That was my OH George I think re the bra discussion! He’s a star too!Poor fellow even got to hear of the joys of buying bras in Marks and Sparks rather than special mail order sizes.....
Well done @Debandez and all the DCUK team too. Here I am modelling my new small fingerprints of steel t shirt courtesy of DCUK
Loved the whole two days as you say @Rachox so good to talk to so many people who get it. Let’s hope resulting PR and press gets the message out there to all those many many diabetics and pre diabetics who don’t yet know there is a way to take control and not allow it to progress.
@Debandez thanks so much for organising and thanks also to @shelley262 and @Rachox for your roles in getting the event on.
It was a fantastic 2 days. So good to meet so many people from the forum and to have conversations with those who get where you’re coming from. Let’s hope it’s the first of many.
I’m still in Brum and enjoying a pit-stop in my room after a long walk along the canals to Kings Norton this morning followed by a bit of retail therapy. Just summoning up the energy to go back out exploring.
Loving your new avatar @shelley262
Edited to correct typo.
Amazing afternoon and great to put bodies/real names to those forum names and faces. Lovely to catch up with so many virtual friends in real time and space. Thanks to all from DCUK as well but as everyone esle has said Thanks to @Debandez @shelley262 and @Rachox for all your hard work.
Yes wouldn't that be great! Well this one was just setting the foundations down on which we can build to our designIt was great to meet you all. Hopefully it was the first of many more meetings to be arranged. Having arrived all hot and disheveled after having to drive around the center and find parking further away than I had hoped, it was lovely to see you all and be able to sit down and chat to everyone.
After the pub I pottered about and went back to the car with the help of the Yoda voice on the TomTom - that puzzled passers by no end.
On the way back down south I pulled up in a layby just as the sun was approaching the horizon and brought out my flask of Arabica coffee and pot of extra thick double cream to relax for a few minutes and enjoy the view of fields and hedges, then suitably fortified I went on across the New Forest and arrived home to find my husband had been to the fish and chip shop and bought me a large cod, which I peeled of its batter and ate with great enjoyment.
Perhaps in a few years the meetings will be so large it will have to be an outside event - or at least require a tented city, a central marquee for the main speakers, and a catering area with hog roast, fried chicken and beefsteak stalls, lamb roasting, someone cooking eggs, a cheese stall and maybe a bit of salad if there's room. There will naturally be an area serving exquisite coffees and a variety of teas to suit all tastes.
Thanks @Debandez for all the effort. You are an inspiration for the speed with which you have thrown yourself into helping others.
Hopefully this meeting was just a beginning![/QUOTE
Over the 2 days we all learnt so much, and I must say I learned an awful lot from you. You are so knowledgable and even moreso, willing to help others by sharing. We all can't wait to see where your project goes. Everyone there for the event is behind you all the way. We are all in!!! It sounds awesome.
That was a great idea you had to continue in Brum for a couple more days.
Had a great time, but not so sure it was good for my bank balance - 3 new jumpers!
Sounds like I need to stay away from 5 guys not tried them yet.......Hi All,
LAte to the party (as usual). Got back home late yesterday afternoon, and then had a lovely quiet eveing without technology, so only just seen this thread.
It was LOVELY to see you all, and am delighted that I came. Also sorry I missed that amazing meal and dessert.
It was so impressive to see the vast amount of weight you had lost. Incredibly inspiring, and I hope that DCUK can use your wonderful success stories to help other people achieve the same.
And I also want to chime in to thank @Debandez @shelley262 @Rachox and all the team at DCUK HQ for the effort they put in and how successful it was in such a short time. Marvellous.
Hope there will be another close enough for me to attend, cos if so, I'm there!
(and @Goonergal I still don't know if you introducing me to 5 guys naked burgers was a good idea or not. Had three of them in three days, and now I am home, I am missing them already!!!)
Thank you @Debandez and other helpers for making this event happen - I really enjoyed hanging out with like minded people and be able to bang on about lchf eating and diabetes all afternoon
It was fantastic to hear people’s stories in the flesh. And it started to make me feel that disagreeing with the conventional advice that most doctors trot out for newly diagnosed diabetics is actually normal! Great to feel I am not alone in this thinking. Together I am sure we can make a difference and change the script!
@DJC3 what an absolute pleasure to meet you.I’d like to reiterate what others have said and thank you @Debandez for doing such a great job, and in such a short time. Thanks also to @shelley262 and @Rachox who supported you I know. Oh and also to Eric, what a lovely chap - definitely a keeper Deb.
It felt like meeting up with old friends to me, a super weekend. It was so nice to be able to talk about lchf and diabetes without fear of being seen as evangelising - I think family and friends get a bit fed up with me banging on about it sometimes.
TripAdvisor review done, great idea to write to Jamie also @Debandez
@Goonergal you can’t have too many jumpers! I also have a thing for buying them - didn’t use to wear them at all when I was heavier as they made me feel all ‘bunchy’ and uncomfortable. I love them now.
