What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Hi John, Amazing what man can do when he sets his mind to the scars of the past!
@lindisfel , @JohnEGreen and many others especially @gennepher - read the passage as and woman- I too feel your sense of lost vim and vigour with the passage of time (in my case a pride thing) BUT I'm in awe of what you all do. For now I'll just truncate this speech (as per the advert):
What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world. The paragon of animals.

I am glad to read that yesterday was so tranquil and uplifting for you. It is also interesting to read about the time this WOE (tempted to add ful) may take to produce results. Like you, I struggle to see how it is helping me much but unlike you I don't feel I have made the progress to feel I could recommend it to others. I don't enjoy it but some folks say I'm stubborn enough to keep going - I don't recognise that description of myself:angelic:
The slowness of this working has been a bit of a shock, but does make sense. Dr Roy Taylor got his best results with people who were not long diagnosed. People like me who were much more broken didn't respond very well (if at all) and it seems it is exactly the same with LCHF and Keto.

It does work if you are really broken but takes a really long time - years and years. So I now feel re-energised and will keep at it to continue the healing. So instead of feeling a failure - I now feel normal (or at least normal for Norfolk).

This healing is definitely taking place. Not on injected insulin for ages now. My DN said that this in itself is pretty miraculous. OK - she didn't quite say those exact words, but something pretty similar.

After 4 years dawn phenomenon has completely gone. My right foot was moving towards high risk and completely numb after 4 years of injecting insulin. After 4 years of lowish carb, then low carb and now keto - my right foot is fully functioning and is now at low risk. As I really appreciate having feet I am so pleased I will keep them.

Eyes are taking longer to heal, but there are signs that they are as injections are now months apart.

The downside is that I am much better on 15g carbs a day and would much prefer to be on 20g a day or even a bit higher - but just knowing that this won't be forever (even though it might seem like it) has really cheered me up.

I do recommend this to other people, but will now add the caveat that it is not a fast fix - depending on how broken they are.

Perhaps humankind is better, if not somewhat lengthy?

Anyone can understand what a difference this lifestyle has made to you and why you would be an advocate. I have also read others whose life was intolerable and heading for grave consequences. Their stories and yours would make anyone feel LC/Keto was the way forward. I wonder if those not so "broken" don't see dramatic changes so don't feel the same belief. Personally, I'm ok with the theory of LC - it is just the wacky food some would have me believe is fit for humans What the ?? is cabbage casserole?:arghh:

I think you are right. If you are at risk of losing a foot or your eyesight you might feel differently than someone who is less broken.

I must confess though that I really struggled in the beginning. I would be waiting for my coffee at the coffee shop and would have a real battle with myself when faced with the rows of delicious cakes. I had to silently repeat in my head over and over again the following words 'what would I prefer - to keep my eyesight and feet or eat this piece of cake'.

Feet and eyes always won. Although I must admit that the Panorama programme really hit home hard the reality of T2D and it did make it easier to change my diet - I had horrible flashbacks from the programme for months after I saw it.

Thank goodness I didn't have to eat cabbage casserole - I think I would have drawn the line there.

Hug for cakegate - not a problem for me. In general the usual off limits food wasn't a problem for me except fruit, really good bread and being a Fenman carrots. The issue was and remains how I make the allowed foods edible. Meat without gravy, or a sauce heavy on passata, onion and garlic doesn't work for me. All the cauli rice/courgetti etc are wasted on me due to that. Have worked out a celeriac lasagne and celeriac Dauphinoise LC/Keto Chinese and Indian sauces/recipes don't work hence salad, salad, salad. I can't abide butter on veg or meat and cream goes in coffee or on trifle/Eton mess. Over the five years this WOE has turned me off of bacon, wine and much cooked food.

I think you deserve a medal. I am not sure I would have the strength of character to stick with it if I felt the same way you do about low carb.

good evening all :)

4.4 today

Shades of George Formby today - turned out nice again ;)

loads of visitors about for the bank holiday Monday and for some reason lots of them with new cars :sorry:
Mr gee got some plants put out in the garden and I went round again with the weedkiller spray targeting the sea buckthorn seedlings :) then we had a good walk round the village.

