What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Happy Christmas Day everyone. How you celebrate it is your choice, if at all, but have a peaceful and joyful day.

Had a visit last evening from my (step) grandson and his wife. Haven't met her before but she seems very nice. How a sensible girl like her took on a young man like him, I can't imagine. I'm very fond of him, and he's a charmer, of course, but needs to settle down to a serious adult life. Maybe she can help him with that. They arrived on the Island on Wednesday evening and they very kindly came bearing gifts - a box of After Eight mints which I shouldn't eat, but did (not the whole box, just one or two, or 4) and some viscous liquid in a Christmas bauble which seems to be mildly scented, but I don't know what it is, or what to do with it. Decision, hide it away, it seems to contain patchouli, which Neil is seriously allergic to. It was a kind thought, and that's what counts. The best thing was to actually meet the new wife. A very pleasant surprise.

A few days ago, Em brought in a huge sack with instructions not to open it until Christmas day, which I obeyed. I am overwhelmed by the kindness and thoughtfulness of the family. There were several things in the sack - 2 books, an icing turntable, a warm, furry snood and a warm, furry Oodie. I am astonished by the number of gifts - I wasn't really expecting anything - hadn't even thought about receiving anything. In the midst of all the difficulties Em's family have been experiencing this year, they found time to think of me and buy gifts for me.

Neil has just come along to the kitchen with another gift for me - it's a new kind of mop to allow the floor to be dried after washing. That was also very welcome and as sensible as Neil always is. He used to buy me very intellectual books - perhaps trying to educate me, but has given that up as a lost cause. Useful and sensible is the way now. I'm afraid Neil is one of the "Bah humbug" brigade really, but he sets that aside in my case.

FBG was 8.8. Higher now, after the couple or so After Eights. Pork in the oven slow cooking for much later today so everything ticking over nicely. Having eaten those mints, I developed a serious pain in my stomach and had to take Rennies to calm it down. Guess I'll have to find another home for the rest of the box.

Thank you @ianpspurs, @Annb, @dunelm, @gennepher. Mr K started improving very quickly after the first dose of antibiotic. By yesterday evening his temperature was normal and the coughing and wheezing was much better. Thank goodness for NHS 111.

Today he is even better. We are having an absolutely wonderful time here at Holkham with daughter and her family. We have all retired to our rooms for a nap as even the grandchildren are tired. Walking along the beach and through the pine woods in the morning was magical. Then a lovely Christmas meal.

Fantastic news...

Well done to all involved for getting him chrimbo ready..:)

We might moan about it at times, but when it's needed, the NHS really provides first class service.

Wonderful news on Mr K's recovery. The beach and pine woods must have been lovely. I've only seen that Hotel from the outside but that gave the impression of being very welcoming. I bet they have Assam Tea. Waitrose is closed tomorrow as well.

So glad to hear that Mr K is better and that the antibiotics are working. Enjoy the rest of your break with your family.

Merry Christmas everyone. I know those who must calculate insulin dosage need to test but what's the excuse for the rest of y'all? @dogslife wonderful to hear from you and have a safe and happy time yourself. 3.30 start here with two members of the Elf Squad - mum and dad did talk one back to bed at 12.45. Some wonderful memories for the Elf Squad, their parents, great grandmother plus JKP and myself. Here is a poem for Christmas day and a longer one here - some will appreciate the art. Parts of today or the coming days may allow a period of quiet reflection, The Milton one is actually the one in Guite's anthology. @gennepher such a wonderful creative and words. So colourful and cheerful. Thanks to you and I'm sure we all wish you the same. However you spend the day, so be it.
Thank you@ianpspurs. No testing for me! Glad you made happy memories. We had our Christmas lunch early yesterday at home as this afternoon we spent with mum in her nursing home. The first face to face Christmas since the start of Covid/ lock downs so a blessing. Best wishes. :)

Good morning everyone on a wonderfully quiet start to Boxing Day here in the dark and dangerous north. Turkey in a slow cooker - a first and a good outcome. It enabled us to go out and about visiting and then back in time to prepare a meal for four. Just Miggins and I with eldest son and his partner. She did a 10 hour shift yesterday, from home and a little bit at our house, with timed breaks logged by an official looking laptop. There was the odd murmur like, “ram raid”, “RTA”, that sort of thing - a scenes of crime officer working as duty dispatcher. What fun! Some interesting and thoughtful gifts changed hands, the TV remained firmly off and all was well in our little worldly bubble. I even managed a quick sketch between sips and adding yet another Christmas Dinner ‘must have’ ingredient from the timing list to the cooking machines. I hope that you and all you know had a wonderful day and that today will be just the same. I now need koffy.

