Good morning all. Had my weigh-in last night at slimming group and I've lost 5 and a half pounds! On top of that, my fbg this morning was 6.8! So my week has started well. Now comes the task of keeping it up and that's why I've told you! I've got some salmon for lunch that I'm going to poach and 2 boiled eggs later. Have a wonderful day all. :singing:
Congratulations @RosemaryJackson on your weight management and improving FBG readings.
Well done you.

Breakfast: wasn't so low carb: I made crepes for everyone and had a small one myself with cream and a few strawberries, not that I was tempted, I made a choice, wasn't that fussed on it, didn't want any more, and kept within my limits for the day.

Dinner: bacon eggs and a sausage and a few plum tomatoes.

Toothache from in week might not be toothache at all now, saliva gland went up in cheek last night when eating a salad, the (I think) stensen duct started becoming painful (happened before but rarely and went away a short time after) and when prodded around it really wasn't very nice tasting :yuck:. booked an appt with the dentist rather then the gp as figured they know a fair bit about the mouth and can x-ray, and refer if it's not their area (might be an ENT/Maxfax thing) and also prescribe if there's an infection if needed. Funnily might be related to the odd slight numbness/tingly sensation I've had around my ear all week (which could be totally unrelated as happens more when sat down), and slightly puffy cheek/jaw, that I was seeing if it went away before contacting the doc.

Half term a write off for going out between poorly kids and mouth inspections

In line with that, my planned evening meal was half a 'rookworst' (Dutch smoked sausage) on a slice of LC bread with sauerkraut. Found out I didn't have any sauerkraut left after putting the sausage on the stove to heat up. No problem, tasted very good without the sauerkraut as well, and even less work! :hilarious:
This was sunday, when I learnt that if you heat up a 'rookworst' in a pot of water, cut off a piece to eat and throw the rest back in the pot to cool with a lid for cat protection, it takes approximately 3.5 hours for the water to evaporate and the house to be suddenly smelling of food again if you don't turn off the gas. :hilarious:

I noticed in time to prevent burning, but the rookworst had split and also had a crispy skin now, not something associated with rookworst.
Upon inspection the next day (after throwing it in a dry pan to cool this time) it had gone all wrinkled as well, not very appetising.
So yesterday I made a quick onion soup to hide the now cubed rookworst from view. :joyful:
My onion soup is usually vegetarian with lots of cheese, but the rookworst didn't hurt it at all.

Didn't post yesterday as I was still recovering from all the social goings on on saturday. And also trying to get to terms with likely having back pain and painkillers for the rest of my life after a visit and a good talk to the physio on friday. Takes some getting used to the idea, even though my back has been hurting when standing, walking and sleeping for a couple of years. I'll be fine, I didn't like walking anyway, and ibuprofen takes care of most of the issues when sleeping. Still a bit shaken though.

I had the same soup today. Too much left for one day, too little for two, so the dogs got lucky again. :cat:

Any ideas on a dish based on Chinese cabbage for tomorrow?
I also have tinned tuna, or frozen white fish, or cubed bacon, and things like onion, tomatoes, garlic, cream, and mayonnaise. I'm sure there is a tasty meal hiding in there somewhere, but what is it? :hilarious:

B: full fat greek yoghurt with walnuts and one hm lc brownie crumbled in it.
L: 2 seedy crackers (6g carbs each) with full fat cream cheese and some smoked pork belly
D: pancake cannelloni... pancakes made with 2 eggs, good tablespoon cream cheese and quarter teaspoon arrowroot whisked together. Made 6 thin ones which got wrapped around bolognaise mince. Served with cabbage. Can think of variations for future.
1 mini ice cream

Hadn't left house all day so was very glad to walk to book club at local pub. Had 1 Scotch and then a mint tea.

My eye seems to have changed again. Luckily I have an Opticians appointment on Thursday

Hi All
So back to yesterday.
Usual brekkie of slice LC toast, copious tea.
Lunch was two slices German bread mix with egg mayo. Felt quesy afterwards and decided this bread isn’t for me anymore. Felt slimy. Funny how things you ate before suddenly don’t work.
Supper was 3 meaty sausages, tablesp of Mr P’s baked beans and broccoli.
Today same brekkie. Tummy still off so not sure if lunch will happen.
Supper should be safe cauli rice kind of stirfry with diced chorizo, chicken, and diced red pepper with a pinch of paprika. Will be cooking for Mr P so if I don’t partake I can have my portion for lunch tomorrow.
@RosemaryJackson I am so impressed by your weight loss and well done for the better BG. @DJC3 your steak and salad looks fantastic. @shelley262 your pancakes do look proper though I have never liked pancakes. Its now Lent oc so I wonder if I could give something up!!

Antje I tried to post this as a reply, but couldn't so am trying to post it without a reply to your post about Chinese cabbage.

You could use it as the basis of a stir-fry and add fish or meat and other vegetables that you have to hand.
Or you could try this (quite complicated, but you could adapt it):
Or scrambling some egg, putting it aside while you stir fry the shredded cabbage and other shredded vegetables and then put it all back together.
Edit: or how about Ch cabbage chopped into small chunks, some onion or spring onion, chopped and some tomato, also chopped and the whole lot braised gently in butter? You could have that as a side dish with your fish, or with some kind of sausage.

For all of them: Probably need soy sauce if you like it, or other sauce (maybe Branston, if you have it), and seasoning.

Thank you @PenguinMum. I'm not sure about food today. My friend and I are going on a coach trip to Lincoln so will tell you later. Yesterday I bought some sausages from a butcher who goes to Slimming World and he obviously makes them. Very nice too. I also made a very low carb mousse so hopefully I can keep up the weight loss. S/W really is a low carb diet but you are not allowed saturated fats or at least they are limited. Carbs are also limited. But it seems to suit me better and the group night is a bit of social life for me. So all in all, life is really ok just now! Have a great day everyone. A biiiig hug for anyone who might be in need.

Today's menu
Skipped breakfast-
Lunch -(tastes better than it sounds) fried beansprouts with kippers and cherry tomatoes. I wish I understood seasoning better. It tasted almost like Chinese take out and I'm sure there must be spices or something that would make it even more so.
Dinner- Gammon steak and cauliflour(potato)salad- cauliflour, celery, onion, mayonnaise and mustard topped with crumbled bacon.
Lunch pic looks like a giant portion because it is a tiny fork.View attachment 66140

You can buy Chinese 5 spice at the supermarket, that might help.

Thank you.I kept thinking "chinese 5 spice" in my head but I did't know if it was a combination of spices or an actual thing or something my strange mind had created. I should have googled but will look for it. Cheers

One meal today, I think, so it will be the last of the tagine (really ate too much of it yesterday, but it was so good, so it's not enough for a proper meal). I've chopped up the remains of a chorizo to add to it for a bit more bulk. As long as my BG holds up, that will be enough for today.

Reminder to me: can't get Chinese cabbage here but I should try some of the suggestions for Antje and use ordinary white cabbage. Should be allright, as long as I shred it finely enough. I saw a hint about that, using a vegetable peeler drawn across the cut edge of a cabbage to provide very fine shreds. Maybe for tomorrow.

Took insulin and then forgot to eat the food. Silly....
