High blood sugar readings

They might have suitable drinks - you could ask.

Sorry to keep asking questions, but are you saying that you're sick involuntarily when you eat certain foods, and also that you make yourself sick because of bulimia?

Your liver can pump out glucose of it feels your body is 'starving' eg first thing in the morning if a person doesn't eat, their liver may think there's not going to be any food for energy so puts glucose into the blood, which is bad when you're diabetic obviously.

Eating regularly can help stop that.

If you're saying that certain foods make you sick (without you wanting to be sick) then have you seen a gastric specialist to see if there's a problem?

Could you choose from your 'safe' foods for each meal? So still eat only those safe foods, but not eat just one food all day, if that makes sense eg yoghurt for breakfast, egg for lunch, veg for tea, or similar?

Thats what I'm trying to do.the thing is ive made myself sick that much that I now just vomit without trying.my boyfriend who is amazing has decided that after I eat we will walk the dog so I dont have chance to go into the bathroom.its worth a try as I will mot be sick if anyone can see me.i know this is a mental health sort of problem but as I cant get any help ive only got myself to conquer it. AND I WILL (I hope) if anyone knows what the drinks are called can they please let me know.thankyou x x

Please feel free to ask me anything.i will be honest with you,I can promise that x

It sounds like you've been suffering a long time, so it won't be fixed in five minutes, but it sounds to me like you're determined to sort this. That's a massive step and you should be proud :)

I'm off to bed now but I'll be back tomorrow. You can do this - maybe you'll have to take tiny steps and maybe you'll take two steps forward and one backward to start with, but any progress is good.

Take care. X

@Jogreen21 I put a link to B-eat above as they're the first people who came to mind, but I've also found this organisation:

http://www.eatingdisorderssupport.co.uk/help/helpline

I noticed they say you can email if you don't want to speak on the phone.

I also suggest you google to see if there are any support groups local to you.

My advice is to identify the things you want to change and take one thing at a time and try to,change it slowly. Slow changes will be less stressful, and easier to build on, I'd think. I know you have the diabetes to think about too, but when you see the doctor/nurse about the diabetes maybe you could ask for support in controlling your blood sugar in the most appropriate way eg some medication might keep your blood sugar a little lower while you work on your diet and eating issues.

Please don't think you have to eat what others here eat. If you can't stomach bacon and eggs, don't eat it. Choose something you're ok with. If you can get into a routine, then that will help a lot. Have times for meals, make sure you eat something even if it's only a tiny amount, and try to get into the routine. Then you can build on that. Every solid routine and action you put in place should make it easier gradually for you to be more in control of the bulimia.

You've already identified a possible strategy with going for a walk after eating. Little things like that can help - anything to distract you and keep you busy.

If you make a mistake, don't dwell on it and blame yourself. Just move on and be more determined to beat this.

If you use the Search function on this forum, you may find threads from others with similar problems. There's also a section for eating problems here on this forum. Although it's largely aimed at Type 1s, there are people who have problems with binging there. You could also look at the Emotional Health section here.

Ive contacted the website myself and got some good advice.i had to go go my gp again this morning as my results were sky high.hes ringing the hospital to see if he can find me some sort of nutrition drinks for diabetics.even if I need medication to bring down the sugar thats in them.he explained that when I dont eat,my liver produces more glucose for fuel for my body which sends my results far too high.i'm starting to understsnd it more now and ive found that just being diabetic has all it's own problems without an eating disorder thrown in the mix.over the last couple of weeks ive cried so much out if sheer frustration, then I found out that getting upset makes the results high.this forum and people like you have helped me so much so thankyou again for taking the time to read my posts and to reply to them.you've restored my faith in human kind x x x

It's my pleasure :)

I'm very pleased you contacted the website, and that it looks like your GP is being more pushy on your behalf :)

Best wishes to you. X

I do it because I know these foods wont make me sick so I know I can eat them
Since being diagnosed ive tried bacon sausage chicken pears cuppa soup cheese (which I love but can only eat a little) ive been trying to introduce a new food daily but its not really working.i'm desperate.someone suggested trying some sort of drinks I could ask my doctor for but I dont know if I can have them if I'm diabetic x

oh so much you have to deal with, of cause you cant eat food that sends you into anafylaxtic shock... but on the other hand you do need to eat more different things on a daily basis, the foods you can eat are actually good foods , but not when you only eat one of the kinds a day... you need also I think suplementation, but it is difficult to say which you need the most, so I there is any multivitamin you could eat on a daily basis with 2 eggs and some of the vegs that you do eat that would be maybe a little help.

no actually a gigantic help... but the metformin that most type 2 get as the first choice to help lower their blood glucose only helps a little bit, but actually help slowing the overactive liver it seems to, but when not eating one can get too low in blood glucose , and normally then one would not have that prescribed then...
but if your numbers are too high on a daily basis for the whole day, you could ask them to make an exception just to try and only if your nurse sees you every day and measures your blood glucose herself...
could you beg them to try at least by maybe only giving you 500mg and even maybe halfing that tablet into 2 peices so it is shared all over the day...

if you cant take vitamins and vitamin d which you also need to uptake calcium from your foods , then you could use a solarium for a short while and get your skin producing vitamin d... like one time a week for a few month, but then you can only do that when actually eating yoghurt every day, so that the body doesn´t steal more calcium from your bones as it have obviously done till now...
by the way an Expert on eating disorders and pshycotherapy would be a good idea if you would do that but it needs to be one that knows of the disorder...
hope you get better in any ways love and hugs from me

I just got a Nutribullet - they were selling them in Tesco - it basically pulverises anything you put into it. You can make a drink out of just about anything, though the ones they suggest are high carb they can be adjusted, and you could add protein powder into the ingredients - or whatever you can find to give yourself some nutrition.

