I don’t take a multivitamin but I do take B12 and folic acid because I’m on metformin and that can deplete B12 levels, the folic acid helps with the absorption of B12. I also take vitamin D because I don’t get enough sun at any time of year. I take biotin & collagen but that’s for hair loss & post menopause so maybe not as useful for hubby ;)

Honestly multivitamins are a bit pointless. The levels are so low if you have a deficiency it’ll never correct it. If you have an actual deficiency then you need more than the daily requirements to both meet that and make up for the deficiency. Sort out the ones you actually need.

Is he showing any symptoms that suggest something is missing? Has he had any blood tests to check? Does he eat veg instead? I eat little fruit but get the same vitamins from vegetables without the glucose in fruit.

B12 and vit d are the two most frequently low and unacknowledged ones in the general population that can have a bit effect. Things like magnesium and potassium are easily tested for too. In child bearing women iron/ferritin is frequently low and massively under diagnosed unless actually anemic. Bear in mind. NHS reference ranges that claim normal are designed to avoid life challenging side effects not for best health. They are not the same as optimal levels which usually are at the top of those very wide ranges for most vitamins

If you take D you should take K too. D helps absorb calcium but you need it in the bones and tissues not stuck in the blood. Vit K helps it go where it should. And consider magnesium as that works with them too.

I eat lots & lots of greens like broccoli, beans, kale, asparagus etc, it’s where most of my carbs come from, so hopefully I’m getting enough but I will look into it thanks @HSSS

What about veggies?
You can get the same vitamins from veggies instead of fruit, it's what I count on for vitamin C.
I do take vit D on prescription because a blood test revealed they were ridiculously low. But a multivitamin wouldn't come close to touching my deficiency.

I'm not one to take medication including vitamins unless I know or suspect there is something wrong.

As mentioned, B12 would be one I'd certainly look into.

I have read that age can reduce it & Metformin can contribute.

I'd be in the group suggesting multi vitamins likely don't help much if anything is low.

I wonder if your posting because something has raised some concerns ?

Unsure if his meds would help or hinder, but I did find my B12 wasn't tested on mine before I began asking for it to be added.

No issues getting it done, & glad I did

In the bottom third of the 'Range'.
A regular sublingual tablet of b12 got me from low 200’s up to mid 300’s by next HBA1c blood test.

A wide range of 'symptoms' attributed to other illnesses when it can be b12 deficiencies that are causing them in some cases.

A quick Google would highlight some.

And some more info under my signature if interested.
The film (B movie) was particularly interesting.

I take some vitamins, vitamin C and zinc for immune system, I’ve been taking it for years as I was always getting colds, I rarely get colds now (touch wood!) and when I do they are very mild.
I take a vitamin B complex primarily for B12 as I take Metformin when Victoza isn’t available.
Then lastly vitamin D with calcium, recommended by my GP for my arthritis. My D level was tested recently and is well up in the normal range.
I just take Tesco own make nothing elaborate.