Hope your day is treating you kindly :)

@Alien Aspie - somehow I suspect it's going to be a while before I achieve artistic Wu Wei :hilarious:

@dunelm - interesting range of trees from your new practice regime, and commiserations for the aches :) my gran used to say 'it'll be grand when its done'

@gennepher - guardian cat spirit, I like it :) and that's a nice landscape, mountains are far from simple to render :)

@Muddy Cyclist - the finished work is very true to the sketch and those watery fields and sky are lovely :)

Art bit -
still pondering getting a new brush, not quite sure which, I'm thinking a 10 or a 12 round, the one that is balding is a 10.

this is the picture of roses I mentioned last week, I began with the watercolour pencils and fiddled with it until it ended up overworked, might have another go to see if I can improve;)

Nasty stuff that diesel so glad you were relatively unscathed. Bikes can be replaced - fuel stations and the exit roads can sometimes be dire - even putting your side stand down in some places can be iffy.

as most bikers have found at some service stations..:wideyed:

awful stuff.

Goof morning everyone from a dark and quiet house in brummy Birmingham

The wonder wheel of carefully selected items on an Indian takeaway menu still decided to be awkward at 5.7 this am

Been up for over an hour - this builders mate malarky is a bit taxing - especially after a 180 mile dash to get here by 0900 yesterday morning. So far I have wired in and tested four double sockets, laid out the cables for the installation of 10 LED downlights for installation today (a set of 4 and a set of 6), and helped son put up a stud wall. LED lights are double insulated so don’t need an earth - but - I will run the earth through connecting boxes for continuity and also to not infuriate anyone if earthed appliances are needed in future. I am not looking forward to today’s fun an frolicks - putting the plasterboard up on the ceilings - ah well.

I have a book called Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting - useful for practicing techniques and as a general learning tool. I am working on trees - so here is one that I did last week - another tomorrow.

Hope everyone is well - I ache like mad - must find some koffy.

Fbg 8.1

I forgot to eat yesterday because I was trying to sort something out.

Haven't thought about a painting yet. I usually have some thoughts the day before.

So in the meantime a photo of his Lordship who still guards me every night. My Pixel 3A phone has something called night sight. It means you can point it at something in the pitch black, and if there is something with a slightly light tone, which I cannot even see, then it instructs you to hold it still, and it takes about 5 seconds. Then it produced a photo you couldn't even see.

I have photographed his Lordship in the night before. He sits on my chest under my chin. And I can feel his nose and whiskers examining my face in the night. He never appears to go to sleep in the night. You can sometimes see the glint in his eye.

So I carefully reached for my phone, and took this photo. This was around 3am this morning. For some reason he appears on guard all night. You can see my pink face behind him. His whiskers were touching my chin there.

He doesn't go to sleep until it is fully daylight, then he literally sleeps the sleep of the dead in the day, his eyes firmly shut.

Here he is at 3am...

Now to think about my painting....

Always on duty..
Always protecting.

bless him

Morning all. Cold enough for heavy duty pyjama bottoms last night and not too wonderful today. Both well outside my comfort zone. I do have an fbg but whether it is either of the 5.3 on Tee 2 or 4.8 on Libre is doubtful, especially in this alternative truths world. @Muddy Cyclist the last painting posted is very much in my comfort zone so thank you so much. @dunelm father of the year deeds there and on a Lesser festival for Aidan as well - what with the artwork quite saintly yourself. @jjraak thank you for the post. Interestingly, that issue I dealt with in an almost zen like calm. I trusted the medics all along. With T2 I don't have that confidence. At the back of my mind I think I'm being played with LC. Enjoy Bank Holiday folks as one can't help feeling civil servants won't be the only ones drenched by the hard rain that's gonna fall.

agree, think there are some things we just have to accept , their skills far exceed ours to second guess.

But when it comes down to food marketing companies being the key player, then you are very right to be wary.

Busy day, decided to start to decorate Mrs MCs study, 12' by 12' just glossing left to do, two coats of emulsion all the undercoating and shelves up, level, finished thank goodness. Left little time for art so just a simple quick Japanese Style watercolour of Mrs MCs Bonsai Larch....
A4 about 15 minutes...

I took advantage of the half price deals at restaurants and such last day, so myself Judith and Melody went for a meal out today first since February bit nervous but was OK except went a bit mad had a rather carby meal followed by a strawberry shortcake sundae bad boy aren't I expected result came to pass with a BG about 10.something or other the strange thing is three hours later I was down at 3,6 and feeling definitely hypo would you credit it.

I did have two glasses of wine.
