What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning to all our UK correspondents of The Testing Tines. You will all be pleased to learn POTUS says Kier is doing a very good job so we aren't on the rename or invade list - yet. I think you-know-who already sold us and we aren't an attractive takeover option. @dunelm thank you for sharing today's art. @gennepher thank you for sharing the kaleidoscope. Burns night came and went without drama. #1 son has used our Sky rewards? or whatever they are to take MIL and his daughter to Cambridge to see the latest Padington film. Today will be Sunday lunch with #3 son and partner, no grandchildren so larger portions of crackling all round, over excited kitchen tap replacement (by son) and watching some NFL playoff action. Your Sunday is your own affair - Gerald Harper's on Capital is a fond but distant memory - let's hope it isn't illicit with tea and buns on a station.

My mobility scooter has been returned to me in working order but the weather has been so foul I have not been able to use much yet.
The other night there was an incident out side our house on the other side of the road involving an elderly gentleman who was riding his scooter on the road at night he was in a collision with a car and was taken to hospital.by ambulance this made me realise just how careful you have to be while using you scooter on the road I do hope that he is ok but so far have not heard anything about the outcome.

You do have to be very careful with a mobility scooter. I have had various close encounters with a car. The car's fault because they act like you don't exist. I have a friend who was over a year and a half in hospital after his last accident in his scooter with a car.

I will not cross any main roads in my scooter any more, even though I have right of way eg a green crossing light. If I have a friend with me, then yes I will.

But it is as if the car driver has a blindness as regards anyone driving a mobility scooter, even if the mobility scooter has right of way, even with crossing lights.

Op: spotted this in some wood, does everyone see a dog ?

Grouchy : all I see is some sad (expletive) staring at me.

Wry comment: turn your monitor on.

Yes, doesn't make sense when you think about it, but that image makes me chuckle ... :hilarious:

I think they are the new Sinclair C5.

Drivers don't seem to spot them or maybe wonder why they're not on the pavement with all the other electric powered paraphernalia

Hope the gents ok .

Indeed John, 360 vision, scan before moving .

When biking I saw a great post regarding vision of fighter pilots which I tried to employ when riding .

They can't take in all the info by looking straight ahead was the gist

And wobble/move their head while flying to get their brain to recognise ALL the picture their eyes take in

Apparently, it's a 'feature' of the brain where it makes up the missing pixels that our eyes miss..

Making that "SMIDSY*" Moment post accident almost true ...

(*Sorry mate, I didn't see you :banghead: )

I'll try to find and post it.

Here we go.

Never hurts to be aware how limited others might be in vision or thinking .

I'd say essential reading for motorcyclist & cyclists inc mobility scooters..and a worthy read for any driver before they are the ones offering 'THAT' apology, hopefully to someone suitable irate.... not some poor soul lying injured or deceased

Travel safe

This is so true peripheral vision can be so limited having on occasion travelled in high speed jets I can appreciate what happens when closing at high speed.
Personally even though my scooter is road legal I prefer to keep to the pavements where possible and rarely take it on the road much safer.

Many years ago now, Tom was cycling to work in Stornoway. It was a drizzly kind of day, but not heavy rain. He was wearing a bright yellow cycling cape and should have been easily seen. However, just within the town limits, a taxi pulled out of a side road just as Tom was directly in front of it. It rammed into him full on. Luckily, he wasn't badly hurt, although his bike was. That driver just "didn't see" him. Maybe too busy looking right and left. The bike was ruined so he couldn't cycle to work again. Probably just as well.

My father in law was on his way home and was pushing his bike on the pavement when a car mounted the pavement and hit him fracturing his spine in two places was never able to work again.

Another 6.9 on the Richter scale. Or whatever.

just tired today, up half the night again.
lots of chores to do and how storm coming through.
it is very windy again and damp and cold.
no grandkids today. So a very peaceful day, please?

Mrs L has told me that I have quite a few friends coming around this day.
I have no idea.
Also there is something missing that she is not aware that it is missing, but keeps looking for it, Mrs L keeps asking me to find it, even though I know it's not there, whatever it is!
Cofused?
Well so am I!

Meanwhile back in the land of reality...... Fish supper for us.

enjoy you windy Sunday.

later alligator.
In a while crocodile.

hang on, wasn't that yesterday?

losing the plot a bit here.

Funny for dark humour of the alligator quip.

Tough dealing with Mrs L and the missing item.
(Sounds like a Wallace & grommet adventure )

You're a man of such patience Lamont, though I can imagine you think otherwise.

Hope the moment eases & she moves on to mithering about something less stressful for You both.

I've tried to keep a low profile about the alligators thing ..(thing, NOT a fetish, ok )
So I won't mention them

But as it's just me & you here,
Did you notice the alien lord and the green beetle with the laser mouth posted earlier...mmhh

Can't be certain, but I've seen enough MiB movies to know when they lose something aliens do not give up easy .

I quite like they still have hope of finding the stick people ....hope they find them .

Anyway.
Keep it stumm

I think the others are trying hard not to show their concerns over the loss.. stuff upper lip & all that.

Best wishes mate

Hi Dougal!!!

Ah, looks again...the nose of the big dog which I did not see initially is what I saw as Dougal....

Patience has been tried and found guilty mate.

