What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Last time I was in Richmond Park was in 1962. I was learning to drive our big, old Jowett Javelin (big car, 1500cc) and my dad found a car park within the park with a row of saplings running across it. He had me maneuvering the car through figures of 8 along the line of trees and then reversing 8's back the way we had come. A bit stressful, but I didn't hit any of the trees.

Still, I think walking is a better way to enjoy the park.

The Jowett Javelin was a 6 seater executive car produced from 1947 to 1953 by Jowett Cars Ltd of Idle, near Bradford in England. It was a very comfortable car, albeit a bit quirky and very heavy steering.

Edit: Executive car sounds posh - it was 2nd hand, bought for £300, so though it might have been something to write home about, we were far from posh.

I am really impressed with your driving skills. My Dad had a Humber Super Snipe and that was such a comfortable car also.

Just got back home.
It would take too long to explain properly, but I got a no reply text (I hate those no reply texts) yesterday afternoon, about some medical records which are not right. And someone has assumed that I've not been attending the St Paul's eye hospital since 23 July 2019. And that I have slipped through the net as regards my appointments at St Paul's Eye Hospital Liverpool.

But you all know I have been attending my St Paul's Eye Hospital appointments yearly. And I have said on here that I have an appointment on December 20th.

So who decided I have slipped through the St Paul's Eye Hospital, and why the specific date of from 23 July? That makes no sense. All my St Paul's appointments are Dec/Jan time.

So, I went to my doctorless surgery, to the receptionists to find out what was going on. They tell me I haven't been attending St Paul's Eye Hospital since 23 July 2019. I explain that I have, and that I have my yearly appointment on 20 December very soon.

The receptionist tells me she put this referral through yesterday. Why ? I ask? On whose authority? I'll print out the referral letter she said.

I couldn't make sense of it on first read. And by the way we would like you to come in for a blood pressure check on Monday receptionist said and nurse will give you a blood test form. What is this for, I ask. I don't know, you'll find out when you get here, receptionist said. I would like to know now, I said, please can you ask someone. There's no one here to ask, she replied. No nurse, no doctor I asked? No, she said.

In that huge massive waiting room, there are only two chairs for patients to wait on.

I was there nearly three quarters of an hour while she was dealing with me, and not one soul came in all that time. There was only one other receptionist on the phone dealing with incoming calls. There was no other staff in the back room, prior Covid that was full of people on phones and stuff.

Now I understand the complaints online with my doctorless surgery. People say they ring for days, and they are told they are number 221 (I kid you not) in the telephone queue, but half hour later they get cut off...

I got told by the receptionist I should not have come in, that I should have made a telephone call for my enquiry. I said I couldn't because I was deaf and couldn't hear on the phone and there was no other way of communication with the surgery no email nothing.

You should have done it online then she said. I said there's no means of doing it online I said I used to be able to do it online with 'my health online' but they stopped doing it a long time ago, I said. 'My health online' is only for your prescriptions now she said. You need to.... and then she lost me with what she was saying because I had not heard those words/phrases before so I explained I didn't understand her.
So please could she write it down for me, I asked. She didn't, and I asked again for her to do so

She didn't really want to deal with me anymore so she said, just turn up for the nurse for the blood pressure on on Monday and she will tell you what the blood test will be for.

I got no further with her.

I did some shopping after that because I thought if the weather was still getting bad then I don't really want to go out the next few days so so I did some fridge stuff shopping.

I was tired when I got back in and I open this letter of referral from the doctorless surgery to St Paul's Eye Hospital. It was written by what I think was an Indian doctor locum from 'Pooled Doctors', and it said locum after her name, and I presume this is being done long distance from some nhs hub and she's accessed the surgery records on me, and has very much cherry-picked my medical history for the last 20-years. There is an awful lot that has been missed out. She didn't know me, she has no knowledge of me and I'm going to look at this referral again tomorrow because I am completely confused today. Well I'm not confused I'm just confused as to what is going on.

I sincerely hope this does not mess my 20th of December eye appointment at St. Paul's Liverpool. This is what's worrying me, but there's absolutely nothing I can do about this. Fingers crossed that my St Paul's appointment goes ahead as planned.

Deja Vu @jjraak ?

It is snowing, sleeting, hailing, raining here. The sky is black as thunder...
That is appalling @gennepher and so confusing. The receptionist was not very helpful at all.

I am really impressed with your driving skills. My Dad had a Humber Super Snipe and that was such a comfortable car also.
My dad hired one of those big Humbers for a holiday in Scotland. It was super comfortable, though I never got to drive it - hadn't passed my test at that time. There were 2 problems with the Jowett- the gear change was on the steering column, took a bit of getting used to and the spark plugs were very low down in the engine which was not good design in a wet climate; if they got wet, the car would conk out. Dad and my brother fixed that by putting in spark plugs meant for motor boats, much more water resistant. Once they were in we drove through fairly severe Kentish flooding without damage. (Dad taught us how to do that without flooding the engine.) One flood we went through had the water reaching just below the window level - a bit alarming, but my brother was able to drive through without harm and got us to our appointment on time. It was a good old car.

