What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Rain, rain, rain, to much food, to much drink, to much music and so daughter and family have stayed the night as Mrs MC insisted, not an unusual bed time for me, thought I might let Dracula out for a bite and was rewarded with a 5 not bad but the red wine probably contributed. So if I wake in 4 hours a lot of tip toeing about so not to wake them.

Sleep well all you people. Good night.

mmh.

i'm just not seeing what THAT is, @gennepher :sorry:

before every one started posting i assumed it was a satellite picture of sweden..:***::hilarious:

Well, it could be ancient rock sculpture/art. Or abstract art. Or magical fairy patterns....

But I was standing ankle deep in 4 inch paddling pool round my bungalow, and it was 2 inches from the top my bedroom doorstep (I have a door that opens from my bedroom into the garden). I was trying to take a photo from above the water because the circles were fascinating and I had been watching from my bed earlier as the water was rising. But I couldn’t expose my phone camera to the rain, so I literally took photos blind from under my jumper. I was only out there a minute but I was a drowned rat when I came in.

Cat declined to come out saying he hadn’t learnt to swim.

So, batty old lady strikes again. And she will not be taking any photos in deluges of rain today because it took her two hours to warm up after. She has satisfied her need for taking photos of concentric circles on water in rain....

Fbg 6.7

And it’s still raining (heavy rain and warnings all today), but accumulated water around my bungalow is draining away down the hill to the poor souls who live down below.

That is why I live in a hill, nearly 400 feet above sea level.

Some years ago in rain, I had to go to a hospital appointment. I had no idea how bad it could be down below. It was a river of water on the main roads (which I didn’t really have any indication of from the top of my hill), although the water running down the steep hill should have been an indication to me. But I didn’t realise at that time.

So, I am now at the main road, at the bottom, driving to the hospital. I am seeing rivers of water running through shops (spellcheck keeps changing shops to ships???) and businesses. I am about to turn round to go back home, when a man hole cover blows up into the air in front of me with a huge spout of water. I am fine. Car is fine. I go home but I cannot get back up my steep hill because of the rivers of water by now, so I have to find a roundabout route home.

I have never set off on a road journey again if a deluge of rain is on or predicted. And I drive off any motorway and wait in a safe place until the worst has gone...

Good morning, I was welcomed with a 5.3 at 4 am so not a lot of sleep again.

Once our impromptu guests, daughter and co, arise, breakfast and sort I suspect it will be midday, then Mrs MC will feel guilty and ask them to stay for lunch, so another lovely day with family ahead for me.

If you have rain, enjoy. If not enjoy your day anyway you can.

5.2
En route to conwy to help dr Joanne McCormack (fat is my friend) in a public health collaboration event. Silly o'clock.

Currently blowing balloons up in the car! Dont worry I'm not driving!

Just read this. It makes my blood boil. We want monitors on prescription and NHS money could be better spent to help this happen.

6.1 this morning and a weekend to myself. I have a small sideline in social media management, nothing big and it ticks over nicely. Yesterday had a request from the States for work on 3 new accounts for five months, early Christmas present :)

Impressive @OldButBold will keep you out of mischief these dark and dreary days, a man with hidden talents indeed.

It costs me about three hours a week but it can be fun learning about something new. I prefer to have lots of 'little things' to do rather than one thing that takes up my time. A lifetime of varied training means I have broad brushstrokes in later life (someone else told me that) :)

On a lighter note I have just received confirmation that our two kittens are available for collection on the 12th of November...as promised here are the photos (only got them via email this morning) they are just adorable...ATM called Dot & Dally they have been renamed after yet another battle with the girls who thought my choice was rubbish...so I'm pleased to introduce Charlie & Lola

So here they are
I'm in love!!!

Good morning from yet another dribblingly moist morning in the dark and dangerous and very wet north - will I need to build a boat?

The wonder wheel of lots of friends round for dinner last night (at least four of whom are sleeping in various locations around the house) gave way to a 4.9 this am.

Interesting when wine on the table is both regular and non-alcoholic - amusing to watch the care with how people top themselves up - can’t be too careful.

Have a wonderful day if you can - stomp about in the rain in your welly boots if you can’t.

5.7 this morning. Woke to Groundhog Day as the kitchen has flooded again. I thought we had this problem fixed last year but the horizontal rain and howling wind last night must have found a new route in. I’ve a horrible feeling this will mean a new roof.
@gennepher I was gobsmacked at your account of the exploding manhole cover - must have terrified you! We are also on a hill so shouldn’t get much ground water but goodness there’s a lot of above ground water. I intend to stay in today apart from trying to get Dennis out to the toilet occasionally - he hates the rain so it’s quite a task. Good thing he’s not a very large dog I quite often have to pick him up and cart him off down the lane.
@dunelm and @Muddy Cyclist sounds like you both had lovely evenings with friends and family round and now waking up all around you. We went round daughter&SiLs for his birthday last night - a takeaway curry and all the family there, many people sitting on the floor to eat. Such a nice happy evening. Eldest granddaughter (9yo) whispered to me contentedly at one point “I love it when everyone’s here”

Well spray me with lavender water and call me Maude, I slept until 6.45. Then the wheels appeared to come off until I reflected a little. Fbg was 6.2 - which is where it can sometimes be around 7.15 when I have been up and about for 3-4 hrs. Weight alarmingly shot just over 12st in old money - 3 years wasted? 2 day delayed delivery of logs finally arrived to explain that a little. Anyhow, tomorrow is our 35th wedding anniversary so it looks like I can do something right. Time to research Cedd of the Eastern Saxons - I know about Alfred.
@Muddy Cyclist and @dunelm sounds as though last night was joyous for both you guys. @DJC3 hug for the kitchen flood but winner for granddaughter comment.
The mind of a fool is like a broken jar; it can hold no knowledge.

6.0 this morning. Not surprising as was drinking coffee until nearly 2am - chatting to daughter and her husband. I bought some Meridian Crunchy Almond butter for grandchildren's visit and at 2am thought it a really good idea to have a really huge spoonful of it. So I think actually a 6.0 was not too bad.

Morning All. 6.8 from damp and windy Kent. It must have been the big fish (in batter from the chip shop). Am dog sitting again this morning and watching tv so very relaxing. My charge is now so old and doddery he only toddles around the block late afternoon.
@DJC3 hugs for the flooded kitchen must be such heavy rain pouring down there and @gennepher not far off a flooded bedroom. I hope and pray it doesnt get any worse for you. @OldButBold congrats on the new appointments, clever boy you are! @dunelm and @Muddy Cyclist and @DJC3 the absolute best of times happen when we share with our nearest and dearest. My heart is breaking for those young Vietnamese people and their families. Try and enjoy saturday everyone. Stay well, take care and fingers crossed dry!

good morning all :)

was 4.7 on Thursday, 3.9 yesterday and 4.2 today

this 'probably a virus' thing I've had seems to be taking a while to subside but I have found taking half a dose of some cough jollop before bed has helped me sleep :) and incidentally to sleep in too :hilarious:
Interesting how fighting off even what may be an irritating rather than awful level viral illness can push body 'norm' things about isn't it?

Out volunteering the last couple of days but we're planning to have a quieter day today though we will need to go out to the shops for tomorrow's dinner at mum's.

Better start catching up on the thread now ;)

Hope your day treats you well :)

I had seen films/news items of exploding drain covers before, but not in real life. Scary.

Poor you and the flooded kitchen floor. It's one thing after another. I hope it doesn't mean a new roof. But if you do have to get a new roof, get a reputable firm, not the cowboys my next door neighbour got for his roof...

Hugs for you.
My last dog did not like rain or water. I adapted a jacket with a hood from a baby's hooded body warmer. I won't say she was very keen on wearing it initially, but got used to it.

More hugs for you.

I’ve somehow missed the fact that you are dog sitting a gentle old pooch. If anything can bring you bg down, a lovely relaxing day with a furry pal will surely do it. Shame the battered fish wasn’t more forgiving but I’m sure you enjoyed every bite.

The big fish in batter sounds worth it!!!

Enjoy your mini holiday!

Thank you. The paddling pool round the bungalow went down in the night, but is rising again. I might have to brave the rain later to try brush some of the water into the road if this continues.

That is very upsetting about the poor Vietnamese people. I read a transcript of one of them sending phone messages home saying they couldn't breathe and they were dying. That really brings the tragedy of whole thing home. And the powerlessness of anyone to do anything about that tragic situation at that moment in time.