I have gone through life forever looking for aliens. I mean from other worlds.
Not just the one that we live on.
As a trekkie, why not?
And I have seen strange folk, as you intimate from MiB.
Indeed, the more you look, the more questions are asked.
And, it could explain the reason why some beings, are so inhumane and control the world. Cos the good people in this world, defo don't.
I bet you, Nigel is a Romulan,
The Kardashian are Cardassians.
and Boris is Pakled.
The Orange one, I suspect is Breen. His 'look' must be cosmetic. It is the same every day, same suit, same shurt, same tie. Same length of hair etc.
musk, where do they get these surnames? Is defo species 8357.

I myself come from the planet, Mercia, and our language is Scouse.

Don't forget...
Put off today, what you can also put off tomorrow.

And I see many things in many things.
It's an illusion!
We live in a locker!
Best wishes.

A brilliant article @jjraak
Because I am profoundly deaf and I've had no hearing most of my life while driving, I have always moved my head constantly while driving. It was just something I did to be safe and aware and take everything in. I have been driving since I was 17 Years old.
I think I'm probably aware of everything in the article, but didn't know the technical terms for it.
There are several higher accident spots on the A55.
At least two of them are near me and they are where the so-called blindspot is at the rear passenger side of the car, where you a see a car coming up alongside you, and then it just vanishes and I am looking all over for it. By the way, I have noticed this for many years in other situations. And it's usually when I need to move over into that left lane. But obviously, I do not do so because I don't know where that car is. The mind does not register that car once it hits that blind spot.

My solution was to come off a junction earlier, which is only a few hundred yards before this slip road, go partially round a roundabout, and come down back on the left lane into the same slip road, but I do not have to cross two lanes now.

Now I have read this article, I am understanding a lot more, and I will try that slip road where that blindspot is again where a car appears to vanish, knowing a lot more after reading this article.

A friend of mine who I used to give lifts to, commented on me looking around all the time for the road conditions cars et cetera. She would tell me off saying you don't need to do that. Stop looking around you've turned onto the road, you don't need to keep looking around anymore just look straight ahead. As you can guess I stopped giving her lifts, she would not shut up about me looking around. Most distracting. And in any case, I had told her do not talk to me when I'm driving because I need to take my eyes off the road to lip read you, and I am not doing that again, she did not listen to me... another reason why I stopped giving her lifts. I have always looked for indications on a car that is not going to do what the indicator says it is going to do....and more.

A lot of drivers are too intent on having conversations to the passenger or to their mobile phone, even a hands-free one, that their attention cannot be 100% on the road.

Thanks for posting this, I have saved it and I'm going read it again tomorrow

What a clever solution.

I get entirely how that must feel, good thinking easing the journey in that way .

As for your 'passenger'....how rude & annoying.

I'm not sure if it's the ingrained 'loneliness' of motorcycling, (though I do prefer the term 'lone wolf ' ;) ) or the self preservation part, but hearing & listening out for danger made the idea of drowning out that sense with music while I rode a non starter for me, but I rarely have the radio on in the car either, except for real long trips.

More so I think because I find it distracting.
And a passenger that requires constant input & signs (aka turning my face to them occasionally) of active listening would be jarring in the extreme.

Both Lauren & Steph are happy to be in the car but both know my priority isn't to make life a little easier by the lift or ride, it's to take and deliver them SAFELY to the destination.

I can't & don't employ that normal mode of active listening in the car & they understand that.

Your 'friend' seemed to think controlling your behaviour was more important....idiot .

And the extra challenge you face having to lip read in-between watching the road for danger...made her a menace to your safety and all those on road around you, too.

A good call I say on your behalf.

Would that there were more like minded drivers like you.

Was speaking just today to a lady & agreeing how poor the standard of driving is these days

One of my pet hates is the seemingly obligatory 3 (or more usually much higher) point turn on almost any of London's roads, main roads included.

No worries about stopping all the traffic, you just carry on faffing about rather than just going around the block to reverse your direction of travel ...others will patiently wait , applauding as they admire your consummate driving skills & ability to shuffle your car back & forth & back & forth in your relentless attempt to master turning your car around..:banghead:

Apologies for the mog moment

Again good calls & solutions
Glad you found the article interesting.

As an addition to your post @gennepher

Those little tips & tricks we learn during our driving careers .

For the bikes I used to pay attention to the front wheels of cars, a warning that the car's going to deviate without warning or , as you point out the opposing way to how they indicate.

Near the end of our road is a bend, that you can't see around if turning right until you are halfway across & turning into the left hand lane

However the road it's on has shops all along it, which it's possible to almost use like a mirror.
A tactic I employ elsewhere too, usually when stuck in traffic behind a van or bus.

I like & find it helpful to know when traffic in front is on the move so I can be ready to go too

I'm sure we all have multiple examples of local 'blind spots & challenges ' we've overcome in similar ways .

Tte benefits of experiences learned or shared .
A quality that seems missing for far too many drivers today .

A motorcycling quote that rings true

"There are old bikers
There are bold bikers.
But there are no old bold bikers"

And an advert for "think bike" that still resonates.

"Ride the roads you know,
As well as the ones you don't"

Gist was a twist on the motorcyclists yearning to enjoy the travel adventures of riding new & unexplored roads

A warning not to be complacent, & take the same care tegardless, no matter how close you are to home .

Which I rather liked reminding myself of at times
