Read an interesting fact today, microwaved vegs with v little water preserves 90% of the vitamin and minerals. Better than steaming or boiling any day.

For breakfast has two scrambled free range chicken eggs, sausage patties, and forgot to take my morning meds at the half way point because distracted by phone conversation. Skipped lunch, met with garage opener dude concerning work still left undone and supervised installations from a distance, took notes. Was it the stress or the late meds or what? BS (both meanings) spiked to 157, so took meds, had some coffee with lactose free milk, and now that it is 2:07 PM, am going to have some of my excellent chicken salad (chicken thighs, shallots, hard boiled egg, dill pickles, red sweet baby peppers, pecans, salt n hot hungarian paprika, mayo from olive oil, chopped local apple inclusive of its skin) that I made yesterday. Gonna have some more coffee. Gonna do that now
Your salad sounds lovely:)

B: Full Greek (see my other posts). Tea.
L: 2 tbsp. hummus mixed with remains of 4-bean salad
D: 3 x roast chicken drumsticks with roasted veg (leek, carrots, cherry toms, onions, garlic, cannellini beans and stuff that I don't know the name of). Small apple.

In my (self-appointed and unpaid) role as Aldi's honorary marketing manager for the North-West, I would like to report that on my way home from work I popped into said supermarket and picked up their latest fresh fish offering - 2 x sea bass fillets for £2.79 per pack. They are fantastic - as good as I've had in restaurants - and all you have to do is shallow fry them in some butter and olive oil for a few minutes. I bought four packets. Get it while you can.

Day 4 of week 1 (of 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet) FBG at 5.7 this morning

Breakfast: The usual Lidl Turkish yoghurt with a teaspoon of gingerbread sugar free syrup

Lunch: 150g Lidl kangaroo steak with 5 spice and braised 5 spiced fennel and red cabbage and some roasted cauliflower

Work meal: Home made Roasted Cherry Tomato and Asparagus Crustless Quiche and a large home made slaw type salad (loads of different veg all coarsely grated or finely chopped) with roasted garlic and yoghurt dressing.

I need help. My work meals have to be reasonably substantial for energy but has to be cold as I haven't got access to the kitchen as it is in use at that time AND it has to look like a proper meal as I have to sit down at the table with the residents to eat it. Also, for work reasons, (important this) it can't look like cheese, eggs or beetroot. And, at the moment, due to BAD they must be under 350 calories / 8g carbs. PLEASE give me suggestions. I like cold crustless eggy things but not every day and I'm running out of inspiration.

(Its the first day back after my holiday and starting BSD so I'm a bit worried about dietary boredom and energy levels.)
How about a couple of stuffed Portobello mushrooms with a mixed salad? Diced courgettes, mushroom stalks, red and yellow peppers, 2 thick rashers of smoked bacon, an egg and a dessert spoonful of Primula cheese. Sprinkle the top with parmesan and bake in the oven at about 180 degrees for 20 minutes. 180 calories / 3g carbs each.

I was thinking of how I could vary my cooked breakfasts and you've just given me an idea - sausage patties! Great!

As for stress, my morning fasting reading was 7 and after taking the dogs out and having to separate two (play)fighting labradors whilst trying to stop them from cracking the glass of the front door and getting my thigh scraped in the process... my pre-breakfast reading was 9. Scary.

People who think they know everything.
About stress... I didn't realise how much it affects BY until last night. Tested at 4.9 just before leaving work at 10pm. Got home and my husband was having chest pains so called 111 and they decided he needed to go to hospital. My BG at 3am was..... 12.4!! Yet I'd had nothing to eat or drink and had just sat on a chair for all that time. I only tested because it seems to be a routine hospital thing that, along with temperature and blood pressure checks, they were doing to everyone so it prompted me to check mine. Big shock! I suppose there's a possibility that it does this every night but I'm usually sleeping peacefully through it?

The poor woman in the bed diagonally opposite got an even bigger shock - hers was found to be 18.7. She was so confused and upset when the medics started asking her loads of questions about her BG - she had no idea that she might have D and was there for something completely unrelated.

BTW they sent my husband home at 5am with painkillers and told him it was stress and to have time off work. He won't believe the stress diagnosis and thinks he's pulled a muscle. Nothing REALLY nasty going on though, thank goodness. So, back to the main topic of this thread:

Day 5 of week one of 800 cal BSD. I haven't yet had any sleep but my BG before breakfast was back down to 5.4.

Breakfast: Lidl Turkish yoghurt with a teaspoon of hazelnut sugar free syrup

Lunch: @GeoffersTaylor 's Broccoli and Stilton soup

Dinner: @GeoffersTaylor 's Spinach bread with some ham and a pretty mixed peppers and fennel marinated salad.

Thanks for the great recipes @GeoffersTaylor
