What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thursday 20 May - bed 6.1 FBG 6.3. You will gather from my last post why I've been AWOL. Today in between school run (grandson not going in after lunch as they are having an "outdoors classroom" day for the entire school. I don't blame him. It's freezing, very windy and rain.) Still had to get lunch for grandson and their dinner for later.
B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with ox tongue and Dairylea.
L. Nothing
D. Steak pie (I did have a small bit pastry), peas and veggie chips. DGF Brookie.

Apart from homeschooling, I also managed to photograph the freezer contents for the insurance and take them to recycling, feed both boys then a peaceful time with them watching the remake of the Witches (which is scarier than the first one).

Godiva is a brand of chocolate...BUT I read the label wrong and this chocolate is by Guylian, still tastes good though!
Is that the one Lidl has in as a special with 5 little bars in the pack? If so I currently have 6 of them!

Friday 21 May - bed 5.9 FBG 7.1 (no idea why). @Annb - your BGs seem to have gone in the opposite direction now? @annabell1 - nice to see you back. Having said that where is everyone? I expected over 100 posts having been AWOL all week.

B. TAG (Engineer back)
L. Nothing - early school pick up for half day then went to visit SIL.
D. Just had some cold meat and salad when I got back from SIL. I've lost my DGF supply as well that was frozen. Seems the sweetener doesn't like thawing and refreezing either. Thankfully I still have to start the insurance claim.

It seems we've come down to the compressor and the gas with the freezer so they've decided taking into account all the new parts already in it, they'll have one last go. Refrigeration specialist coming next Friday to check the compressor and re-gas it. If that fails then it's a write off and they give us 30% towards a new one. This is the most empty my fridge/freezer has ever been!

Hi All
I haven’t posted much lately because I have the hump with BG and what I eat. Its not down to the second jab because it was going on well before. My FBG is the worst whereas I would sometimes be in the “sticky 6s” its now the norm and rarely goes below and. Have had excursions into 7s. I am trying not to get too annoyed with it as its counter productive!
Friday I had lunch inside a pub with a couple of friends for the first time in 18 months. Its a place we always went to and they usually make me an omelette though its not on the menu. This time I just had a starter of smoked salmon & prawn salad which was really nice and felt a bit decadent. In the evening I wrapped some monkfish tail in bacon and baked in the oven, didnt need a sauce just melted butter, brocolli and chips for Mr PM.
Yesterday usual brekkie slice of HiLo toast and tea. Lunch was a small quiche with crusts cut off and mixed salad. Supper was panfried lamb chump chop with mushrooms. I had forgotten that mushrooms upset my tum last time. This time it was worse and I was in and out of the small room since 5am. I decided to have a slice of white Tiger toast a while back and my Bg went up to 9 but is back down in the 6s now.
Supper tonight is due to be Peking duck, pancakes for Mr PM only, a little sauce dribbled over my pile of shredded duck. Not sure if I will have shredded spring onion and cucumber, depends on how I feel at the time.
@maglil55 you have a very annoying fridge freezer insofar as its not responding to treatment. These things would test the patience of a saint. I am glad the little lad is making progress going into school. You are such an amazing grandma.
@Annb hope you get to figure out the whys and wherefores of your unruly BG, not an easy thing by the sound of it.

Saturday bed 8.1!! FBG 7.1 - again no idea why but it drops back to the 5's soon after. My errant freezer has decided to produce ice now but the temperature is still yo-yoing up and down. I'm managing to keep veg in it at the bottom but that's it. Thanks @PenguinMum - in the midst of all that last week I managed to teach eldest grandson all about circles and square roots too. It's way beyond his level but he has gained a fascination for Pi - strange thing to be fascinated by but I'm not about to discourage it. Square roots he just "got" as he spotted it was the opposite of square numbers.
Early rise again today to take boys to jujitsu, DIL to clinic, then shopping.
B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with Dairylea (thank goodness my SLC bread supply survived in the bottom of the freezer).
L. Nothing - out and about shopping. Weather was reasonable for once.
D. Poached salmon, few prawns, 1/2 avocado, tomato, Wensleydale with cranberries, some of the Polish veggie salad and baby beets.

I have a day off on Monday!! Local holiday so no school.

I agree, Maglil is an amazing grandma, doing so much of the work that the school should do for her grandson and giving so much time and energy to him and her family. And the freezer problems on top of that!

Still working on the whys and wherefores of this BG business, but I am more hopeful now than I have been for a long time.

Thats great to hear Ann!

@Annb - your BGs seem to have gone in the opposite direction now?

Yes, my BG readings do seem to have gone into reverse at the moment. It seems to be all down to different timings and to taking a correction dose in the morning when necessary. They are still going low in the afternoon and evening but I think that is because I am carefully edging down the bolus dose before eating and maybe being a bit too careful not to drop too fast. It's the Libre that is giving me the confidence to do this.

Food today: Bacon and egg, as usual (down to 40 u insulin from 54 u a few days ago). BG currently 4.0 on the Libre (4.8 on the finger prick test). Later I will have some lamb chops with cole slaw.

Hello everyone. I’ve had a few days off line due to a shoulder/neck/ hand RSI type annoying pain. I must try to keep posts brief I think.
Today I had brunch of bacon, eggs and mushrooms
Dinner was slow roast shoulder of pork (high heat for the last 45 mins to crisp up the crackling) cauli cheese and buttered cabbage. Red wine with the meal and some cheese and more wine afterwards.