Whoa! Another of those vertiginous spirals. Dizzy-making.

Welcome to St Stephen's Day cum Boxing day 2022 part 1 everyone. I do miss a good Brian Rix farce but British Politics is a good swap just now. This day (and the next) in 2020 my fbg was 4.8 via Tee2 but today ?????. Hope everyone had as wonderful (for them) a day as possible yesterday. Three standouts for me from yesterday were buttered, toasted fruit bread (huge mug of Assam would have totally sealed the deal), Old Winchester sausages and Festal Mattins in Winchester Cathedral. Whatever your belief or feelings about formal worship - morning @Muddy Cyclist we miss you. The architecture, spectacle, beauty of the choral music, (descant on "Hark the Herald" live was glorious "in the flesh"; numinous awe??) sense of history (The Last Kingdom?) and occasion were special. Full house with a queue for sung Eucharist following on. Busy day for the choristers. Rishi’s old school doesn’t look too shabby either. Seasonal little piece - ring any bells? A new poem here and today’s poem and art from Malcolm Guite’s anthology. @dunelm thanks for sharing the art. Yesterday sounds as good as it gets for you in terms of personalisation and timing. @dogslife how lovely for you and Mr DL to be able to finally visit (his?) Mum on Christmas Day at last. @Krystyna23040 I hope Mr K continues his recovery. The description of Christmas at The Victoria sound amazing - enjoy. I was right to see turkey crown as just plain wrong but I realise it is the people I share Christmas with not the food that counts. Presumably that's why God manoeuvred me into this scenario when all my instincts screamed no. Won't stop us having our own favourites with the rest of the family on our return. Don't try to do unto today what others do unto today - never works. COYS.

Thank you for sharing your bright, light creative. Of course I should have said it is the people and wildlife one shares Christmas with, my bad. My bad what is never made clear. You enjoy that Christmas pud and custard. Diabetes or not you couldn't force feed me the pud but as I said we must have our own best day until The Almighty steers us in directions we ought to go for lasting happiness.

Thank you Ian.
We all appreciate something different.
A day of peace and solitude (from people) is my pleasure.
But it includes the busy nighttime wildlife here, which was intensely noisy outside last night. I fell asleep with my cochlear processor on, and it woke me up.
Not looked at the wildlife camera yet...

A people day is planned later this week @ianpspurs

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all who are skinny dipping in stretches of water.

No blood sugars being reported from me, me’s and myself, taken, but not reported.

Now I can confess I am officially old, I wanted a pair of slippers for Christmas and was really pleased to receive a pair. Now I must work on the grumpy part.
If I manage to master the technology I shall attach a picture of my slippers and my assassins guild socks. Getting old is wonderful.

Image, slippers, socks and presents one really wants are wonderful. Getting old completely sucks. If you need tips on being grumpy - also known by some as telling it as it is/antidote to boosterism - I'll "ask a friend" who is bound to have loads of tips.

Nice socks Mr Teatime.

Hi all,
It was good chatting with our 16 year old grandson yesterday, he has developed a dark brown voice and mature outlook. He was due to play monopoly with his Mum and Dad in the afternoon and was hoping they wouldn't argue too much! His mum and dad are unbelievably competitive.

Getting old is difficult some people are fitter than others, but life, even when old and problematical is good.

I had a chat with one of our friends this am, he is younger than me and just had lymph glands removed due a melanoma spreading. He is brave and optimistic but has a difficult problem.
We pray he recovers well.

Despite all the ups and downs, aches and pains and the inability to translate the fruity language of the young, getting old is still a privilege I think. So many people don’t make it. Take care Derek.

Your concern for others and cheerful outlook does you great credit. Best wishes for your friend who has a hard row to now.
