What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Dreadful when someone steals your ideas. My late uncle, senior scientist for Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, formulated Lenor and sort of invented Pringles (how to use up the slurry from a commercial potato peeling company) but I don’t think he got other than a bonus for those.
Yes, I get similar results from a bit of cheese and carry cheese and nuts when traveling (my just in case box).

I don't for 1 moment advocate using the NHS/eatwell/starchy foods WOE. I think it is advisable to go in with the eyes wide open, knowing LC will be very different , probably challenging (especially if you like eating out and have a non lc partner) and some carby/sugary foods will always taste better is the only way to do this. There is a cost for many of us and it does look like remission rate is (some way?) under 50% - sell this honestly or risk people trying and becoming very anti quite quickly.

Wise words and thoughts.
Thanks for the link, oh and I didn't mean to imply you advocated the NHS diet, badly phrased post on my part.

I have been juggling with todays grey looking weather and threat of rain with to Mountain Bike or not, I think Mountain Biking is winning the day so off for a spin as Mrs MC is at her hairdressers.

A belated good morning to you all, I have been busy teaching for the last couple of weeks so have missed a lot so I will give hugs to those that need them, High fives to those who need it and a massive well done to everyone, just because. I have been unwell lately with exceptionally high readings (average of 28) due to my cannulas not playing well with others, so a truly massive amount of insulin required, displaying symptoms again and just generally feeling ill. I have now changed cannulas and have readings back into single figures and long may it continue, as I feel that if it happens again I will just throw everything in the bin and go on holiday! I have been battling the meter of doom quite hard, but unfortunately it has been sat gloating with glee as it constantly threw numbers at me that would make your eyes bleed. But we live to battle another day.

Take care everyone.

Whilst it is good to see you back and immensely uplifting to note your concern for others it is also sad to learn of your struggles. As manly a hug as I can mange young sir.

Winner for deciding to Mountain Bike - unleash that free spirit while you can.

5.3 yesterday
5.4 today
Daughter has finished for half term and hubby has invited her for afternoon tea to use a lovely voucher he got for retirement. Its tea for 2 and obviously wasted on me. So granddaughter and the 3 of us going out this afternoon. It's a 40 minute scenic drive. I know it will be challenging watching them all stuffing their faces with sandwiches, cakes and such but the chef said he will do me something special. I didnt request low carb as everyone's idea of lchf is different (I mean you only have to look at the DUK website!). I've no idea what he has in mind but expect salad will be involved.

It's at times like this that I do wish I could join in the fun but the thoughts dont linger thankfully. I may just succumbe to the cream on top of the scone though and lick it off like Cheshire cat savouring every drop. Then again I might end up being thrown out so perhaps not one of my better ideas.

Thanks for the winner, just got back, a very misty Autumn ride when up on the tops of the heathland.
I dropped onto the red technical route to finish and on a very steep, bum over back of saddle section I was greeted with lines of school kids either side of the single track, whooping and calling out encouragement to go faster, which I did of course. They had white tape laid out on the floor at different distances, can only assume they were measuring speed, hope I impressed Now I know how the guys on the Tour of France race feel, extatic!
Edit.. forgot to say BG reading 6 not impressed.

Picked up another Watercolour commission today, a sunset from photos they have sent and they want it large so off to get started on some ideas.

6.8 FBG in here, 8 degrees out there. The weather site says Sunshine but I don't know how they can tell, the sun isn't even up yet.
I got about 5 hours' sleep last night, which is more than on some previous nights, and having eaten so little yesterday I was hoping for something more like 5.8, but since what I did eat was more carbs than protein I guess 6.8 will do.

@PenguinMum I am in sympathy with you on the FBG reading this morning.
@Muddy Cyclist your ride sounds thrilling. And I know those kids enjoyed it too.
@karen8967 I hope your numbers are better now. Your experience puts my "bad" nights into perspective.
@ianpspurs I think you and I think along similar lines as to LCHF eating.
@johnpol it's good to see you back again; sorry you have been having problems. Sending a hug to you.
@HarryBeau congratulations on the good night's sleep. I slept longer and better last night than on some previous nights -- I'm glad you got the good rest.
@gennepher your trip to the fabric shop gave me pleasant memories of times spent in fabric shops with my mother. All the fabric shops that used to be in my area are long gone, the most recent closure was about 3 years ago. I think there is a specialist fabric shop somewhere not far away; mostly upholstery fabrics I think.

Big hugs to you johnpol x

Thanks saskia x

a very average 6.1 this am..admittedly AFTER i had my first morning tea..

Busy with the home decor stuff,

@karen8967 ..hugs for the scores..how horrible for you.
@johnpol .i knew the cannula was causing issues. so it's good to see you back on here, and hopefully back to as normal as normal gest for all of us..
@dunelm ..interesting background story there, Dunelm..had read the inventors story last night.
very mean spirited when a worker brings in such a valuable revenue stream that that is not recognised more swiftly AND justly.
(read similar of the 'Black Box' inventor)

well done getting out, @Muddy Cyclist
sounds like a fitting end to the run out as well..

hope everyone else is having a decent day, must go
tea break over..paints dry, time for the 2nd coat..

But we live to battle another day.
There you are john I am sorry you have had such a rough ride...sometimes it does feel like everything is thrown at us all at once...thankfully you are doing better and as you say we live to fight another day...great to have you back.

Update from my afternoon tea:

Here's my social media post:

TODAY BLEW ME AWAY FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS

Eric got a lovely voucher for afternoon tea for 2 here at Stepping Stones in Garstang for his Christmas present from his boss (it's amazing) . Anne-Marie has finished for half term so invited her and Willow .my idea was that she could eat my half of all 3 tiers and we could have some quality time. So phoned up restaurant to book. Afternoon tea for 2 (amma and eric) and 1 diabetic. 'Don't worry chef will sort something' I expected a salad which I would have been more than happy with. What happened when I arrived almost moved me to tears. The lady (married to the owner, her words) greeted me and showed us to our table overlooking the most gorgeous riverside, very picturesque.

***She had gone online to get diabetic recipes so she could mirror an afternoon tea for me!!!!!***

As many diabetic websites advocate low fat, wholemeal bread and fruit this is what she put together. She had bought wholemeal bread for sandwiches, low fat spread, and filled them with egg and low fat mayo, tuna, ham and low fat cheese. Spinach quiche, humus and chili crisps, mixed fruit involving lots of grapes with Greek yoghurt (low fat). Cakes of many varieties including avocado and banana, apple pie, scone, chocolate cake, lemon drizzle cake, walnut cake. All made with sweetener, erythritol! And low fat. She had done all this for one afternoon tea....for me!!! Now I dont do low fat as loaded with sugar, same with grapes, bananas, bread. I skipped the bread and shared mine out with my chips, barmcake and onion rings from my burger but because of all the trouble she went to I just had to sample each dessert. I asked for cream to go with them! And more when that ran out They were all absolutely delicious. You could not tell sweetener was involved or low fat for that matter and my blood sugars are loving it too!!! So if anyone is looking for somewhere beautiful to sit and enjoy an afternoon tea or a nice meal or just glass of wine looking out at lovely country views look no further. This place is highly recommended.
