An American web site THM (Trim Healthy Mamas) are big on sprouted bread. They have a baking mix but regrettably it would cost a fortune to get it imported to the UK. I've been fiddling about with the ingredients I can get here to make a "pretend" THM baking mix for a while now but the sprouted wheat is pretty impossible to get. The last mix I did tasted fine but you still need raising agents to get it to work. You might have more chance in Australia of getting the THM mix if you want to try baking your own.

just a thought.... could you sprout your own wheat? I've grown wheat grass before on my kitchen counter by a window. I've got loads of sprouting seeds growing at the moment (new year's resolution) its just like growing mustard and cress at school.

@maglil55 - I need to have another look at DD, I've seen a few of their recipes that look nice (particularly the Mexican scrambled eggs). Just glad its not cabbage 24/7 like it used to be!

Beautiful sunny (but chilly) day here for my weekly outing. Lovely brekkie at Toby Carvery followed by a wander round TKMaxx, Morrisons, B&M and Aldi. Mainly buying new beds for dogs and stocking up on Christmas reductions that Mr C knows he will eat. No doubt most of it will find its way to the bottom of a freezer and still be there next December.

So.....
Yesterday Bed: 6.9, this morning FBG 7.6 (a bit disappointed as up on yesterday)

B: A vegetarian Toby Carvery buffet breakfast (I won't go in to details but it definitely wasn't low carb)
Followed by aforesaid shopping
Got home and BG was 9.6 - so only a 2.0 rise for a very carby breakfast
L: Nowt
D: Mr C is cooking one of his multiple dish curry dinners - for me it means aubergine in a tomato based sauce, spicy (but not hot) spinach with paneer, cauliflower in a yoghurt sauce, dry roast celeriac in spices - he's defrosted cauli rice but I think perhaps cauliflower with cauli rice might be a bit much. He's making lamb tikka for himself to go with the other curries.
Drinks: Diet pepsi with meds, diet pepsi at the Toby Carvery (because I don't like their coffee) and the rest of the day will be water. I'm still on dry January!

Brunch was a piece of fresh haddock pan fried in butter. Could have eaten a whole lot more, but that would have been greedy. Anyway, even that little bit cost £4. That's a bit expensive for me for one meal. Still, I enjoyed it. Tea with milk to take Zemtard. Going out this evening so don't dare to take diuretics today.

Lunch - none. Still getting over the cost of the haddock. Tea with milk to take Metformin.

Dinner will be early so that I can go out. Calf's liver and bacon.

I did manage to get some lamb's kidneys at the butcher's yesterday and some black pudding as well as the liver. Also some pork belly and lamb shoulder. Some long, slow cooking coming up. Couldn't get chicken livers or oxtail though. Well, I could have bought a 5 kg block of frozen chicken livers but I decided it might be a mite too much to get through, once defrosted.

Do you have an Iceland near you? Mr C is a picky eater but he says their fish is lovely and its cheaper than supermarkets.

Evening and thank you all for your lovely replies. It wasn’t my GP though @maglil55 it was a sarcoma specialist at the hospital. I nearly didn’t ask her as I felt sure she’d pooh pooh the idea of keto preventing cancer, especially as she’s part of the surgical team and They notoriously think the knife is the only cure worth doing!
Today I woke up hungry as I’d only eaten once since Tues evening.
B: 2 poached eggs on 3 slices smoked cheese and 1/2 avocado. TWAM. Felt nauseous again afterwards so haven’t eaten anything since, just more tea.
A friend said she is going to pop round this evening with champagne to celebrate, bless her but I just want an early night really. I’ve spent all day packing stuff to take back and taking other stuff to the charity shop. We are setting off back to Cornwall first thing and the Estate agt has booked 3 house viewings for the afternoon when we’ve gone so I’d better have a clean round too.
I bought cold stuff from M&S to eat this evening with the champagne that I don’t really fancy ( yep! I must be off colour) cold meats, cheese, mini sausages, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, celery and guacamole. I hope she doesn’t notice I’m not eating or drinking much. Mr C has orders to make up for me in the good&drink dept.

Up until a few weeks ago, there was an Iceland in Stornoway but it was in an impossible position for not-very-mobile folk. And it was a franchise run by some local people. It failed and closed down. The main custom for the supermarkets here are from out of town and use cars to get shopping. There was no car park at the Iceland shop and the footfall was very low. It was pretty well bound to fail. I never got to it due to my very limited mobility. I have a similar problem with other fish shops in Stornoway. There is a market stall in summer, which I can get to, but with weather like it is today, you wouldn't expect an outdoor market to run - and that applies to most of the winter here. The haddock that I had was from the Co-op.

Had my liver and bacon - bacon quite crisp and liver only just done. Great and so far I'm not very hungry.

Lovely day today got lots of work done but, more importantly, also got out for a hike in the sunshine - wonderful forest walk near our house.
Breakfast scrambled egg and smoked salmon on half a toasted chaffle
Lunch coffee from flask on walk
Dinner duck stir fry with Konjac noodles and glass of dry prossecco followed by hm lc raspberry sponge pudding with full fat yoghurt.
Replacement sensor arrived today from Abbott my latest sensor went faulty with average bg readings around 2! It was fine at beginning but then started to nosedive. I do wonder if, in part, it’s because I’m quite low at moment on finger print readings eg this pm finger prick 4.1 and the sensor can be 0.5 to 2 points lower! I’ve heard the sensor is unreliable when you’re at lower range.......

