What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Oddly, I drank some tea today. Had a Starbucks Americano and cream somewhere near Oxford during the ridiculously long journey to Southampton. Decided to lunch at 15.30 with flaxseed flapjack and high fibre chocky bar - that moved things along nicely. Son eventually decided that 22.30 was dinner time so had roast pork. broccoli and tomato. At 23.30 Mrs P and son roaming Southampton looking for an air bed as the one we left here has vanished.

Hi and welcome to this little corner of the forum. We are a friendly and supportive group and I definitely get lots of inspiration. I hope you find some of our menus helpful

Happy Birthday @Rachox !

Another simple day here.

Nothing til evening meal, which was going to be baked salmon, but it didn't defrost in time (BIG chunka salmon!)
So had to scrabble.
Ended up with 3 x bratwurst and 1 small new potato in butter, which was rather disappointing, and really not worth the carbs.

How can I break the news to Mr B that his beloved bratwurst don't rock my world any more? They are just so processed. They don't seem like food any more.

Oh no, perhaps I picked the wrong thread.
I hardly dare mention , I really cannot stand the taste of tea.
@Pipp i just looked at what you ate and i don't see anything wrong with it in fact it's very good and hardly any carbs. If it's weight lose maybe you have reached a plateau though i am by no means an expert.Still working things out myself in fact.

Oh no does that mean only one Lidl roll left for the auction!

LOL. Still 2 - had factored yesterday’s menu in to my count

Edited to add @maglil55 - eeking them out as best I can. Keep looking longingly around the bakery section every time in Lidl hoping that someone has found a batch lurking at the bottom of the store freezer!

Hi @Pipp good to see you here. Can’t see any obvious areas to comment on. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the banter in this thread and pick up some good menu ideas. I’m experimenting this week - following my menu of a couple of weeks ago when I broke through a stall. Can’t quite replicate it exactly due to my schedule, but going as close as I can to see what happens.

I’ve seen your other thread and know you’re dealing with a few things - feel very fortunate that my own situation is relatively uncomplicated.

Lovely to see you here on this thread
Think what you’re eating is fine. Only thing I do differently now I’m maintaining weight and my bgs is eat three small meals as this works best for me but i did use IF often before to lower bg and weight so nothing shouts out.
I’d imagine it’s another factor rather than what you’re eating.
My other factor when my bg rises is stress and I’ve learnt I need to manage stress when it hits it as part of my bg control by using mindfulness - I use Headspace app once a day and then in addition on days when feel stress affecting me.
I’m sure what you are eating will be helping to keep your bgs lower than they could be but the body and this diabetes thing is a complex and individual thing!
Look forward to your future posts

@Pipp Hi I agree with everyone, but wanted to say welcome, your menu looks perfect to me.
@Goonergal have you tried Lidl Polish Cream cheese? Their Polish season is finishing now so it’s reduced ( not that it was expensive anyway) it is a thing of wonder and, like the rolls I shall be sorry to see it disappear

@ianpspurs your day yesterday sounded less than relaxing, hope today is calmer.

Thanks @maglil55 and @DCUKMod for IP cleaning knowhow.
I didnt use it tonight, but I’m regretting putting cauliflower in it yesterday - the lid still has that cruciferous pong even after several soapy sponges.

Some folks put their silicon ring outside in the sunshine if it starts to whiff a bit. If I find there's a lingering aroma, I just throw a cup of water into the inner pot, with a decent squeeze of the cheapest lemon juice (Asda/Lidl or whatever) and give it a couple of minutes on pressure, then forget about it for half an hour or so. That usually freshens things up nicely.

If your pot is accruing cooking stains, then leaving it with some cheapo white vinegar in it for a while makes it sparkle. "A while" is quite indeterminate, as it usually means I forget about it until I'm next in the kitchen and catch a vinegary smell. Sometimes, I'll just give it zero minutes on manual, as that ensures the steam gets to all the little nooks and crannies where the whifs might linger.

It's all trial and error.

Brilliant idea re cleaning with water and lemon juice, also the vinegar tips - I always forget how versatile vinegar is. thanks.
Ive got a lamb stew bubbling away in it at the mo for our lunch, so I’ll see what it’s like after that.

Thanks for the welcome folks. Good to be amongst the cool kids.
I will remember that many of you are on maintenance, rather than weight loss, though will be stealing ideas.
@Goonergal I like the look of that 'lazy' almond butter, cream dessert.
@shelley262 , I am a bit of an aged hippy and use meditation. I can 'zone out' by listening to birdsong, or just watching clouds.

Hi @Pipp i still have weight to loose but my priority is controlling my blood sugars. Despite having quite a few calories most days I still seem to loose at a steady rate. Occasionally I might stay the same weight for a week or 2 but I am aware that actual body size seems to reduce even if no weight loss shows on the scales.

I think what I have perhaps been doing wrong is counting the calories. Trying to stay low carb and low calorie is difficult to balance. I was probably put off initially when I tried the concept of eating until you were satisfied, and had too much cream and butter in bulletproof coffee. Digestion couldn't cope with that, but looking at macros as a percentage instead certainly helps.

As it happens I’m not a million miles from a Lidl right now. Feel a visit coming on, that sounds delicious,

@Brunneria really takes credit for the dessert - she got me started and I just adapted it to make it even quicker and easier.

I am stuck between trying to lose a few more pounds and maintaining - up and down a kilo here or there for months. Like @shelley262 I find it much harder to fast these days but eating one meal a day really helped kickstart weight loss and brought my sugars right down.

Must watch out for that Brunneria. She has some amazing ideas.

And the Keto creme brulee experiment is underway @@DCUKMod.
As I sit doing this they are in the IP with their foil hats on. Regrettably they will have to cool on extraction for a few hours before the comparison can be drawn between inulin and monk fruit. Hubby is already eyeing them and may have to set aside his usual objections to substitutes.
I was going to make just 3 but getting 2 double yolker made it necessary to do the full 6 portions.
