Happy Christmas Day everyone. How you celebrate it is your choice, if at all, but have a peaceful and joyful day.
Had a visit last evening from my (step) grandson and his wife. Haven't met her before but she seems very nice. How a sensible girl like her took on a young man like him, I can't imagine. I'm very fond of him, and he's a charmer, of course, but needs to settle down to a serious adult life. Maybe she can help him with that. They arrived on the Island on Wednesday evening and they very kindly came bearing gifts - a box of After Eight mints which I shouldn't eat, but did (not the whole box, just one or two, or 4) and some viscous liquid in a Christmas bauble which seems to be mildly scented, but I don't know what it is, or what to do with it. Decision, hide it away, it seems to contain patchouli, which Neil is seriously allergic to. It was a kind thought, and that's what counts. The best thing was to actually meet the new wife. A very pleasant surprise.
A few days ago, Em brought in a huge sack with instructions not to open it until Christmas day, which I obeyed. I am overwhelmed by the kindness and thoughtfulness of the family. There were several things in the sack - 2 books, an icing turntable, a warm, furry snood and a warm, furry Oodie. I am astonished by the number of gifts - I wasn't really expecting anything - hadn't even thought about receiving anything. In the midst of all the difficulties Em's family have been experiencing this year, they found time to think of me and buy gifts for me.
Neil has just come along to the kitchen with another gift for me - it's a new kind of mop to allow the floor to be dried after washing. That was also very welcome and as sensible as Neil always is. He used to buy me very intellectual books - perhaps trying to educate me, but has given that up as a lost cause. Useful and sensible is the way now. I'm afraid Neil is one of the "Bah humbug" brigade really, but he sets that aside in my case.
FBG was 8.8. Higher now, after the couple or so After Eights. Pork in the oven slow cooking for much later today so everything ticking over nicely. Having eaten those mints, I developed a serious pain in my stomach and had to take Rennies to calm it down. Guess I'll have to find another home for the rest of the box.
