    Dutch 'Artificial pancreas'

I've just watched a Dutch tv show featuring a guy who's built an 'artificial pancreas' and has been using it for a year. It seems they're pretty far in getting the thing approved too, and it has been tried by an endocrinologist who is T1 and other people. As far as I understand it looks like an...

BG targets in pregnancy as low as 3.5 mmol/l

I'm sure I've read various articles about official guidelines (can't remember fo which country but that doesn't really matter) for pregnant women being between 3.5 and ?? mmol/l instead of counting everything below 4.0 as hypo and a reason for treatment. Does anyone have a link, as I can't find...

    smoky cauliflower cheese fritatta :)

My aunt gave me this recipe, and as I was making it I felt I was making a quite boring omelette but it turned out I wasn't. It was very very yummy! Yesterday I had it on it's own for dinner, today I'll have a smaller portion plus Brussels sprouts with cream cheese. Very easy to make too, so...

    Flu jab sore arm

It's almost flu jab time again, and as this forum is full of people who've had them lots of times I thought to ask here. I had my first flu jab last year and it gave me a swollen red hot sore spot on my arm that lasted a week. It was about as big as the palm of my hand, and looked and felt much...

    Transforming a cauliflower to rice

After reading about cauliflower rice for over 2 years on this forum I decided to give it a try too. So what's the easiest way to do it? Below are the kitchen implements I have, which one shall I use? Or do I need something else?

    FreeStyle Libre in Spain

Anyone know if you can buy them without a prescription in Spain, and if so, what they cost? I tried to google it but it didn't work, as the computer knows where I am...

    Frio and seawater

I couldn't find the answer on their site but some of you might know. Next sunday I'll be the 'captain' of a big RIB (inflatable boat with a wooden bottom), transporting 12 people to an oyster bank on the Waddenzee to teach them about the sea, tides and oysters and to collect oysters to take home...

    Injecting through shirt, needle length

First, I know it's not recommended to inject through clothes and I'm definitely not advising people to do so. That said, I know many of us do. I usually have the 5 mm pen needles but I have a sample box of 4 mm needles as well, to see what I like best. No problems injecting through my shirt...

    Xylometazoline spray (congested nose)

GP said to use this to try to get my ears acting normal again. Apparently my eardrums are pulled inwards because of fluid behind the drums. Leaflet says 'be extra careful and contact GP before using when diabetic'. But of course it doesn't say why or what may happen. Does anyone know?

What meter? Where's the useful link?

I'm having my stupid hour and I can't seem to find the link to the useful information about what meter to buy in the UK. And I just promised @Fo I'd find it for her (https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/pre-diabetic-neuropothy.160218/#post-1962215) . Can someone help her out, as I'm about to...

    GAD came back negative

Got my C-peptide result last month, which came back below normal (0.29 nmol/l non fasting with a bg of 6.1) and today my anti-GAD test came back negative. Pretty inconlusive, I'd say, although it increases the chances of having T2. Next week the internist who ordered the tests will call me...

    Tegaderm question

I have my 2 favourite sleep-over dogs sleeping over for a few days. They arrived yesterday and one of them had been castrated 3 days before, so he was wearing one of those ridiculus baby suits. That doesn't work at my place, as my dogs and cats can freely walk in and out of the garden, so he wet...

    New celeriac recipe!

I suddenly craved a celeriac salad with chorizo and sharp blue cheese, so I made it. I don't think it existed until I thought of it, but I might be wrong. Anyway, it was just as good as I imagined it to be, so here you go: Grate celeriac add sliced chorizo add sharp blue cheese add mayonnaise...

    T1(LADA) or T2?

I took the plunge and asked my GP practice nurse for a referral to an internist (we don't do endocrinologists around here) to try to find out whether I have T1 or T2. I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago and started on tablets. Within 2 months from diagnosis I was on MDI and my insulin...

    Post your annoyances to vent!

Not a thread for the big problems that come with having diabetes. They are important but I would like a place to get rid of the small daily frustrations. So I made one :) Especially for all small problems that aren't worth burdening our loved ones with but have an impact all the same. Feel free...

Rate of gastric emptying, gastroparesis and BG, pretty interesting article

I thought I wouldn't be the only one to find this interesting, so here's a link. Can't remember if you need an account to read this, if so, it's easy and free to make one or I can copy paste it here if needed...

    Almond milk

I think it's important to know where our food comes from, so here's a short documentary about almond milk. Very enlightening, I had no idea...

    Diabetic friendly midnight snacks :)

Before diabetes, a typical midnight snack would be half a bag of crisps or a sandwich. The sandwich would still be possible, preferably with only 1 slice of low carb bread, but I'd still have to inject for it which I don't like before bed. The crisps are out of the question because they tend...

Baffled. What does your insulin smell like?

Not to derail another thread, I decided to simply stert a new one. Really, I'm baffled by what people mention their insulin smells like. Hospital, sweet, wd40, phenol (what's that?), pretty nice, not Ritz crackers (no idea how they smell), medicinal, sickly sweet. To me it smells a bit...
