What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone from a lovely quiet start to Chinese New Year here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.9 this am to the tune of Oh Well by Fleetwood Services. Year of the Dragon - will Wales win a cup? In other news the big Pink day rip off is fast approaching but I will serve up ashes - probably from the remains of a King Alfred low carb high carbon pancake recipe the day before. It’s going to be a busy week ahead! Today though is Veteran Breakfast Club followed by a wander round the Farmers Market saying, “how much?” - There is kimchi to buy as well as two sourdough boules with beetroot. Art bit - after Mondrian on a small postcard. Hope your day is a good one. I have some duck to marinade for tonigh but first I must finish my koffy. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Have fun at the Farmer's Market @dunelm
Love the Art Bit...

Good morning everyone from a gorgeously dry, bright, clear, wonderfully blue skied if too chilly for me L.A. No known fbg to report. @gennepher thank you for sharing the high quality and intriguing creative. @dunelm thanks for sharing another wonderful piece of art. Busy day ahead of you. I'm wondering how both yourself and the market traders will increase your wealth - Schrödinger's halfpenny? Nice thought to PM Derek. @Krystyna23040 hug for the trip and interesting that fbg is higher than of late - stress/cut back on steps?. It's not all diet driven. We watched the England Wales under 20 rugby last night - some strapping lads on that middle class/public school diet. Full grown chaps today so a poignant time for MIL and JKP when My Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is sung (hope that's fine by you @alf_Josiah) Proud and much loved Welsh husband and father very much still obviously in their hearts over forty years on. God save the King is awful imho. I like Flower of Scotland but this resonates deeply. Take care today but do let the sunshine in on your life.

Fbg 6.7

Wildlife nighttime videos
Badger very determined to get those cloths off the swing
Most of the cushions and covers are tied securely to the swing, but I have a couple either end of the swing just tucked in, hopefully to take some of the badger's attention away from pulling the tied in cushions and stuff too much. I think it partially works!!!

1min 15secs

Creative...pen and waterbrush on postcard...
And some white pen...

Time for a nap and a cuppa...

Have your best day...

Good morning@gennepher. If I remember correctly the badger used to pull the covers forward to reach the cat biscuits you put there. The fox used to eat them too. They must have smelled and tasted really good! I wonder if this led to the badger's recent behaviour? Best wishes and thanks for sharing the night time videos and art work. :)

Yesterday she took a turn for the worse, suffered a great deal which was torturous to witness and only when she settled to sleep I was persuaded to go home to rest as I was exhausted and needed to be fit enough to be with mum today. Soon after we reached home we got a call saying mum was taking her last breaths! We dashed back to mum's ward just too late. My mind is all over the place this morning and we are truly devastated and exhausted
So sorry to hear of your loss .xxx

Such a traumatic time.
Having to stand by while mum was in distress.....a terrible ordeal.

I do feel for you, like you, I felt reassured when my dad went into hospital, that everything was ok.

I too went home, exhausted having had little sleep over several days, full-time work, attending to mum at the home & popping up to see dad when he began feeling especially unwell.

I'd barely got home, before my call came from the hospital.

My heart breaks for you.

I think the thought mum isn't suffering any more & is at peace is perhaps the thing to hang on to right now

I pray the loving memories of her brings you some solace at this sad time.

As for posting, you keep on doing it when you need to.

I think the previous posters prove that

it's what we do best here.

Being there, for our forums friends IS who we are.

We're good at sharing & offering advice or a shoulder to lean on.

But even with that, there are sadly always going to be times when comforting & listening is all we can do.

Those moments like this, when life gets too hard, just knowing we can post here, & be listened to & supported by each other is a blessing.

We've all been there I think, and are better for it, that we have the richness of such a special space to unburden ourselves, among such good people.

i hope you feel able to do so whenever the need arises.

I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping that just posting may help.
Even if it is just hearing that you're doing as ok as can be expected.

We each lean on others at some point.
We're here if needed.

Sincere condolences.
May mum rest in eternal peace

Went to bed about 2330 last night - very tired and very sore but found I couldn't breathe very well so got up again at 0115. Pain was still bad, so I took some painkillers and sat upright in my chair and so managed to sleep until 0330. When I woke I realised that I have a cold developing - that why breathing was difficult. BG was pretty stable all night and still is - around 7.3 and 7.5.

Neil went to the pharmacy to collect my antibiotic prescription, so I'll start taking them shortly. Oddly, my knees haven't been so bad while my new pain has been around. That's something to be grateful for.

Years ago (before Tom became unable to communicate, so that's about 10 years) I remember developing a "dance", something along the lines of a tarantella, which I called "old woman trying to get out of a pair of tights" which amused Tom. I no longer wear tights due to the bandaged legs. Now I seem to have a new one. Not quite a dance, because it ends when my feet get to the floor and I stand up, it's called "even older woman, trying to get out of bed"!

