Just most of Scotland. Not so much now, unless like me, you were brought up with it. I always feel that my mum & Grandma are watching to make sure it's done.I was astonished at my first New Year in Scotland when my MIL insisted on rushing around cleaning, tidying, making sure all washing was done, ironed and put away (she even ironed towels and wash cloths). Best tablecloth on the table and glasses, whiskey, sherry, cake and black bun, all set on the table ready for visitors. I didn't know what was going on, and she thought everyone in the whole of the UK did it!
I just go onto a mega guilt trip on New Year’s Eve.Just most of Scotland. Not so much now, unless like me, you were brought up with it. I always feel that my mum & Grandma are watching to make sure it's done.
Heck. What a nightmare. I hope her insurers are helpful.Black coffee this morning then goat milk kefir and vitamins. Just water for the rest of the morning ( new year resolution is to drink 8 glasses a day. It’ll be hard, I’ve never liked drinking water)
L- leftover slice of brisket with salad. Montezuma’s Absolute black used to scoop up some of the brandy clotted cream.
D- Hake with more fairly dull salad and sauerkraut. I’m too cold for salad but it’s all the veg we have left. Brie and nuts to follow.
@maglil55 thanks for the cake tip. I won’t make it this month but will bear it in mind for a few weeks time. Also thanks for the translation - I’ve often wondered what lang may your lum reek means.
@shelley262 hugs for the flooding, I remember you saying the river has burst its banks before when it’s rained a lot. It’s been raining a lot here too, and so windy. Daughter lost a chunk of her roof in the wind this morning so the rain has poured straight into the house! View attachment 65296
Hope your daughter manages a roof fix quickly - the heavy rain getting in will have done some damage I'm sure. As @AndBreathe says hope her insurers get it sorted and are helpful.Black coffee this morning then goat milk kefir and vitamins. Tom's cousins always used to add "wi' someone else's coal" but I don't know if that's traditional, or just their own addition.Lang may your lum reek.
(Although the literal meaning is "long may your chimney smoke," it is a wish for a long and prosperous life.)
That's perfectly true. The response where we were was "with ither folks' coal." In later years, it always made me think that you would be prosperous in that case!Breakfast: bacon, eggs and a couple of slices of tomato - bacon and tomato done in the little oven, eggs fried.
2nd meal: More of the butter chicken to use up.

Thought I'd add some roasted Brussels sprouts to my 2nd meal so I blanched them and now have them in the oven with some bacon fat (might as well use it up and sprouts with bacon or ham is a well known combination).
Floods rising still here and forecast to peak at a historic high overnight on Thursday. Very sad to see homes flooded again and even the flood works to build flood barriers on the East side are now under water and they are unable to put up temporary barriers because of the permanent barriers work in progress. Unfortunately our historic high flooding peaks seem to be becoming more frequent. Thank heavens dry forecast so hopefully water will peak on Friday and then crossing fingers start to retreat.

Dinner roasted pork with cauliflower cheese and glass of red wine followed by LC crumble and yoghurt.
As regular followers of this thread know I'm very keen on fermented food and have kefir daily so I got excited when I heard that M and S in partnership with Zoe had brought out a new product a gut health shot then I checked the nutrition! It's basically kefir with some fruit puree which makes it higher carb than normal kefir. Presumably fruit added to sweeten it see:
