What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Today :

breakfast egg and ham

Lunch : a string cheese , an orange

Dinner : a good amount of bbq with rice

Dessert : none ( since had rice )

I chanced my Dexcom G6 sensor yesterday evening and it has been faulty . It showed very low BG last night (35 = 2) so it made me to treat it too much and i only realized it was faulty after I kept treating it with no success ( stayed 40= 2.2 for hours). So I ate lots of sugar for no reason.

They are sending me a new one .

Each sensor is valid only for 10 days and costs 150$ . So a pack of 3 is 450$ ( supply for a month) , let alone you need a new transmitter every 3 months .

But it works very well . It has changed my life for better . Hopefully they make it cheaper and medical insurance will keep paying for it. They have a good customer service but I wish they could fix it remotely ! They can only send a replacement.

Edit : BG is going to roof due to rice. Let’s see ...

Edit 2 : BG went up to 156 = 8.8 then 2 hours later down to 115 = 6.3 .
It is after 10 full spoons of rice. What do you think ?

The spike from rice is too large for my liking, maybe substitute lentils of any kind, far lower GI, and tolerated better by some people. Sorry about faulty meter glad you can get it replaced though. Also try an apple instead of an orange, oranges have a high level of glucose, the more sour the apple, the better effect but any apple, a small one would you would be better then an orange. But that's just my opinion again.

To be honest, as you have no idea what your actually reading wa s before eating your rice, it I impossible to tell how you handled it. Additionally, rice is well known for multiple rises, especially I find eaten with fattier food, so I'd be interested to know what your profile was like over say, 5 or 6 hours, but again, without knowing the beforehand number, it's not really easy to even speculate.

Of course, all of that means you need to try it all again

My BG before rice was 85 = 4.7 . I have a GCM. So I always know.

Apologies, I had read it as. Being broken before, hence eating to raise your sugars.

In the absence of any confirmation of any other rises, after the 2 hour point, your rise of under 2, so it's really up to you how you view the experience.

I've always had an OK experience with rice; especially as Paella or the like, but I just don't bother these days. It makes life simpler, to me, just to have given up the big carbs. Right now, I am in the land of lots of rice, rice, egg and wheat noodles, but I just stick with the really tasty stuff. Nobody's bats an eyelid, but this is where I arrived at, how you choose to move ahead is entirely your own choice.

Today 28/01/2020
Breakfast: 50g rolled oats, 11g peanut butter, 170g yoghurt. 2 coffees white weak 20ml milk in each
Lunch: weird vegan soy free 7.9g carb protein bar. It was good but not great, I was at a GP appointment
Dinner: Two white corn tortillas, 70g mushed up chickpeas from a can. 12g carbs, two laughing cow light cheese wedge, 2 XL eggs, one XL egg white.

Have an ultrasound tomorrow, painters coming back Thursday morning from 7.30. Hate it when my morning routine gets messed up.

Love montezumas, but finding the nutrition panel on online supermarkets is impossible. Most of my shopping is done on line for various reasons, and none of them seem to display it. I've even been on the Montezuma site!
Hi ifyou stick with the 100% absolut black either on its own or with orange oil and cocoa nibs or the almond absolut black and they are all 8g per 100g. But Im aware they are not for everyone!

Beautiful sunny but cold day here - just back from the DN for my annual review (and hypertension review) - it seems to me that you can't win no matter what you do!

HbA1c - 35
Cholesterol - 5.3
BP 126/80

She wants me on statins (my reply was 'not a chance') and we went over and over what I eat as she's worried that I will hypo at this level. :banghead: Turns out I am now the ONLY diabetic at that (big) surgery who low carbs - she asked me what I thought that might be - so I said probably because of the lack of support by doctors and staff. (By this time I was getting a bit wound up.)

Oh, and I've shrunk half an inch since last year. Seriously, she asked me what I thought about that - I said I thought that either her or the person who measured me last year probably made a mistake. We sent through what I eat regularly and she virtually called me a liar on the Aldi black bean spaghetti stuff (said there is NO pasta/spaghetti product that low) so I've just emptied a packet of it and asked Mr C to drop the empty packet in to the surgery on his way to work for her attention!

Sorry to rant.... feel a bit better now....

So, getting back on topic

Bed time yesterday test: 5.4
FBG today: 6.1
Breakfast: usual 80g berries, 100g Alpro soya coconut yoghurt (unsweetened), 20g crushed nuts and seeds sprinkled on top
2 hours later: 6.1

Lunch: not sure.... totally not hungry.... if anything will be green gloop

Dinner: will be a strange recipe to do with cannellini beans, a bit of chopped red onion, kale, celery, garlic, tumeric, smoked paprika and (should have been) cooked buckwheat all mixed together then slightly squidged with two fried eggs on the top. Really odd combination but I like all the individual components. I won't be having the buckwheat in it as its a bit too carby for me.

Drinks: Black decaff coffee and lots of water.

Good grief what is wrong with her. That is an excellent set of results and at the very least she should be pleased and praising you. I wonder how many diabetics under her care get an A1c of 35. Your body, your way! Please Accept hearty congrats and well done from me.

While I’m here
Breakfast was usual slice LivLife toast, butter, tea x2.
Lunch was meant to be h/m soup but this mornings errands took longer than planned so that will be tomo. Had mixed salad with ham, small avo and mayo. I only buy avos for my son’s visits and this one needed using up but while I try so hard to like them I just can’t. I have defrosted h/m chicken curry for supper but might have another omelette, not sure yet.

Iceland is still without cauli rice and lady said she doesnt think they will stock it again despite being a good seller. Its space in the freezer is taken with a new bag of quinoa and bits. This is bad news for me. Will have to check out Tesvo and Asda neither of which are near me

Fabulous A1c so testament to your methods and hard work. Another one who magically shrinks between reviews - at least yours was only 1/2 inch. Feel like the naughty boy in the corner with the dunces A1c but so pleased for you.

You know i don't deserve it - my BGs were awful a few weeks ago. I'm just lucky that my blood does whatever it does quicker than normal and yours does it slower than normal.

Weird about the shrinking though!.

Thank you very much. x I've calmed down now. I think they think they have to find something to moan about to justify their existence.

Bulletproof tea (no cream); Waitrose latte - added extra hot water; 20 gms biltong; Rotisserie air fried pork belly with roast kale and broccoli. Crackling and meat as expected - liked the biltong. Meat and gadget perform as expected. Gravy and apple sauce would have improved things.

@Chook wow well done you on your results - what a relief for you - but can’t believe she wants you on statins on your number! They’ve been trying to push statins on me for years - even before diabetes diagnosis, and my one off score of 13 a few years ago didn’t help. This time it was 7.7 but it’s heading down slowly and my ratio is ‘ideal’ according to the calculators I’ve done courtesy of Dave Feldman’s www.cholesterolcode.com. My HDL is 3.3 and trigs 0.9. Have you run your figures through? I find it reassuring. This time round they haven’t even rung me about it so they may have got the message - note on my notes too that my ‘target figure that they’ve set is 6.5 which is about where I’ve been most of my life as is my mum who is now 89 and in pretty good nick without any ‘help’ of statins. It’s a personal decision though based on lots of research. We must all decide what works for us without any ‘bullying’ and it sounds like any other low carber at your surgery soon gets ‘put right!’
Back to topic but hug for your experience but congratulations for your excellent hbaca1
Breakfast boiled egg and half a toasted buttered chaffle
Lunch tin of sardines in olive oil and a few walnuts followed by some 100% montezumas choc with orange oil
Dinner pork saltimboca with halloumi fries, hm coleslaw and avocado salad. Pudding last portion of dd lc raspberry and chocolate swirl brownie with yoghurt.
@PenguinMum dont know if you ever use Ocado but if so they do cauliflower rice at the moment - good luck in your search. I mainly do my own freezing it in bulk but good to have some of the instant stuff too in the freezer.

Breakfast at 9.30 am - 2 slices of butternut squash fried in butter with 2 fried eggs in the centre.
Lunch at 1 pm - a small bowl of butternut squash crisps with a little Parmesan tossed through them. Made from 2/3 of the small squash that the breakfast was cut from - they didn't all make it into the bowl.
"Freezer Surprise" - a pack that had lost its label. Could have been beef, pork, lamb or chicken with veg. It was veg with veg. Definite cauliflower flavour and some well mashed up unidentifiable veg. Definitely some more butternut squash in it.
Not sure what effect today will have on tomorrow.

Thanks @shelley262 for the link to Ocado which I dont use and tbh since Mr PM doesnt join in and I am the only interested in easy portions. @Annb glad you are still posting, hope the butternut in various guises agrees with you on all levels. I love butternut squash soup with ginger but it can be a bit carby but you know sometimes you have to balance taste, goodness and of course BG. Keep going Ann.

Breakfast: Usual three egg cheese and mushroom omelette, bacon, tomatoes, spudlite.
Lunch: Toasted cheese and onion sandwiches.
Dinner: Goat rolled rib roast, veggies, pan juice gravy.

Drinks: Black coffee / tea no sugars, water.

Gotta GP appointment this morning, the medication that replaced the medication that was recalled a month or so back, has now been recalled by the manufacturer. So gotta get another alternative so I can safely take diclofenac and xaralto together with out ripping the lining off of my guts.