OMAD again today, and still keto! Dinner was a chicken leg with crispy streaky bacon, coleslaw and cucumber slices in apple cyder vinegar and a good quality olive oil, and some spinach leaves. I hardly dare believe I can make it through the weekend on keto, but I'll give it my best shot! It's such a big deal for me to get through a Friday without lapsing.

Edit: dessert is full fat greek yoghurt with mct oil powder and a few raspberries

Oopsie forgot to post yesterday! I spent a large part of the day supporting a friend of mine who has just been diagnosed type 2, in fact she received confirmation of her diagnosis (second HbA1c) over the phone while I was there. She has already started a Keto diet.

Thursday:
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: Keto chilli with Keto jalapeño and cheese bread.
Mid afternoon: a slice of my low carb carrot cake and black coffee.
Dinner to celebrate hubby’s birthday at the local Hungry Horse: bacon, fried egg, sausage, tomato, mushrooms and half a hash brown.

Today:
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late Lunch: Greek yoghurt, coconut chia pudding and macadamia and coconut keto granola.
Dinner: bbq chicken drumsticks, coleslaw, cauliflower and broccoli salad and pork scratchings followed by Oppo vanilla cheesecake with cream and LC chocolate granola.

Possibly but it looked too much like hard work when I had a look at it to get the quantities needed.

Evening all.

Lunch was my normal bacon eggs and grated cheese. Dinner - much later than usual as travelling to Brum. Five Guys bunless cheeseburger with mayonnaise and a few grilled onions, delivered by Deliveroo. Pre-dinner snack was a bag of cheesies and have just eaten a piece of cheese as still peckish.

Bed 5.8 FBG 5.7. @Chook - I found the thread. Can't believe it was 3 years ago. I had to laugh at your comment of joining "round the campfire" (in a reference to Blazing Saddles) due to all our fridges being Green & White! The eggs though! You and the thought of Mr C's face at 6 dozen eggs! I was had enough with 4 dozen. It really us quite a funny thread. @SlimLizzy - I'm enjoying your building stories. I was brought up on the concept with my family of buy in need of work, renovate, sell and move on. Once I was married I only did it 3 times then stayed put. Probably I was fed up with the upheaval. @DJC3 - Hope you had a good celebration today.
B. 2 fried eggs, 1/2 tomato and 2 rashers back bacon. TAG with ADOC.
L. Took the boys swimming so back in routine again.
D. Today's DD dinner oddly goes way back to the 2 week challenge and I'd forgotten how tasty is is. Baked cod loin with a red pepper butter and roasted sprouts/mushrooms. I also gave into a piece of DGF strawberries & cream blondie.

https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/butter-baked-fish-with-brussels-sprouts-and-mushrooms

Weather was better today but the wind is whipping up again. I need to settle down and see what I want to swap on the week 2 menu.
Edit: the DD thread

Today was a nice day so far :

Breakfast : egg , mushrooms <3 , a strip of bacon . Black coffee

Lunch : chicken bbq , 3 spoons of rice , roasted cucumber , pickles

Dinner : off to fill my prescription, then will have sausage and salad at home .
Dessert : sugar free dark chocolate and blueberries.

Happy it’s finally Friday . I had a productive day at work , my BG has been great (hovering around 80-125 or 4.4-6.9 ) before and after meal .

Will wander around down town , window shopping, sniffing candles at my fave shop . Then dinner and movie . Starving , waiting at pharmacy.

Hello all,

@DJC3 -- hope you are feeling a bit better. Best wishes for tomorrow.
@Chook -- Chocolate mousse is quite easy. Separate the yolks of 6 eggs from the egg whites. Beat yolks with half a cup of sweetener (I use erythritol), whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt. Melt 125g of butter on low temperature, add 100g of high cocoa content chocolate (you can also replace the chocolate with cocoa powder instead), let it cool a bit and then carefully mix with egg yolks, once blended, fold the mixture into whipped egg whites while trying to preserve as much volume as possible.
@Winnie-the-Pooh -- Thanks for the yum, yum, yum.
@maglil55 -- the buffalo chicken looks delicious, same goes for the carrot cake, @Rachox.

Omg ! I gonna make your recipe . I cannot cook . But I do anything for chocolate mousse.

Have you seen Swedish chocolate “moose” ? I wanna watch it every time I have chocolate mousse .

It was actually really good, 1.5 slices was 91 grams. It's a very dense loaf I have to slice it myself. khorasan wheat has a GI of about 40, the sunflower seeds add some buffering fat, it's sprouted so that makes some of the anti-nutrients in the wheat go away mainly the phylates and the tannins. It's a sourdough so that would affect the GI even more and make it lower. I like dense bread, and it was really a very nice lunch especially with the lovely native pepper berry sauerkraut and hummus. Plus the 91g serving had 6.3g fiber and 10g protein just for the bread. Heck if $12 is the cost I have to pay to eat bread, have a nice lunch and enjoy life again then it's a price worth paying.
ok thanks I might have a look for it be interesting how it will affect my BSL as well plus today is my last day of prednisolone steroids so be able to determine how it affects my BSL I miss bread as it was my go to when my UC prevented me from eating certain foods. although I make sometimes paleo/keto bread I really like the taste of sourdough bread.
