What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Do you have a micro plane grater or mandolin? If you don't I'd try a cheese grater on it. I just find a micro plane much sharper (finger grating warning assumed), thus making short work of it. A mandolin would too, but they scare me!!

TKMaxx would be my go-to for a decent, but cheap micro plane, if your curious. Their physical shape/size makes them easier to clean than a standard box grater.

We're I dealing with it, I'd likely grate either all of it, or a decent chunk and store the gratings in a clip to container. (Or even freeze it.) I don't want to be grating notionally every day, and I find it more satisfying grating a decent lump of anything (Parmesan excepted).

Thanks. I certainly used to have (but never used) a mandolin (same reason as you). No idea where it is! I’ll be passing TKMaxx later so will look out for a micro plane.

Actually, you could try it with a potato/veg peeler first? That's give you curls, but they'd be thin enough, and you might have one in the drawer already?

If you're going for a microplane, for this purpose I'd g for something quite course.

Yes! I have a microplane grater. Why didn’t I remember it? I actually bought it for chocolate too, so I could grate a single HC button on top of sf jelly& cream and pretend it was a trifle.
Hadn’t thought of looking in TKMaxx for different size microplanes though, I do need a couple of different size ‘grate holes’ but they are so expensive normally.

I never "got" TKMaxx, until our no-horse town got one, and now I love it for kitchen and shoe bargains. I've had a couple of surprise clothing items, but definitely more in the kitchen area.

Of course, the reason I probably "get it" now, is I can pop in and see something, or walk out again, if there's nothing for me, without any pre-built expectations, then disappointment.

BG later yesterday was 4.3 - how that happened I have no idea but anyway this morning FBG 6.5. Had a 3 egg, cheese omelette at about 11 am and that will have to last me all day.

This afternoon, I have to go out to be a substitute host for a prayer gathering in the chapel of our hospital in Stornoway - normal hostess is away visiting her family in England. I actually don't expect much of a turnout - weather is pretty foul and people just getting over Christmas. Or not getting over it; families at home etc. Still, I have to be there just in case. Sunday is the day the patients are brought down from the wards to a minister-led service. This is just for those who are visiting or mobile patients - usually visitors.

Then I have to go to try to get my old car going - it has broken down outside the Royal Mail sorting office - No 2 son was driving it. Charging the battery hasn't helped - alternator needs replacing really but something else has gone wrong, it won't even take a start from another car. No 1 son has a gadget which might make it start. If not, it might have to be towed to a nearby garage, or be scrapped. Pity if it has reached that stage, but it is 16 years old so I can't complain. I was already thinking it might not pass its MOT in January and was prepared to give up on it at that point. Might turn it into a hen shed, or dog kennel. Or a mini greenhouse - there's an idea. At least have to strip any good bits off of it (spare wheel, for example - never used and still a perfect tyre on it). Might sell it on for spares - must be worth about £50 anyway and that would deal with scrapping it, if that's the route to go down.

Who knows, I might feel like eating something else after all this. I'll try not to make it biscuits or suchlike if I do.

Agree about the shoes and kitchenware. I bought some Skechers in there recently - less than 1/2 price. I’ve only ever seen unsuitable ( for me) food in there though. I must look more closely.

I like the thought of your mini greenhouse! What an interesting idea, sorry your old jalopy is showing signs of giving up the ghost though.
Are you still feeling under the weather? A cheese omelette doesn’t seem like much food for the whole day.

Having little feet (size 3), I have two bites of the cherry in there for trainers or casual shoes/boots.

Likewise, I recently bought some Skechers, to replace a pair of much loved Clark's. £13!

I'm pretty certain they were quite so cheap as they're essentially summer shoes and we're in winter. I've never let that mere detail hold me back in my retail enthusiasm. :)

Bed 5.8 FBG 5.4 - still on leftovers yesterday. Son, DIL and the boys required a lift to the cinema as they were taking the boys (including the still demon one) to see the new Jumanji. That gave me the opportunity to nip into M&S and there were more than a few bargains to be had. Unfortunately limited freezer space meant I had to resist. I did pick up a ham for Saturday and a pork rack for Sunday which left me needing very little to buy on Saturday.
@Goonergal - I still have to visit the new HC to try that HC with the whip. You've just reminded me again. @Annb - sorry to see car problems are visiting you especially when the weather is horrid.
B. TAG with ADOC. 1 slice skinny bread toasted with pate.
L. After the jaunt as a taxi to the cinema and dropping Hubby at pub, got shopping and a quick cup of lentil soup before heading back to pick the family up at the cinema. They had decided the PG rating was OK for No 2 apart from him asking very loudly in the cinema what a eunuch is.
D. Leftovers - a salad of prawns, salmon terrine, lettuce, tomato, sesame walnuts, 1/2 avocado and helmans. Didn't finish it though. Later the last scoop of the deconstructed black forest with a small scoop of Grahams goodness raspberry ripple LC ice cream.
@DJC3 - I can't help picturing that you are now observing people looking for skinny lips?

