What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Ouch Shelley262, not on medication so not into pricking myself dread it if that day happens
Hi I’m not on meds either - it’s personal choice many of us regulars on this thread do test and self fund it. It’s def the best way to find out what you can and cannot eat re carbs @nd you can keep an eye on your progress. I find it dosent hurt been doing it for 11 months now and got my hbaca1 down to 30 - no meds for 10 months now ( only ever took Metformin) and I was 97 on diagnosis it’s a really useful essential tool I believe.

Whatever I did today I think I may have broken myself or magically found how to eat and exercise properly Last 2 readings 2 hrs after eating have been 3.9 and 3.8. Just tested keytones which were 3.6. Seems good but I have never been here before. Don't know whether to eat or just toast my good luck - currently drinking cup of tea with skimmed milk just incase

Congratulations you’re really in the zone !

Yes, but how? I stopped taking metformin and added b complex and b12 . If that was the solution all along I won't be happy. I have made a Drs appointment tomorrow as I am following up a lead re my b12 levels. This makes me think I may be on to something. Who knows. So all is ok then @shelley262 no need to break out the Mars bars?

Interesting but keeping your ketones motoring along I think really helps - well it does for me. I take b vitamins and have for a while - prob 10 months - because I eat low carb and used to get them from bread etc plus had heard that Metformin depleted B12. Still need to avoid mars bars they’ll take you out of ketosis !

Blimey! Thats brilliant. Don’t over analyse just enjoy it!!!

i wasn't trying for ketosis really so totally perplexed If its ok to be at these levels I'll go with the flow. The key will be how I perform on exercises over next few days,

I’m slightly confused, my reading 2 hrs after first bite was lower than it was before first bite? Is it more likely that the first test was “off” dodgy test strip maybe, my hands were clean so don’t think i contaminated it. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

@jayney27 I have experienced that before but it is odd and I wondered if I had one something wrong, Just toast your good luck.

Nutritional ketosis happens when your carb consumption is below a certain level. Not everyone I believe needs to go into ketosis to achieve lower bgs but I did. I’ve been in ketosis for about 11 months why not check out diet doctor and read more about it? @Goonergal is also a long term in ketosis eater! Have you tested before?

I have that happen sometimes, particularly in the evening after a very low carb dinner, your omelette dinner was virtually carb free so it quite possible your readings are true.

Mine has been often - usually for me reflects stress or exercise where earlier reading was raised because of stress or exercise and improved as relaxed in evening.

I’ve had occasional readings where they’ve been the same pre and post meal which seems kind of logical if the meal was very low carb but seems bizarre to have it go lower. Be fantastic if that happened all the time, kinda like diabetes in reverse

Exercise is known to reduce insulin resistance (lots of info around if you google).
Maybe you hit your personal formula of exercise, food and nutition?

Yes meal was very low carb as you say @Rachox so that makes it a little easier to understand, I can also see the logic in your explanation @shelley262 but I was defiantly very chilled and relaxed pre meal I had just had an hours reflexology session, maybe that’s the trick, expensive but very enjoyable

Could be. Wasn't exactly a formal HIIT session but reasonableintensity. I have done that routine hundreds of times and been at that level of carb intake before but never without metformin or having b12 supplement. It's all a bit surprising and perplexing.

Thanks @shelley262 I have read the diet doctor info and have the ketosis ranges in my targets but today was a relatively standard food and workout day so just a bolt from the blue.

What a great afternoon that sounds. Hope no. 2 is behaving now.
He behaved at the beach and the beach park. Love that beach park. It's on the sand and as well as the usual slides etc they have a pirate ship and diggers the kids can sit on, spin and dig in the sand.
He was a bit of a pest when I brought them back for dinner but mainly because I'd swapped his car seat back to the harness version. He now understands he won't get the booster seat back unless he learns to behave in the car. On the whole though big improvement on Tuesday.

It's happened to me too and I agree it's usually when I've had a very low carb meal. I used to think it was odd but now I just shrug and accept it.

Your pre-meal reading could also have had a liver dump in the mix, if you had been some time since last eating.
