Why do I want chocolate when I am trying to be good. Trying to get my glucose level down . I feel bad about this .

Why don’t you try a high percentage dark chocolate? I initially wasn’t keen but start at say 70% and gradually move higher. Just one or two squares, allow them to melt on your tongue rather than chewing it. I also order sugar free chocolate from Deliciously Guilt Free. Lots of flavours, not all dark.

Edit to add link.

I get this feeling about some things often flap jacks some time I give in but then see how bad it has made sugar levels. Then feel guilty for several days. I think. was it worth it so hold on to that feeling when I next pass it in shop I think of that guilt and it is easier
In fact now all the Christmas stuff is there it like it is a torture chamber

I used to love chocolate almonds but now that I am reasonaly used to normal blood sugars I find that they have lost much of their attraction because I just feel ill if I eat more than a very few. I have learnt to adore 95% dark chocolate though....

Hi Your post re Chocolate made me think about CHOCOLATE. It was my opinnion that it wasnt the chocolate that you were raving but a sugar fix. I was more obsessed with ice cream. Im glad you have tried very dark choccie. My little treat is to have 1/2 a square of Lindt 85% or 90% after my main meal and after our tea. I mean 1/2 square not bar. And i find 50ml of Morrisons Vanilla tub of cream goes well with no calorie jelly or a portion of frozen fruits /sugar free alpro sugar and / or a lowish sugar yogurt

For me its bread, any bread be even lchf it makes not one bit of difference! I just will not have it in the house. Dark chocolate 95% that's a different story - in moderation otherwise it will spike me :arghh:

I love chocolate too @redheadpen . I really love chocolate, so much so, I refuse to give it up. If I let myself do it, I could eat an entire bar of Cadbury’s milk chocolate. I don’t, but I do allow myself two squares of Cadbury milk chocolate in the morning with a cup of tea. It’s my one treat. I do however, have reasonable control of my blood sugars with meds and exercise. I’m not a fan of dark chocolate as I find it too bitter, but what I do with dark chocolate is I make a chocolate moose with it.

I make my chocolate moose with high % dark chocolate an egg and whipped cream. That often satiates my chocolate craving. I’ll sometimes put a nip of cognac in there too. I guess if you wanted the sweetness you could add some pure stevia , as I find that does not raise my blood sugars.

I just had my result back from blood test. Really disappointed thought it would off gone down. It gone up. Had no sweet or any high sugar. Been on low carb for months now. What is going on. Why diabetes is age related! Plus taking insulin injection.

Always a bit disappointing when you don't get what you think you earned. What were the actual figures?

Going forward, when you say "no sweet or any high sugar" - is it possible that you're not as low carb as you think you are? It might be an idea to think about what you eat over a few days and then really have a look at just how many carbs there really are. Maybe best left until January....

I do the same. 70% affects my blood sugar, but Lindt's 90% doesn't, and I enjoy it but not hugely. Sainsbury's does sugar-free milk and dark chocolate.

My weakness is crisps. There is no good option. Maybe poppadoms in small portions.

Are you still using the Libre sensor?
What are your graphs looking like? Spikes after food or just generally on the higher side?

Ever tried making cheese crisps? Just grate a thin layer of any hard cheese on parchment paper and zap in the microwave for a couple of minutes. They should be as crispy as crisps when cooled (if still chewy they need a bit longer) and they hit that salty and fatty spot for me without the carbs.
Works in the oven as well, they just need a little longer.
