I think gloves will be mandatory with that, although no gloves will protect from a chopping action. [ shudder ]
These chain mail gloves will stop you cutting your fingers, but they will not stop you getting severely bruised by a chopper.

I acquired a chain mail glove with just two finger and thumb nearly fifty years ago when I first came to Australia, I still have it out at the block.

football, both the game and the culture.
13-01-2020 contd

Dinner. Bacon, leeks , red peppers and konjac rice. First time we tried this. It's ok. That's about all.

More wine than is reasonable, and a lot of cheese.

14-01-2020

Really hungry morning but had to wait for BG to go down before eating. Lemon tea.

Breakfast CWC, nut granola; this time not entirely carb free, included a small amount of oats. Portion should work out about 6-7g carbs, if you add small amount of milk, which is all it needs as not absorbent. Two potato rösti and a generous helping of confit chicken livers.

Lunch home made French onion soup, one slice pain Kapnor bread and some cheese.tea.

Afternoon. Was trying to make crumble, but the mix got too sticky, so converted it to biscuits; first two were horribly dry. Added two eggs and some more sweetener to the mix, baked a couple more. Better but still not good. Mix is now in the fridge, awaiting further inspiration. Ofc I had to taste test them . Very filling. Must be all the butter.

Dinner. Pork casserole with leeks, cheese after. Again very late. MrSlim worked until nearly 8pm getting that lintel cemented into place.

Very relieved that job is safely over. Well almost, still some finishing off. But the difficult and dangerous part is done.

Breakfast coffee

Very excited as delivery finally arrived from Low carb and Keto bakery so ate.... chocolate tiffin! Really good. Tested, no spike! Went up 0.6. No horrible sweetener taste. It's not cheap but I will buy again when there's an offer on as you can freeze the things.
Have to go away on a residential with the kids from school in a month or two so taking rolls will be amazing for the kitchen to do lunches or breakfasts so I'm not really awkward!

Lunch
Last bit of pork in cream sauce

Dinner
A backwards dinner...
Scene from my delivery, with smidge of elderberry conserve and clotted cream!
Stir fry veg with veggie kebab thing.

All bs much more stable today. Thankfully!

Today I woke up feeling very sick . Slept one more hour appreciating how comfy is my bed , and then went to work . I packed a low carb almond flour pumpkin muffin to have with coffee at work, in case they are out of breakfast .

Breakfast : had a very small quiche slice at work , with “half” of my muffin . Wanted to have the other half too but I was a good girl.

Lunch : had a tiny tiny piece of chicken plus one spoon of beef . Plus some green leaves . I was starving but hated the chicken and the beef tasted horrible . So practically I went hungry .

Snack : had a hot chocolate with soy milk. Sent BG from 95 to 125 that is nearly 1.5 point in U.K. metric.

Dinner : will have my chili that I made last night. It has no beans . Currently BG is 91 or equivalently 5.1 . Will wait till it drops a bit more . I have to compensate for that yummy hot chocolate .

I’m just under the weather . I hate diabetes. I will have dinner tomorrow with my friends and they have to change locations for me. It’s very kind of them but I feel guilty . They are Italians and French . They do like tasty food and I’m depriving them of that

Sometimes the soy milk is sweetened and the hot chocolate has added sugar. One can made a good substitute at home with unsweetned soy milk and cocoa powder that has no added stuff. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

I think that was exactly the point I was making. The thought of feeling the chop makes me shudder.

Helpful from those nasty nicks a blade, or particularly the circular blade can make, without noticing, until the claret spills.

Winnie - I have never, ever asked anyone to change location for me. I have always found food to eat on a menu, even if it means my choices look a,bit odd to others.

We're currently in SE Asia (as we were for a couple of months last year). During our time here, we eat breakfast at home, tend to skip lunch, then eat out every night. I have never gone hungry and had mum best ever HbA1c, ever.

Sometimes, I'll sometimes have 2 starters, instead of a starter and main, but I have never gone hungry. For me, it's about making th. best choices from what's available.

Sometimes it's worth seeing if menus are available online to start the deliberations there.

Glad you didn't spike after eating porridge, kind of gives me hope that it doesn't happen to me. I was eating porridge for breakfast during my lowest A1C, but have no idea how i immediately react to it. I really like porridge, both sweet with berries, and savoury with curry powder, hot sauce, crispy tofu and grated zucchini.

Today
15/01/2020
Breakfast: 45g rolled oats, 173g non fat greek chobani yoghurt, 17g of protein for this serve, 20g protein peanut butter, 10g raspberries. One white coffee with 20ml whole milk, one black coffee.

Lunch: Sprouted bread 65g, 137g tomato, 36g hummus, 50g sauerkraut (last of the good pepper berry one), 40g 50% reduced fat cheese. Hot sauce dijon mustard

Dinner (planned): 150g cauliflower, two florets of broccoli I still have left in crisper, 50g red onion, 1.5 servings of lentils with curry powder and hot sauce. 2 XL eggs.

Today was a good day, best day of the year so far. Builders came to start remediateng the mould issue that has plagued my unit for about 5 years. It's summer here at the moment, so perfect time for them to be working, only annoying thing is that the toilet is situated in where they are working, but they were kind and nice and let me pee from my 6 or so morning coffees, and that's normal for me. Registered for the state diabetes orginisation, received my membership card today, registered for the national diabetes scheme. The nice people at the state diabetes office called me after i shot them an e-mail asking about the discounted blood glucose monitor. I will be picking up a blood glucose monitor, test strips and lancets tomorrow after my podiatrist appointment and they will show me how to use it and everything. I am ready to get a handle on this thing.

