Good morning friends
I was thinking I wanted a pump and/or a cgm, now I'm not so sure with all the talk of sticking plasters, calibration, xdrip, blutooth, Miao Miao and the likeHi, mate, I'm not a pumper but here's how it works. On mdi, we've got basal and bolus, and the basal is just a bolus insulin which has been chemically tweaked to slow it down so it gets absorbed gradually over a much longer period, about 16 to 24 hrs, instead of the quickish 3 to 5 hrs that bolus does.
With pumps, they just use bolus insulin like Novo or Fiasp, but feed it in very slowly, in small amounts so it ends up having the same overall effect as a basal, to provide a gradual background cover, and then you'll occasionaly tell it to fire in a lot more if you need a bolus for a meal.
You've basically just got bolus insulin in the pump, novo or whatever, but it does the two roles, basal and bolus, slow steady delivery at small amounts as background basal cover, and a quick hit as bolus for meals.
I often can't decide especially as I can't do half a unit.Morning everyone, 6.9 this morning, no DP correct yet so let’s see now . . . 7.2: to DP dose or not to DP dose![]()
Hi @SueJB, did you note how much salt (sodium) was in the soya sauce? The recommended maximum according to the site 'Salt Matters) is 120mg/ml.I was thinking I wanted a pump and/or a cgm, now I'm not so sure with all the talk of sticking plasters, calibration, xdrip, blutooth, Miao Miao and the like
Madam's down again 4.3 but I've got kilocreep. Forgot to say, I tried making the roasted soya sauce soaked sunflower seeds and they worked a treat. Can't remember who suggested them but thanks. Hope they're not responsible for the belly wobble
Think I'm going to change my photo and go anonymous
Ours is not to reason why, Ours is just to be happy and spry!!!Morning everyone,
Blood sugar quite well behaved overnight, had a little rise about 5 am, which I corrected with 1 unit, and it's reasonably happy now
It's been a bit erratic for the last few weeks, but seems to be happier now. Not sure why.................or am I lying to myself, and I do know why?
In Australia we can buy smaller sharps containers from the local chemist and return full ones there for disposal. During our hot summers the smell of a large sharps bin can be a problem over time so the smaller, more quickly filled ones do have a purpose.I guess pain is relative - I have to order mine from my pump manufacturer but it comes from a different place to my pump accessories so I have to make sure I am home when it is delivered a few days after being home to receive the pump accessories.
When it is close to full, I have to order a new one and contact my council who will pick it up the old one on the next but one Wednesday after I have reminded them where I live because they usually forget. I have to remember to put it outside my front door the night before. And some times the council forget to send the confirmation email telling me when it will be collected so I have to chase them.
Whilst it could be a lot slicker, I guess I should just be grateful I get a pump, the accessories and the sharps bin.
Good(ish) morning all
7 on waking (NO alarms! during night. Usual breakfast and bolus....just been alarmed....high 10.8 and rising, jsut checked my Timesulin and confirmed that I DID do my jab with breakfast, so T1D 1 Paul 0 today so far![]()
So reduce basal by 2u last night and woke with an 8.0 this morning so not too bad, will reassess wednesday morning.
busyish weekend, apparently it was the weekend for putting up the Christmas tree, so we followed the herd:

which is extremely rare to do this early, we normally wait until after the wifes birthday!
Very true......it went up to 14.8......BUT back to a reasonable 8.9 atm10.8 isn't great, but it's not a decisive victory for Type 1, you can rerun that later, and win.![]()

@porl69 and @smc4761 are your BGs high because you are going down with something?
I assume you have not pre-empted the type 1 meet up that was discussed yesterday and going down with the same thing
My first Fiasp experiment of the day is complete and I am rating it a success.
My BG dropped to 3.9 during my spin. OK, not perfect but as my partner's BG dropped to 4.2 when he did a spin class, I consider my drop acceptable.
Maybe next time, I'll try to start with a slightly higher BG ... or maybe drop my basal earlier.
