How much weight have YOU lost?

Congratulations on the weight loss - no small achievement and long may it continue :)

I'm also a fan of the Fitbit weight graph with the way it gives you a nice trend line that smooths out the ups and downs, and the weekly average numbers it gives you without the hassle of spreadsheets. I find daily numbers next to useless by themselves - 'water weight' causes too much variation from day to day, but weekly averages are a reasonably good measure of progress.

I've kept myself motivated by making a game of trying to make each weekly average lower than the last, a weekly 'challenge'. Each week offers a little tiny victory that way, making the daily weigh-in something other than just depressing drudgery. Long-term goals can be demotivating - they take forever to achieve and progress made seems insignificant - but I do find small, achievable weekly goals help keep me motivated to *not* go out and buy wine and pistachios ;)

I think I might join you guys here, if I may... I've been resisting paying too much attention to weight loss while I got myself settled into low carb (I have relapses but am determined those won't stop me this time). I feel confident with low carb now, and I have enjoyed looking at my fitbit weight history recently to see how it's going.

So while I'm not setting goals, which historically has been disastrous, I am really motivated to track weight loss and talk about it again. I'm still morbidly obese but down 3 stones from my heaviest weight in 2017. It's been up and down, and at the end of last year I was creeping up again to the level where mobility and daily life were badly impacted.

I'm going to count from January this year, and so far have lost 21lbs. The fitbit monitor is great because it records my aria scale weigh-ins every morning, and gives average weight for the week with a graph showing trending over time (week, month, all time). I find the average for the week very helpful as it smooths out the little ups and downs that can demotivate.

@Outlier I noticed sharp hunger pangs in the morning again after a few days of eating too many carbs. It vanishes almost straight away when back on low carb!
Twenty one pounds down this year sounds good to me. Congratulations on that! Are you looking at carbs only?

I hate to keep harping about plateaus, but man are they frustrating. So far, intermittent fasting has worked, but slowly. Then there’s the exercise. I’ll have to find another option to shake things up. Any suggestions?

I had considered getting down to my original, long time normal weight that I had in college, but have decided to aim a little higher. It’s considered a normal weight and below the BMI category of overweight. Though my dietitian says go by how I feel. I feel pretty light. I have a little left on my belly and butt, but not that much, imo. Lol. I can’t cut out any more calories. I consume the bare minimum now. All are nutritious foods, so not much to alter.

I had considered getting down to my original, long time normal weight that I had in college, but have decided to aim a little higher. It’s considered a normal weight and below the BMI category of overweight. Though my dietitian says go by how I feel. I feel pretty light. Thank you! For me it is all about the carbs - I find carbs addictive and I can't help overeating when I include them. I'm working on as low carb as possible while I lose enough weight to be healthier and have a better quality of life. I do have days off the wagon and I just had a week of eating too many carbs - but I have found it fairly easy to get back into it.

Congratulations to you too for getting to such a healthy weight! I don't know enough about type 1 to make suggestions about how to lose the last few pounds though, sorry! My top suggestions are keto or carnivore or some extended fasting but I don't know if that is something you could consider.

Thank you. I am mindful of carbs and I end up low carb, though I don’t want to be. Lol. I need carbs so I can take insulin, which sounds odd, but for me I really do. I do better with healthy whole grains. I realize many T2s feel differently about that. But, that’s ok.

I have so few clothes now! I‘m holding off on getting too many until I reach my goal. But, in the meantime I’m pitiful! I just got new underwear and that’s a relief. Next, new pajamas.
 
After first covid + back in late 2022 (Long Covid since then.) - weight loss went down faster over the time.

26kg in total for weight loss and only had 6 months plateau then weight loss resumed.

I haven't regained back the weight that I had loss from after covid. At least now getting closer to normal BMI.

Diabetes is stable for now while on Ozempic (but lower dose I go down ozempic ie 0.25mg - my glucose will rise up so sticking to 1 mg dose atm.)

Just awaiting for Rhuematologist Specialist appointment as blood test detected positive antibody, esp my immune system is attacking my body.

Hopefully Rhuematologist gonna do digging up to find which autoimmune diseases to be diagnosed, esp need treatments to stop or slow down my immune system attacking. Dealing with this for 2 years now, esp the symptoms worsen over the time.
 
I am 70 and lost about 14 K and my weight is now considered healthy. However there are a few concerns.

1. My skin is loose despite going to the gym and developing good muscles mass. Will my skin tighten up?

2. I continue to lose weight. I am not interested in being thinner.

I certainly changed my lifestyle and eating habits. I think part of the issue is my twice daily glucose testing and trying to keep good glucose levels. Additionally I now take Jardiance along with other drugs . Jardiance acts like a glucose diuretic. It makes me pee frequently
 
I am a little older than you and my skin did tighten up to a point, but as far as I know, we oldies will never be as sleek as the younger ones after a substantial weight loss. However there may be others of similar vintage who have found greater improvements because after all we are all different, so I'm only sharing my own experience.

I have loose skin too. I‘m exploring skin sugery. Have had one consult. Another coming up. Mainly concerned with neck, lower abdomen and breast. Im giving the body another few months to see what settles in. It’s quite expensive, though insurance may cover it in some cases. I doubt it will with mine. Sigh.

I think I’ll maintain well. One pound to my goal. Do you track your calories?
 
In case this happens to anyone else - I went into hospital following a stroke at 53kg -substantial weight loss after diabetes diagnosis and going keto 6 years ago- and after 6 weeks, hospital weighed me at 64kg - what a huge weight gain, wasn't eating the dreadful hospital diet, keto salad brought into me daily, and didn't look any different, but had massive fluid retention. So demoralising. Not taking any exercise while bedridden, but still....got home 3 days ago, weighed in on home scales at 55kg, which is commensurate with fluid retention and immobility. Could have been saved a lot of unhappiness - so don't trust hospital scales if they give a massive discrepancy. Home scales are correctly calibrated.

I agree with you re the calibration of scales, my surgery has a set of scales that weigh me 7lb lighter than my home scales - which didn’t bother me until the last time I got weighed at the surgery in a different room with different scales & they weighed me 6lb heavier than the week before on the other surgery scales, these scales were very near my own numbers.

I commented on this as the only measurement that matters to the nurse is the weight they record on that day. So the record would have shown a 6lb gain since being weighed 5 days earlier.I can’t have put 6Ib on in 5 days when my own scales showed a Ib loss! The nurse took me to the other room & weighed me on the usual scales- showed 7lb lighter. So even the scales in two rooms next door to each other were 7lb difference! The nurse said they are calibrated regularly & I said well somethings wrong somewhere! She said now when I get weighed at the surgery always ask to get weighed in the one in her room.

Go figure! lol
