What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The actress Lucille Ball during the second world war found while driving to a film set that she kept hearing music coming from her mouth thought she was going mad but when she told someone they explained to her that dental fillings could act as tiny radio receivers and she had just had some dental work done and sure enough when it happened again she realised she was driving past a radio station but she found it was happening at another location on her drive to work but it was not music but intermittent noises she eventually realised that it was morse code and became suspicious reported it to the authorities who discovered a radio transmitter under a house that was being used by a Japanese spy ring so her dental filling helped the war effort mad isn’t it.
Funny stuff, radio waves, they get into all sorts of things. Sometimes you can get what was generically called “Bombay taxis” (radio conversations from the other side of the world) on dodgy frequency harmonics - what fun!

I love these types of stories.
The Americans seem to find them in a lot of war and political circumstances.
there are actually books with them in.
for example.
The biggest battle in the first year of the U.S. civil war, Manassas, was fought mainly on one gentleman's property. He moved.
The surrender of General Lee's Army of Virginia, surrender at Appomattox courthouse was signed in the house of the same gentleman who moved from Manassas.
You couldn't make this stuff up.

Just to let you lot know, that my granddaughter came second in her gymnastics competition.
And that is brilliant!
It was a well attended competition with over twenty pairs taking part.
It was an under ten competition.
I am so proud of her.
Her next competition is in Manchester.

Weather report from the North west!
It is raining, very hard!
It did start with a bit of hail for a few seconds, then drizzle, then heavier.
My garden thermometer has not risen above 9degrees.
Shocking!

My arthritis is painful. Bloody weather.

As we travelled west yesterday there were big drifts of dog daises on grass verges.
Thanks for sharing @lindisfel

I've seldom encountered the name, dog daisy. In some parts of England, they're widely known as ox-eye daisies. (That's one of the drawbacks with vernacular names I suppose; there are regional variations).

Dog daisies seem to like grass verges and, if there are any bees or hoverflies in the vicinity, they'll make a bee-line for their flowers.

Had cramp in my right calf that woke me up about 3am it stirred Mrs L as well.
It took a good five minutes and a lot of leg and foot movement to relax the calf muscle. I did think I had pulled the muscle at first, but not. Mrs L wanted a cuppa, I told her in no certain terms, No!
it didn't matter, the snoring timbre started shortly after.
Should you experience another bout of cramps in your legs @Lamont D, try to resist the urge to point your feet It's a natural reaction, but prolongs the agony. Instead, try grabbing your toes and pull upwards towards your knees.

Meanwhile, you may want to support your feet in bed with a pillow. I find that simple precaution prevents me from flexing my feet in my sleep. Worth a try.

So frustrated with the weather and the consistent barage of garbage from those who have been instrumental in wrecking the country
YouTube's, led by donkeys latest is excellent, fishi history!
That's putting it diplomatically @Lamont D. Some would say the constant repetition of an imagined £2,000 tax increase per family (which the alleged source firmly denies) is a downright lie. I couldn't possibly comment.

Thank you...I need cheery at the moment @dunelm
In need of cheery news too @gennepher

Fox update

I have sometimes heard their high jinks at night, but we'd not spotted the fox cubs in broad daylight for over a month.

On rising, first thing this morning, I was treated to an unimpeded view of our vixen and her 4 offsping basking in the early morning sunshine. The moment Mum settled down, her cubs moved into position to suckle. I had expected them to be fully weaned by now.

They are certainly eating some solid food. One of the youngsters found its way to our bird station and was sniffing around for tiny, windfall morsels on the ground below.

The cubs still look much the same size to me. Although, as an artist, you're more aware than most that size is misleadimg without points of reference. In the words of Father Ted "These [cows] are small, but those are far away".

The cubs' fur coats have certainly changed markedly from dark greyish brown to a pale sandy colour.

Watched that peaceful scene for all of 60 seconds. but it felt as though time had stood still.

That was a beautiful sight @LivingLightly
My foxes and badgers hang around under the bird feeders also....

I don't appear to have any fox cubs, but I realised there were badger cubs on the nighttime videos. Last year Ma and Pa Badgers brought them in my garden when they were still very small. But the badger cubs are much bigger this year and are wandering in by themselves. I need to go through the footage in the next couple of days...there is hours and hours of footage, and I don't have time to go through it all.... I am sure the parent badgers are using my garden as a crèche...

Em, her mum and her 3 year-old niece have all gone down with something which is like covid. Alistair is trying to get hold of some tests today for them. Apparently there is a lot of it going around at the moment at the Nicolson Institute - our secondary school on the Island. None of them have been there though, so it must be around somewhere else as well. We are assuming that they will test positive - if not, it is another virus something like it. This time, they're not throwing it off so easily.
Hello@annb. I started with similar symptoms at the beginning of the week with swollen tonsils etc and gradually felt worse. I tested negative for Covid but felt poorly enough to make an appointment to see a nurse practitioner. She said many of my glands were swollen and my temperature was up. She also checked my chest. She diagnosed a throat and upper respiratory infection and prescribed a whole week's supply of strong antibiotics. Interestingly she said of the 20 patients she had seen that day so far, 16 had presented with the same symptoms. I hope your family members recover soon.

I think dog daises are so called because they bloom when the dog star is visible in the heavens.

Hug for the misery, @JohnEGreen

Can't help sadly , all I can offer is a cheerier view of how summer could look, for now.

Sure it will all look brighter once the rain stops & the sun comes out to play.

Sun is out, but it keeps disappearing each time I go out in the garden.
I sat on the swing for a bit, but I was freezing. Midnight is okay on the swing he has his thick fur coat....
I need a fur coat this weather...
Two little baby sparrows from this year were hopping around my feet... and the male blackbird who feeding his brood in the front garden came to partake of the cat food for his babies.... He was hopping within inches of my feet on his way to the cat bowl. Midnight just looked at them, wasn't bothered, shut his eyes and went back to sleep again...
I came back in and I'm now sitting in bed again to get warm.

Nighttime wildlife video.

Creative - I had this idea for a short series of paintings. The idea I had in my head for this picture was totally different than what I actually did. Consequently, I do not like this picture. I'm not saying it's a bad picture. I just don't like what I did. I am always like this with the first picture of a new series. I painted it last night. It doesn't look so bad this morning.

I will have another go today and see if I can get something what might be in my head. If I could attach a USB cable to my head and download what I see in my head to the tablet/computer, it would be much easier, but you can't do that yet. I've no doubt you would be able to one day....

Time for a cup of tea and maybe a wee little nap... I am ready for one....

Have your best day....