My doctor mentioned medication but first needs to speak to the dietition at the hospital,he rang me to say he'd left a message as the person wasn't there,so it will now be monday. I'm quite happy and thankful that my doctor has finally taken notice of me and my bulimia and its only a couple of days to wait.ive not eaten all day but I'm pleased to say ive eaten an egg and some veg,I know it would have being better to have eaten earlier but I'm sorry,I just couldn't.ive been for a walk and feel quite pleased with myself as mu food is still in my tummy.how long after eating should I test? X

I've ate one meal a day for prettty much 40 years... I'm
diff to you though.. I wouldn't worry about one meal a day.
Could you have vit d in liquid form? I can't tolerate in tablet form as the aspartame us in some nhs ones and the coat binding of tablet is intolerant.. Hiwever I can take it as a drop a day in my tea. I can also tolerate all tablets in vege shells not solid tablets.
It does sound as if you could do with a multi vitamin of some description.
As I can only eat mush (teaplate) a day or smoothies it is imoortant to get vitamins in some way.
Nutrition drinks can be given via the NHS. Ensure is one of them. They are quite high in carbs but you and your medics need to balance your needs and medicine to cope with the higher carbs in nutrition drinks if it comes to this. My smoothies are always about 27g. I can't recall what the Ensure bottles are. I remember they do them in strawberry and some other flavours.

Its really good that you are open and talking about your struggles. That must be a huge feat accomplished in itself. You can do this.

Please don't beat yourself up for having one meal in evening. Celebrate your achievements... if you are doing this and talking about it as well then that is also a positive.

Your thoughts are also coming over as starting to care for what nourishment you are getting. Being a bulimic - those are hard thoughts to get and work on but those tjoughts are peeking through.....

It's normal to test 2 hours after eating your first bite of whatever you're having. Very well done on getting this far!! Hugs x

Yes I'm diet controlled but how can I do it when I dont have a diet? Now ive been honest with you I will explain my eating habits.i will put a bowl of frozen veg in microwave and eat it. The next day will be the same and I will eat veg everyday for maybe 2 or 3 weeks til I get sick of veg.then I might eat beetroot everyday til I get sick of it and then eat a boiled egg each day, somstimes its yoghurt sometimes its banana sometimes its baked beans. I also have nut allergies anx I'm also allergic to berries, raisins, currants, melon and quite a lot more,if I eat these foods I go into anaphylactic shock and my boyfriend has to inject me with adreniline.its so hard for me.today I tried bacon egg and beans but was sick yet again.my tests today have bedn 17-9, 10-4, 14-4,11-2 ,17-2 and the days not over yet.some days I feel like just giving in as I'm getting nowhere.

if your issue is that you the way you get your nutrition is to eat the same stuff every day for days on end, then how about you try this

Get the biggest pot you can find, buy some meat with fat on it and bones - eg lamb shanks, throw in all the vegetables you can find - spinach, kale, cabbage, mushroom, onion, tomato, cauliflower , green beans, broccoli ( basically if it grown above ground and its green its great.- ( exclude below ground vegetables especially parsnips and potatoes) add in some olive oil and some butter , vinegar , salt and pepper, simmer the mixture for three hours. Put the whole lot in your fridge, if you microwave a portion of that three time a day for three week things then you will be getting pretty much all the nutrients you need, and your compulsive behaviour at doing it won't damage your health further.

If you got used to that then you could simply switch to another type of meat the next time - pork, lamb beef and maybe start mixing it up by adding some spices, each time you would still be eating the same food all the time, except that this time that "same food" would be a nutricious mix of the good stuff instead of something that is not giving your body the nutrient it needs.

I don't have an eating disorder, but I have found doing the above invaluable in both trying to bring down my blood sugars and losing weight because it means I always have a snack handy which is both good for me and tastes really nice that I can simply warm up a spoonful if I feel the need to eat. I make my stew at the weekend, then pretty much eat it all week - I mix it up a bit so sometimes I take half a cup without any of the meat and add water to turn it into a "cup-a soup", sometimes I take it with some meat and add cream to make a very filling stew, sometimes I add a bit of wine, sometimes some different vegetables - eg cauliflower and butter mashed .
so you could see if you can do the same thing and gradually get better at eating a bit more variety.
I hope that helps !

then mayb graduating to eating the stew with some freshly done vegetables - eg sprout on the side.

Try not to eat too close to bedtime. Have time to fast before you sleep, as the metabolism wanes during the sleeping hours. Get into a routine to make it easy to accomplish. But remember to also set a time in the early hours to test BGL's for potential hypos.

I suspected that Leslie. Eating too much before going to bed may increase the blood sugar in the morning. However, eating a little is risky: it may be better to have hyperglycemia than "dead in bed" at night if you have a hypo but unaware of it. I do wish Google Med. would invent a diabetes watch.

oh and if you can only eat once a day, the same thing still applies - I try to do that some days because its actually good for you not to eat as longa yu ea enough when you do !

Also while my numbers are getting better, every single day no matter how good I was, my numbers start rising about 8 in the morning and only come down about 2 in the afternoon whether I do or don't eat - I think that quite normal for someone with severe intolerance.
