fruit rather than veg, and fruit juice doesn’t even have the benefits a piece of fruit gives. Makes me so cross!
Do you think the stress of it all was part of the reason you wanted to eat a bit more today? The blood draw in particular sounds a bit of a palaver.

Thank you - I already have quite a collection I use for freezing whey and concentrated stock. I’ll repurpose some of them. I’ve a bit of a Tupperware addiction so don’t want it spilling over into ice cube trays!
I only have one tray. When it's frozen the contents get decanted into plastic bags - just remember to label them!

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and a dgf keto kiss cookie.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a food dr bar.
Dinner: egg mayo on a LC roll, coleslaw and cherry tomatoes followed by DGF Xmas pudd. and cream.

Day 5 trying to avoid nuts, dairy and alcohol (2 out of 3 again)

8 am B: 50g greek yoghurt with seeds and berries

Mid morning . Did cave in to a coffee with cream, half as much cream as usual but it was great and did stave off hunger pangs until

2pm lunch: 90 second bread with butter and garlic sausage. Then found some hm broccoli soup in the fridge. I'd made it last night and forgotten it.
1 sq 85% chocolate

5:30 dinner: 2 portobello mushrooms with garlic butter, topped with ham and crushed pork scratchings. Green salad.
1 shop bought éclair 12g carbs

Brunch - 2 slices of toasted cheese on slc bread. Mug of earl grey tea

Dinner - Large mushroom & onion omlette with salad. Half a bar of a small moser roth 85% bar. Large glass of pepsi max

I have just not long had a packet of cheesies & a handful of mixed nuts :hungry: time for me to go to bed soon me thinks and I will stop eating for a while ...

I think we’ve all had those Brown Blob Surprise sinners that turn out to be weird and wonderful mixtures
I've had this type of surprises, but what's the opposite of wonderful?
Your language fails me but your typo seems very appropriate to my experiences with Brown Freezer Blobs. Such disappointment must be a sin.

I'd express that as "interesting", but the "" is vital, to suggest interesting in a not interesting way.

"binnable", "awful", "pathetic", "lousy", "execrable" - your choice. Depends on how un-wonderful it is. Maybe simply "disappointing"?

I know the mystery frozen surprise meal all too well :D

So far Just 2 eggs and a small avocado.

Feel a bit miserable cause caught the dreaded lurgy, though I don't really feel that bad considering.

The wild levels the brain will go to to sabotage you when trying to lose weight and keep the carbs down though.

"it's okay, piece of cake won't hurt, have a sandwich, have some crisps... you aren't well afterall, you can make a better go of it when you are well again!"

hnnnng, no

Breakfast: Egg mayonnaise on a slice of wholemeal bread and butter. Tea (3rd cup of the day.)

2nd meal will be: baked fish in milk. It will rather lonely on the plate without any vegetables but it will have to do since insides are still protesting over vegetables. The wholemeal bread has a lot of fibre in, so could be keeping it going, but it usually isn't an issue. Not having much, though, just in case.

To be fair to your brain, when you have one of the various lurgi (not sure what the plural of lurgi is), sticking strictly to a diet may not be the best idea. There are the mental aspects of illness as well as the physical ones. Not that going wholoesale for the carby things is a good idea either, but feeling good about your choices might involve a little drift from rigidity. Depends which option gives you the best dopamine hit. All of the above doesn't apply to intestinal issues which demands a rather more rigid approach in identifying and eliminating the baddy(ies).

Off to have another hot drink to keep fluid levels up and to warm me up - feeling very chilly today.

Now - there's an oddity = something else I don't understand. I tried to edit the reply to ravensmitten with this:

Edit: not sure (that is, I have no idea) why my earlier post has added itself to the top here. Just ignore it.

and it refused to load (does that from time to time) so I deleted the edit and it loaded absolutely fine. That's why I've added this extra post.

Sometimes the forum has those odd glitches, no idea why. But as long as it only happens very occasionally I guess we'll just live with it.

I didn't consider egg mayonnaise was in! score, I love a bit of egg mayo

Yeah, thanks :) I think you are right, I might eat a little more instead of keeping such a deficit for a few days but still keep it low carb, my first two weeks was really starting getting to grips eating low carb but not managing portion sizes rigidly yet, although some days I came under because I was far more full from eating real foods. I'd just started 2 days ago to work out what sensible deficit I needed for my goal, and adjust down accordingly, and then I started feeling grim.

And yes, I'd rather avoid wheat for the moment anyway as I find it upsets my gut, so that sort of makes it easier, also the fact that because we are staying in now, I just ordered shopping and resisted the crisps at the "recommended for you" and buy "again" part of the checkout process.

I just had a mackerel fillet and some salad instead, and a coffee with a bit more cream than I'd usually put which is lush.

I am finding since 2 and a bit weeks of low carb, I'm able to let those thoughts sit for a while instead of autopiloting into eating rubbish

I guess some of it is "the examined life"

Egg mayo is perfect. Tasty, filling, easy to make and very low carb! :hungry:
And it might have to be enough for me today. I'm very, very tired and am heading back to my bed right now. Should be on a Zoom meeting tonight so will try to get up for that before going back to bed again. All part of a different lurgi? We'll see.

Just sending you a hug for having a lurgy it happens and it does make it harder but well done you for sticking with it. You've got the right idea -things that we used to regard as naughty or a treat to be avoided because of the low fat diet rubbish are usually low carb and when feeling not brilliant it's great to be able to indulge in them without guilt as not increasing your carbs just your fats so yes to extra cream in your coffee, a good olive oil dressing with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar on your salads, butter on your veggies, lots of eggs mashed with butter or mayo just remember though if not making own mayo to check as especially those low fat or vegan ones can be packed with carbs so check.scrambled eggs in butter is an easy one to eat too if you are feeling under the weather. You will also feel loads better if you've indulged in low or no carb foods like fats as your blood sugar should thank you for it.