Yes , I never ask either but they insist very much. My friends are so sweet
Problem is we used to go out every now and then , to a fine restaurant and order lots and lots of things and share. Now sharing is hard unless there are lots of diabetic friendly options . And the fun is gone

I find going out in a large group, doing the all-in-the-middle sharing thing fine. I just leave some of the options alone.

I’m very glad u can find cuisines that you like and have a sizable diabetic friendly menu to share.

But what you share in an Italian restaurant famous for its pasta and pizza ?
Or if you go to a French restaurant where you pay over a 100$ for a small meal ( and there is only a few selections to begin with , let alone low carb ones ), would you ruin it without a nice matching French dessert ?

It’s not the same . You know what I mean ? The whole experience is changed.

In an Italian place, there are usually meat based dishes, or antipasto, which are likely to be meats, olives and the like.

In a French restaurant again, there are usually meat based options, and quite often decent lamb. After my main, if i wanted anything else, I'd do the cheese board.

Its different to pre-diagnosis, but I have a new normal.

I'm not an evangelist, and nor do I strive to be Keto or carnivore. I just swerve the big carbs and try to choose best I can.

When diagnosed, my approach was eating to my meter. If I have no big spikes, it's fine, if not, then I would have to eat less of the offending food, or avoid it.

In my world, these days, low carb is much easier than the gluten-free part of my lifestyle, but that gets easier too. We all need to find our own way, and it's early days still for you.

Didn't have the kidneys last night - I'd left them in the fridge too long and they had gone a bit off. So I had about 100g of Ardennes pate (from Co-op). That amounted to 4.5 g carb so with the black pudding in the morning, total carbs would be about 10 or 12. Probably a bit higher than I would prefer. Whole intestinal tract feeling sore today so I think I'll have to be careful about food. I had already realised that eating all animal products was having an adverse effect on my digestion but thought I might get used to it. Might have to rethink.

I was looking for my heavy chopper this morning - just because I had mentioned it - and it isn't where I thought it was. That's concerning. Must have a hunt around, but I don't remember moving it. Not too unusual that; my memory is getting very bad.

Just had a call from my cleaning lady - she's not well today but will come tomorrow so I can take my time and make something eggy for brunch.

Dinner - I am thinking chicken, maybe marinated in yoghurt. That should be allright for my stomach/gut.

Eating strict keto did a umber on my gut, it physically alters the miccrobiome of the gut. So yeah if you are still going low carb, yoghurt with active cultures is good, actual real fermented saurkraut and real fermented pickles (dill pickles), also maybe a pro-biotic supplement from a reputable pharmacy, I picked one up in the refrigerated section. Also anything with fibre is good, so cabbage, brusell sprouts, raw carrot.

Thanks Quinn, I have been trying different ways of eating over the last 2 years. Trying only to eat animal products atm but I may have to rethink it. Seems to be making things worse right now. It is only a week though. Haven't yet weighed myself so don't know the effect on my weight, but BG seems to be permanently high - at least, it hasn't gone down; it was already high, that's why I was trying something different. One thing I do know is that any noticeable carbs make BG spike something awful.

Hello everyone - what a beautiful sunny day!!

@Annb I did experiment with carnivore (and, over the years I've tried a 5 day water only fast, intermittent fasting, the 5-2 diet, Newcastle Diet - both with and without diet drinks - and Diet Doctor and just about anything else I could think of) but there was always a reason they weren't for me. I missed my veg too much and never felt quite right in the digestive system. I was a veggie about 30 years ago for a few years and never felt better so I've reverted to that. I do eat eggs and cheese but don't eat cream and milk because I don't like them and they certainly don't like me. On occasion I eat full fat Greek Yoghurt but not often. What I'm trying to get at is that there is two parts to this - first is life is for living so you need to eat what you enjoy and what suits you and second is working out which of the foods you really enjoy helps with your BGs. Its a balancing game. Life is too short to eat stuff you either don't enjoy or doesn't agree with you (but it really helps if you are happy with experimenting). Oh.... forgot the egg fast! https://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/egg-fast-diet-menu-plan-low-carb-keto/ - this one is best if you live on your own! ;):shifty:

So, today, Wednesday 15th January

Last night's bed time test was 7.9 (after having been 4.9 before dinner yesterday - so 14g of carbs increased my BG by 3.0 and it stayed up there until I went to bed).
Today's FBG was 7.5

B: Scrambled eggs with cheese
Pre-lunch BG was 5.7
L: Nice 40g piece of Dolce Gorgonzola
D: Will be roasted curry spiced butternut squash and celeriac with tofu and wilted spinach (will be same again tomorrow)

Drinks: usual..... 2 x huge mugs of black decaff coffee with breakfast and water for the rest of the day

Just had a quick look at that site. Interesting. I also just weighed myself and I have gained 8 lb this week! So eating all this meat isn't really working. I'd better change course before I put back on the 14lb I have lost over the last year. I was vegetarian for a while in the early years of my marriage because my husband was vegetarian - on that diet we were eating too many carbs (I now realise) and I put on a lot of weight. I think I was eating too many calories in the last week even though I felt hungry most of the time. So, I think I will bring the veggies back into my diet and reduce the meat etc. That should reduce the calories and I can get back to the IF properly. It should also improve the sore innards.

Just had 2 eggs scrambled with some butter and taken a chicken leg out of the freezer for later today and will get the cabbage out that I put into the freezer a couple of days ago. That will now be today's food.
