Pre BG +2

Fluid

Water 2L
Black tea 2
Black coffee 2
Green tea with pineapple and grapefruit
Green tea with blueberry and raspberry
Camomile tea 0
Not sure of how much green tea I have had today, but it's been quit a lot

Exercise

2 hours walking the dogs, broken up into one session of 90 minutes, then half an hour after dinner.

Verdict after day 42

Once again, exercise is the key. I have walked for a good 2 hours today, and my BG's are back to how I like them. Exercise also just makes me feel so much better.

Today has been a great day, out in the fresh air, watching the dogs running all over the park playing. we even walked down to the lake, I have NEVER been able to walk that far, and there was swans and cygnets, it was wonderful. As we walked a bit further along, ducks and ducklings - magic. We had to put the dogs on the lead by the lake as one of my boys decided the babies looked fun, but mommy and daddy swan were getting very ruffled feathers, and as I didn't want them upset we put them on the lead until the swans were out of sight, then let them run again. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant day.

Confessions after week 6

Yep. Friday I made some almond cake and low carb bread. I had to have a taste, so had 1/8 of the cake, and a tiny slither of bread. The family ate the cake, that was a howling success, even though it was low carb. I LOVED the bread, every one else hated it, so it's now in the freezer, away from temptation.

Wow, week 6 is now done. Two weeks to go! Weigh in tomorrow.

As from tomorrow I am cutting down my testing. I will do my FBG and all +2 readings, but am not doing a pre meal reading, as I'm really not sure I need to anymore. So less holes in my poor fingers.

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

Water weight is definitely gone. Down 11.8 pounds so after the 4lbs gain that's a net loss of 7.8lbs. Also an inch gone from my waist which is my fat store, and the hardest part for me to shift the flab.

I have been looking at ideal weight for my height and frame. I am in the medium frame size, but only just. I am about an inch over the limit to be classed as small frame, so am aiming for about 9 stone. I should achieve that by the end of the diet, or very shortly afterwards, if the weight loss stays the same. I would be happy if I could reach 9 stone by the end of July, so no pressure on myself, as I feel that is counter productive.

Because I am an apple shape, I am really unhappy with my stomach. I store all fat there. I have lovely slim arms and legs, bust, bum and hips, but my stomach  All stomach slimming exercises for toning an apple shaped tummy say walking is the way to do it, so I will continue to walk, but the flab shift there is really slow. I am happy though, as an inch has gone, so realise time is my friend here.

looks smashing :D

It's beautiful as you can see. The dogs love it because being as big as it is, people are not crowded together, so they are off lead the whole time we are there, and can just run. I went to the lake for the first time yesterday, and as you can see, it's in a bit of a dip. I did have pain in my legs walking up the hill, but none today. The swans have babies, and there is a picture of the cygnets, but I couldn't get close enough as mommy and daddy swan were getting a bit upset, so I did the best I could. They are the little blobs of grey between the swans on the bank.

I love the park, fresh air, loads of walking space, and very tired dogs when we get home. brilliant!

Verdict after day 43

Feeling really good. I am sure the weight loss, low carbs, no wheat, fresh produce from a greengrocer and cutting out of all wheat products are really doing my body the power of good. During the day I have loads of energy, fantastic hair and skin, loads of stamina, and at night I sleep so well, and wake up really refreshed. Sleep less than I used to, and feel really alive, it's wonderful.

Considering I am 46, my body feels like I am 30 again. My skin and hair also look 30.

One other thing, earlier in my diary, I mentioned vest tops that I bought two sizes too small, and could get into them. Well, they need to be laundered and sent to the charity shop, they are hanging of me. I also need to be measured for bra's (I always get measured) as mine are now useless. No one could possibly call me top heavy any more. :lolno:

and it's so good for your levels :) I MUST get my A** back into gear tomorrow.

I LOVE my exercise TP. I prefer to go out and walk, but the treadmill is a good enough alternative. It just makes me feel so good.

Glad to see you're giving it a real go Difren ... this diet really does seem to have promise

You shouldn't have said that. I am the ND biggest advocate. I urge everyone to give it a go. You loose weight, get your BG under tight control, get fitter, and it's EASY! I could bore you to tears, as I think this is the best thing I have ever done. Try it, then tell me I'm wrong. :lolno:

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

Sorry I misspelled your name ... I find the text a little small

It really would be quite remarkable iif the solution to the diabetes problem is quite so simple ... certainly not what the drug companies would want to hear

It's not a cure, and I wouldn't want anyone thinking it was. It puts your diabetes into remission. However, you must stay on a low carb diet afterwards, or you will undo all the work you have done. My big problem is I am very intolerant of carbs, so have to ultra low carb, under 30g a day, but more like 15-20g a day, or I lose my BG control. My hope is, with all the visceral fat gone, my weight down, and my pancreas having a rest, I will be able to tolerate a slightly higher level post diet. I have 13 days left before I can test it out.