Glad you have the antibiotics despite widespread shortages of so many medicines (and no French mustard apparently). The hug is for the pain and breathing issues but the humour in spite of everything probably deserved a winner. Take it easy today.

Yes there were cat biscuits on the swing a very long time ago @dogslife
But then I got the trail cameras, and quickly realised the badgers and foxes were eating my expensive cat biscuits I was putting out for the cat strays, most of who come only in the hours of darkness. I don't see them in the daytime.

So it was several ideas and several strategies later that I figured out a system that the foxes and badgers could not reach, in another sheltered location, unless they all grew a pair of wings.

But the cats foil me on that, especially Jade who brings mouthfuls of cat biscuits back to the swing (which she sits on most nights) so she can feed on them without leaving the swing. But Jade also catches mice from her swing vantage point...

I am not sure if the female badger is pregnant again, and she is maybe trying to steal soft blankets for her coming event...

Thank you...

6.8 this soccer Saturday. Hate that Americanism of our beautiful beloved game.
Tell your Yankee mates that it is association football.

Bad sleep last night, something upset my stomach and some up with indigestion, heartburn and a lot of wind.
Have taken tablets but I'm getting burning sensation when I drink my cuppa, gonna wait till later and have a light salad.
Love the artwork, so jealous.
In the midst of a jigsaw that is testing my patience, the differential tones shapes and shades between grey and sand over a wide area is mixed with light and shadow, shade and rays on the stone.
It is a picture of an archaeological site in the desert.

@dogslife , I would like to be empathetic towards your loss.
The effect, my mother's last few days were awful for myself and family.
After a stroke, my mum was comatose. And through that week, I was there for the majority of that time, just sitting with her, holding her hand. My responsibility in decision making with my brothers, to let her die.
I fully understand it all.

I will say that the support we received at that time was beyond excellent.

I now look back on that final week as precious, a fond memory of being there when I was needed.
You won't realise similar emotions till later.
You really couldn't do much more than being with your mother. And I'm sure your presence would be appreciated by her.

My best wishes.

And to the rest of you as well. Have a nice weekend.

Cor blimey, barely anything to differentiate each piece....

Must be like a jigsaw of a pic of the ocean from above .... :wideyed:

Never realised the warning "for 6 years and upwards" was actually a reference to the time frame.....:hilarious::hilarious:

Got caught up in family history again but found some interesting folk on my grandmother's side of the family. One branch back to the 1300's in Wales with some ap Owains, and another branch who appear to have been pretty posh (Lord this and Lady that) who were religious non conformists back when that was a very dangerous thing to be. Lady Margaret Oswald was burned at the stake on the orders of Henry VIII as a "Lollard", her husband, Sir Thomas Harding wanted to read scripture in English and was burned at the stake as a result of that heresy and his mother Elizabeth Del Outhe was to have been executed but a spectator got there first and murdered her (Maybe to save her suffering? I like to think so.) They would all have been Roman Catholics, which was very much a no no under the reign of Henry VIII. I don't share their religious affiliation but I do admire their courage and I'm proud of them. Also noted that on the Welsh line there is a family called Tudor. Is that ironic?

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and whatever.
Any fellow posters and painters care two enlighten me, me’s and myself as to what a whatever is?

Family History @Annb the husband of girlfriend number 5 was horrified to find out one of his ancestors was hung drawn and quartered and ashamed, other friends of mine were envious.
I have no desire too look into my family history. My living family cause enough problems, just imagine the chaos the dead ones would cause.

Stay safe all, stay warm and dry trying not 2 get burnt at the stake by the witch finders if you have an ancestor who was a witch.

Just for my interest I have now used all the to’s up, I don’t think I have missed any.

Tried to do the baked beans once, no chance!
As I have .mentioned a 1000 piece star trek jigsaw took me weeks. The back ground of space blackness was tricky to say the least. It's been up mounted on the wall for quite some time now!
The hardest was a 1000 piece of Waterloo station, divided in two from different times. The hundreds of figures and indoor shades, with the roof of many, many shapes. I had to use a magnifying glass.figures so tiny!

I have a very Welsh surname. My dad was born on the borders.
My family name and lineage is North Wales, but mainly Anglesey.
As far back as possible, early 1700's. My ancestors worked on an estate, as a gamekeeper.

I have always had an eye out for Welsh things, some good times staying in various locations.
Been pretty much every where around there!
Even stayed as a youngster in New Brighton. Not the Wirral resort. Some obscure village in N Wales!
Favourite place is Conwy valley. Llandudno.

Have had my info letter of the increase in government pension.
Works out about £15 a week.
£820 ish annually.
So I believe my other pension will be taxed more, as the threshold has been frozen again.
Grrrrrrrr!

Forgot to add wishi washi, has declared his tax.
And his percentage level of taxation is less than an average worker. Who would have thought?
The majority of his income is from the launderette, that is the city!
