An American web site THM (Trim Healthy Mamas) are big on sprouted bread. They have a baking mix but regrettably it would cost a fortune to get it imported to the UK. I've been fiddling about with the ingredients I can get here to make a "pretend" THM baking mix for a while now but the sprouted wheat is pretty impossible to get. The last mix I did tasted fine but you still need raising agents to get it to work. You might have more chance in Australia of getting the THM mix if you want to try baking your own.
Brunch was a piece of fresh haddock pan fried in butter. Could have eaten a whole lot more, but that would have been greedy. Anyway, even that little bit cost £4. That's a bit expensive for me for one meal. Still, I enjoyed it. Tea with milk to take Zemtard. Going out this evening so don't dare to take diuretics today.
Lunch - none. Still getting over the cost of the haddock. Tea with milk to take Metformin.
Dinner will be early so that I can go out. Calf's liver and bacon.
I did manage to get some lamb's kidneys at the butcher's yesterday and some black pudding as well as the liver. Also some pork belly and lamb shoulder. Some long, slow cooking coming up. Couldn't get chicken livers or oxtail though. Well, I could have bought a 5 kg block of frozen chicken livers but I decided it might be a mite too much to get through, once defrosted.
Do you have an Iceland near you? Mr C is a picky eater but he says their fish is lovely and its cheaper than supermarkets.
Possibly but it looked too much like hard work when I had a look at it to get the quantities needed.just a thought.... could you sprout your own wheat? I've grown wheat grass before on my kitchen counter by a window. I've got loads of sprouting seeds growing at the moment (new year's resolution) its just like growing mustard and cress at school.
Enjoy dinner and I hope the movie is good. Great news about your BG readings.Today was a nice day so far :
Breakfast : egg , mushrooms <3 , a strip of bacon . Black coffee
Lunch : chicken bbq , 3 spoons of rice , roasted cucumber , pickles
Dinner : off to fill my prescription, then will have sausage and salad at home .
Dessert : sugar free dark chocolate and blueberries.
Happy it’s finally Friday . I had a productive day at work , my BG has been great (hovering around 80-125 or 4.4-6.9 ) before and after meal .
Will wander around down town , window shopping, sniffing candles at my fave shop . Then dinner and movie . Starving , waiting at pharmacy.
Hello all,
@DJC3 -- hope you are feeling a bit better. Best wishes for tomorrow.
@Chook -- Chocolate mousse is quite easy. Separate the yolks of 6 eggs from the egg whites. Beat yolks with half a cup of sweetener (I use erythritol), whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt. Melt 125g of butter on low temperature, add 100g of high cocoa content chocolate (you can also replace the chocolate with cocoa powder instead), let it cool a bit and then carefully mix with egg yolks, once blended, fold the mixture into whipped egg whites while trying to preserve as much volume as possible.
@Winnie-the-Pooh -- Thanks for the yum, yum, yum.
@maglil55 -- the buffalo chicken looks delicious, same goes for the carrot cake, @Rachox.
ok thanks I might have a look for it be interesting how it will affect my BSL as well plus today is my last day of prednisolone steroids so be able to determine how it affects my BSL I miss bread as it was my go to when my UC prevented me from eating certain foods. although I make sometimes paleo/keto bread I really like the taste of sourdough bread. It was actually really good, 1.5 slices was 91 grams. It's a very dense loaf I have to slice it myself. khorasan wheat has a GI of about 40, the sunflower seeds add some buffering fat, it's sprouted so that makes some of the anti-nutrients in the wheat go away mainly the phylates and the tannins. It's a sourdough so that would affect the GI even more and make it lower. I like dense bread, and it was really a very nice lunch especially with the lovely native pepper berry sauerkraut and hummus. Plus the 91g serving had 6.3g fiber and 10g protein just for the bread. Heck if $12 is the cost I have to pay to eat bread, have a nice lunch and enjoy life again then it's a price worth paying.