No worries about the name, maybe just calling me Jo or Joanna would be easier :D

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

Our village (hamlet) had its Jubilee celebrations yesterday.I ran as normal in the morning, and then went swimming.Normal breakfast and lunch and then went down to village hall.I sat with everyone while they ate a late lunch while being badgered by a nurse from a neighbouring practice who knows what I have done. She was worried because I wasn't eating! In vain did I protest that I wasn't hungry!

Eventually after a pleasant afternoon I popped into the hall and let my hair down, two sausage rolls, two slices of quiche, two flapjack slices with added ginger,a nice home made pasty.Total calorific intake must have been horrific.I passed on my third bit of exercise in the evening and went to bed late after watching TV.

Woke up this morning with fasting blood level of 5.2,bang on my average.Go figure what this means,I should have been much higher.

Bl**dy hell Frank, that is less than a point higher than my FBG today (4.5) and I'm still on the diet.

This is such brilliant encouragement, not that I need any now with less than two weeks to go, but I can't wait to see how I react. I was very carb intolerant, will I be after the diet? Can't wait to find out.

Well done!

I avoided all things Jubilee yesterday, I don't mind the Queen, can't be doing with the rest of 'em.

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

I am pretty sure that I got away with yesterday's lapse in discipline simply because my insulin sensitivity has in the boy doctors word "normalised".I am feeling quite frustrated that there is not a simple test to determine exactly where I sit in terms of insulin sensitivity because at the moment I feel in limbo, will it last or will I resume the slide back into diabetes? In America you can apparently buy Hb test kits over the counter which would give you an indication of which way you were going.

Having got that of my chest I will resume polishing up my draft of my personal "Grand unified theory of diabetes"

When Stephen (Borofergie) was in the US he bought an HbA1c meter. You can buy them here (Amazon) but I believe the strips are really expensive.

I can't wait to see what has happened to me. I have my HbA1c on June 27 so not long after I finish the diet, so will have a real good idea. I am expecting around 5.5. Fingers crossed.

Green tea with pineapple and grapefruit
Green tea with blueberry and raspberry
Camomile tea 1
Not keeping track of green and camomile tea, just water.

Exercise

None, not going to lie, I've had lazyitis today!

Verdict after day 44

Ive done nothing today, not because of lack of energy, but 'cos I wanted a lazy day! I can feel it as well. I feel tired and lethargic, and am going to have an early(ish) night. Part of me wanted to know what I would feel like with so much energy, and just not using it. Part of me, was purely lazy.

I feel fine though, just the usual effects of not exercising, so it's my own fault. I do find that unlike before, even when I am sitting down doing nothing, I am twitching, or jiggling my legs, always seem to have some part of me moving, it did find that amusing.

Really busy day tomorrow, so by this time I will be exercised out, as I have so much walking to do. I know I will feel loads better.

It's 10:25pm and I have just had my supper shake, dinner filled me so much I couldn't manage my shake until now, and even then I could easily have left it, but do need to think of daily calories, so forced it down. The idea of a third shake is still no easier, so not even going to worry about it any more.

Black tea 3
Black coffee 1
Green tea with pineapple and grapefruit
Green tea with blueberry and raspberry
Camomile tea 0
Not keeping track of green and camomile tea, just water.

Exercise

150 minutes split into two sessions. First session an hour gentle walking, the second session after dinner 90 minutes much more brisk. The figures certainly show it!

Verdict after day 45

I've not been a 'dedicated follower of fashion' for a few years as I was too large. Today (I can't believe I am going to admit to this) at age 46 I swanned around town in a cream Calvin Klein top I have not worn in over a decade, and a pair of skinny jeans. I felt fabulous  I bought some new fashionable tops, jeans, trousers and sandals. My 15 year old was just so proud of me, it made me feel pretty emotional actually.

I have waist long, really thick mahogany red hair, that is going to be dealt with next. I just need a style I like. It's been long for a long, long time, this is going to be a challenge, but I will do it. Short and fashionable - eek

Feeling pretty **** good I have to say!

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

Thanks Catza, it's been a funny old road sometimes, but it's nice to be where I am at. Funny to think only 10 days of the diet left now.