I’ve decided to start the diet doctor 2 week keto challenge. I find I like a set menu plan every now and then. I’m rigorously checking the shopping list after your previous experience with DD meal plan shopping lists and an abundance of cabbages @maglil55 !

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: roast chicken, one small roast potato, carrots, cauliflower and Brussels with gravy made from meat juices thickened with flax, followed by SF orange jelly, cream and LC chocolate and ginger granola.
Mid afternoon: coffee chia pudding and black coffee.
Back for tea at ILs, first time for 14 months: cold meat, cheese and salad buffet followed by one JAFFA CAKE! :wideyed: Checked my blood sugars before and after and pleased to report that my body hasn’t forgotten it can tolerate one Jaffa Cake with a protein and salad first course :)

Too much going on today so I ended up with too little energy to make the planned cole slaw and just chucked some lamb chops into the frying pan. I reduced the amount of Humalog down to 38 u but BG still dropped to 4.0 and after a doze in the chair, I felt hungry so had some very nutty granola with some milk. BG currently 7.0 - that's 2 hours after insulin and 3/4 hour after granola.

Is that the one Lidl has in as a special with 5 little bars in the pack? If so I currently have 6 of them!
Yes. They were on a separate cardboard stand. I cant believe they taste so good, and my meter doesn't budge either!
But there are 4x 25g bars not 5x20g (for anyone counting exact carbs etc). 27g in whole pack

mid morning : ff greek with seeds and blueberries and a lc chocolate cake bite, then a creamy coffee as still hungry.
12:00 some cheese, about 50g until finally satiated
18:00 roast chicken, spring greens, leeks, carrots and swede. (My boys don't even do roasted or Yorkshire for themselves now, just load up on the veg)
Rhubarb crumble and cream. Did use a little sweetener in the rhubarb but the topping was ground almonds, milled seeds, coconut and melted butter

BG was high all night - topped out at 14.9 around 3 am and was 10.9 by 7.30. Still higher than I wanted so took a small correction dose - too small because BG stayed around 10 until I got around to eating - about 12.30. I was going to have a mushroom omelette since I had no bacon left but then realised that the pack of sausages Neil bought for me on Thursday were actually on their use-by date so I had sausages and eggs. Forgot to check on the carb content of the sausages and by the time I had remembered the wrapper was in the bin. Due to the date on them, I just cooked the lot and will use them during the week as cold sausages. I used 45 u of insulin for this meal and BG dropped by 2.30 to 3.9.

I also realised that the piece of lamb shoulder Neil had bought for me to make a north African kind of stew was past its use by date, but it felt and smelled fine so I just dumped the whole piece (as opposed to chopping it into chunks) on top of a load of vegetables with some stock and spices and put it in the oven to slow cook until this evening some time. I was rushing because I had to go out to get the doppler test done.

The overnight high BG was probably due to the bowl of granola I had after my meal yesterday - it was too much for the amount of insulin I had taken, and too late in the day. All part of the learning curve.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and Fibre One caramel protein bar.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and chocolate chia pudding.
Dinner: chicken supreme with broccoli, carrots and mage toute followed by SF strawberry jelly, cream and LC chocolate and raspberry granola.

Been absolutely rushed off my feet at work so neglected to post here, need to get back to it!

Breakfast - 3 eggs with butter and salt mashed in a cup

Lunch - Leftovers from yesterday’s dinner, chicken breast with a drizzle of Tuscan sauce. Probably about 2/3G. 2 Babybel and a sugar free jelly.

Dinner - 4 chicken wings in franks hot sauce plus a low carb wrap pizza, with an unholy amount of cheese, pepperoni and Parma ham. Probably going to finish with a fibre one bar and tea.

2 back to back exercise classes (not my idea its just the way schedules have changed as some return to halls!)
L: 2 soft boiled eggs with English Aspapgus dippers. One lc lemon cake from the batch boy bought me, nothing to write home about wouldn't bother again. My homemade are better! Tablesppon ff greek witha little rhubarb
D: chicken supreme with bubble and squeak. Only 1 large potato between 3 of us but it still sent my bg up to 8 and kept it there for over 2 hours, unless it was the small amount of roasted peppers I put in the supreme. Must test peppers separately during this libre session as I do suspect them

Edited for typos

Planned start of the DD 2 week keto meal plan stalled at starting line as I ended up in hospital Sunday night after blacking out in the bathroom and splitting my head open as I fell. I’ve had lots of tests, scans and stitches and I’m home now looking like Frankenstein. hospital breakfast was toast, cereal or Ready brek! Nothing at all I could eat so just had a cup of tea with milk. I was really hungry too as I hadn’t eaten since lunch Sunday.
hospital lunch: I chose navarin of lamb with red cabbage as it seemed the best option. Whether it was or not my post meal reading was over 9!
Luckily I was allowed home before tea. I have to say I was so impressed with the hospital, everyone was so cheerful and efficient todays task is writing them a letter to say thank you.
I had another seizure in the ambulance on the way there and as that’s now on my record I have to inform DVLA and will probably have to stop driving for a year - this is a real blow living in Cornwall.
It occurred to me that it would be ironic if the diagnosis is epilepsy as keto is meant to ‘cure’ that, not cause it lol