Last of the turkey and ham was had for lunch. I had a little with a spoonful of coleslaw. Need to do a proper cleanout of fridges tomorrow. Too much cheese but I will try freezing some. I think hard cheese should be ok. Too many biscuits but they are long life. A pate that will never be used once No 1 son has gone. No 2 son might relieve me of some leftovers indate when he goes on Monday.
Tonight we are meeting friends at the pub for an early supper. Must say I have lost interest in food now maybe I can get away with a starter or two. Still will be convivial and we will be back early.

@Annb sorry about the car and having it marooned outside the PO doesnt make life easy. nor the fact it is Winter. They are just money suckers. We have MOTs and tyres coming up. I like your recycling ideas for it though!

Evening all.

@DCUKMod I now have a microplane courtesy of TK Maxx. My potato peeler was chucked out a while back (never did use it for anything but potatoes). Will report back on the grater in due course. Inevitably also ended up with an item of cloth8ng from TK Maxx - a tracksuit top. Just as well that the rather nice North Face jacket was too big.

A much needed OMAD day today - much needed due to over consumption of the past few days. Another successful IP slow cook - lamb shoulder. In such a rush to eat it forgot to take pic. Dessert was whipped cream (frozen prior to going away - thanks to whoever posted that tip on here) mixed with a few Hotel Chocolat 70% buttons.

@maglil55 HC definitely worth a visit - that whip is gorgeous.

Just back from my jaunt to town. Luckily for me, I don't use the poor old Kangoo very much these days - Neil has a Renault Scenic which is much easier to drive so, when I go anywhere by myself, I borrow that. No 2 son has been using the Kangoo to get to work for the last few months, so it will affect him. It will only seriously affect me if I have a garage bill for it. Neil tried his gadget and, although it did get the starter motor to make an effort, the engine wouldn't turn over. Can't just be the battery and must be something more than the alternator. Much speculation on the way home but no garages open until Monday, then we'll see. Maybe a kennel for Em's huge dog or a greenhouse for me. Could still do that even if we sold off the still useful bits.

Absolutely nobody turned up at the prayer meeting so I had a quiet 3/4 hour going through the programme by myself and decided to give up at 3.45 and head out for the entrance where Neil was waiting for me. Nobody there to help me so that did mean getting myself back to the entrance, of course. Half a mile into the journey back (it seemed like it anyway) I had to give up trying to walk, supported by the wheelchair and just got into the chair and propelled it with my arms. Didn't know my arms would tire so quickly. Completed the rest of the 2 mile hike (well probably about 3-400 yards) in the end though. Getting very weak in my old age.

Got home and grabbed the jar of cold, black coffee I'd left in the fridge and (bad, bad, bad) a piece of the shortbread I'd made for Wednesday! Only one piece though and not a very big piece. No idea of the calories or carbs (butter, flour, sugar, tut tut). Not very hungry after that so probably nothing else, other than tea, tonight. As I see it, an omelette with 3 eggs and some cheese is, about, 1 1/2 average meals. It doesn't sound much, but it was quite filling.

Evening all. A lovely peaceful day for me: A long dog walk and pottering in the kitchen.
B/L: 1 rasher streaky and a sort of crumpet/ pancake/ chaffle posted by someone this morning. It was a good combo. CWC
D: Fish pie with boiled broccoli, to try to save washing up I tried to use just 1 dish, with MrC’s mashed potato on one half and my cauli mash on the other. It was a silly idea - as soon as I’d scooped a spoonful out, the soft layer under the crispy top all slid together so it was v hard to see which was spud and which cauli. Not looking forward to post prandial reading ( very nice though) followed by DGF double choc brownie& cream.
@maglil55 the eunuch comment was another cracker! And yes, not only am I inspecting people’s faces for skinny lips, I am also biting mine gently to make them seem plumper!!!
@Annb what a shame nobody turned up, what a lot of effort for you. Shortbread was well deserved under the circumstances I’d say.
@Goonergal -tracksuit top aka jumper?? I meant to go to M&S today but couldn’t face shopping.
@PenguinMum I always crave simple boiled broccoli when I’ve eaten a lot of rich or unaccustomed food, no idea why. Hope your evening at the pub is good and you find a starter or 2 which suits you.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: cocktail sausages, Babybels spread with paté, leafy salad, cherry tomatoes, pork scratchings and coleslaw followed by Oppo lemon cheesecake with cream and LC chocolate granola.
Mid afternoon: birthday cake phd bar with black coffee.
Dinner: smoked salmon spread with garlic and herb cream cheese, cauliflower and broccoli salad, cheesies and coleslaw followed by LC christmas pud with cream.