I am drafting a letter of complaint to the Practice Manager. I will go to my appointment on Monday with this nurse. I will ask questions. If nothing satisfactory resolves, then I will finish my letter and then post my letter, with proof of posting, to the practice manager at the doctorless surgery. I will not give it in at reception, they're just gatekeepers, it could possibly end up in the bin. I have no faith nor trust in this doctorless surgery and the way it is run by the NHS.

I have been upset and angry over this. I know that will get me nowhere, but I allowed myself that period of anger and frustration for this inanity and stupidity and misinformation of theirs (that has the possibility of upsetting my December appointment and relationship with St Paul's), that my doctorless surgery sent a letter to the eye hospital saying I hadn't attended any eye hospital appointments since 23 July 2019, when it patently is not true when I have attended and I have the yearly letters to prove it, and so do the doctorless surgery have these letters, because how else could my doctorless surgery have changed my eye meds in response to the recommendations from the appointment I attended at the eye hospital in Liverpool from December 2021?

If I involve PALS, I will have to go to both the Welsh PALS for my doctorless surgery in Wales, and then also to the English PALS for the Liverpool eye hospital.

This is taking an inordinate amount of my time. I do not want to be doing this in my twilight years, I want to enjoy them without stupid inanities and frustrations caused by incompetent people, who have no right to be in the jobs that they are in.

Creative is a painting of Autumn - yes it really is snowing out there today.

Now to feed the beasts. Jade is not sleeping on the swing these freezing cold nights. I left the cat flap open on the garage door, and she is in there. When I came back yesterday, she was in the kitchen feeding from Midnight's food, but shot out as soon as she saw me. Midnight was in my bed and didn't know Jade was in the kitchen....

Good morning everyone. It’s dark o’clock here in the dark and dangerous north and outside, the light bouncing off that big silver moon is making the frosty pavements, roads, cars, trees etc., sparkle like tiny LED lights laid down by some over enthusiastic festive nut job. It’s our monthly farmers market today and all the stops are being pulled out for a bumper Christmas Fayre. Sounds expensive and why are all the stops being pulled out - they only have an electric organ? Small Yamaha thing, sounds as though it is being played from out at sea. Art bit, finished adding details so now just some shading and the addition of a bit of colour. Hope you all have the very best day that you can have. I am hoping to walk into town if I can calm down the calf muscle in my right leg, torn a bit by some pretty severe cramp at early o’clock. I think it’s a side effect of my current blood pressure tablets. Koffy - best make koffy and down a couple of pain killers.

Smashing autumnal scene, turning towards winter. Sounds like you have a plan regarding your appointment. Take copies of letters and perhaps even photos. All the best for Monday.

Marvelous pic.

And utterly contemptible how you have been treated.

Like the tone of your post
A little "don't get mad..get even" about it.

Considered & measured...like it

Good luck getting something sorted asap.

I can see the horizontal walkway now @dunelm
Hugs for the calf muscle.
Be careful on the icy pavements.
I started to take a dive yesterday on the skating rink pavements, but two very alert burly workmen grabbed me...so you be blinking careful on the skating rinks.
Have a good day.

Thank you for the compliment @jjraak

I really don't get it.
Thank you.

Right. It is out of my mind until Monday, not one thing I can achieve on this before then, so it shall not occupy one bit of space in my head.

I have some lovely vanilla Skyr yoghurt for a treat with some sour cream (from the Polish shop, it tastes far more substantial than the insipid English sour cream, and Midnight asks for a helping of the Polish sour cream, gobbles it up). Might be my breakfast...

You have a good day.

Great that your Dad and brother were able to fix the issue. Modern cars now seem to be much more complex to fix.

I am afraid difficulties with the health service are getting much more common. The system is near breaking point, locally there are few pathologists and looks like Marjorie is going to have wait 12 weeks for the histology on serious lesions that have now joined each other and formed a large plaque on her leg.
They do not know what this problem is, it looks like we shall have to get a private second opinion in Newcastle or Manchester.

Still slogging away at the curtains. It has taken so long because I have great difficulty in deciding how to achieve the right result and am very hesitant to cut into the small amount of available fabric without being certain its the correct place to cut. Now i am resigned to the fact that matching is impossible and am working on a "Get the blasted things done" basis.
Prioritising them now.
When they are finished I need to organise a temporary removal to a different bedroom. The chimney breast runs through the blue guest bedroom making it significantly warmer than the larger master bedroom. We have decided to relocate our sleeping quarters. Although the four foot wide bed may feel a little cramped to start with.
Kiki to the vet again today for yet another vaccination.
The quince are reduced to juice. Going in the freezer for later.
Am considering turning some of the frozen beefburgers into meatloaf...
Still plenty of work needed in the garden. If I can resist going out there might get the curtains finished today. Still at least I have a plan for them now, so can stop dithering and get on with them.
Coffee drunk. Time to move Kiki!

That is bad @lindisfel
All I can offer is virtual hugs for her, and you as well.

Get it over and finished today @SlimLizzy
Warmer bedroom sounds brilliant idea.
No gardening today....curtains!
