What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Jackie Stewart was the driver.

Jimmy Stewart Hollywood actor & WW11 hero

The movie
I think I remember seeing that film, but only vaguely. Jimmy Stewart, the racing driver, was Jackie Stewart's brother. Never quite as famous as Jackie but well known around Bowling (Dunbartonshire) along the road from where we lived for a few years, and pretty successful as well.

A life affirming film.
Indeed.

Speaking from brutal personal experience....(not mine, I'm just the onlooker, sadly )

Just the sadness of being on the sidelines, observing the intense effects of just one person, thinking their existence didn't matter ..impacted those I love.

Each & every one of of us, is a link in someone's life.

A vital link that our passing leaves our closest kin to weather the waves of sadness at a loss of one held so dear, and taken away, far too soon.

But in the circumstances of the film, those who are cut adrift by such choices, struggle for years & sadly decades, questioning what else THEY could have done to prevent the loss.

When the only answer is 'nothing, sweetie '.

How does the family, deal with that or how does one trying to provide any comfort to them answer that never ending, unanswerable question.?

Looks a great route, at least it is on the flat....
Sounds like you know the real nature of a canal side ramble.

It was on the flat mostly.

But i have to admit, I fiddled with the bikes gear linkage a few days before and didn't get it right, so in my rush to be out, I didn't have a reliable change in the lower gears, so the BIG climbs defeated me.

The bridges don't seem much to look at, but it looked liked seasoned commuters took the climbs as a real challenge, and they left many red faced with the effort, so I didn't feel so bad.

The ride was however, most enjoyable none the less .

A grand day in Cumbria, dry and sunny and for once we will have a warmer day than the other side of the Pennines .
Shopping this am at Lidl it's the only proper supermarket locally other than a really expensive Co-op.

Food issues are causing me problems after meals with massive blood pressure changes. The drop is causing me to go to sleep after lunch and drowsiness which I do not pick up from till after 1500. A similar problem happens after breakfast, but not so apparent after our evening meal.

I could not find my flask last night. Then I remembered I'd left it in the garden on the swing. So I open the back door with trepidation and I made a heck of a lot of noise. Hopefully frightening anything away.
I retrieve my flask and got in quickly....

From nighttime wildlife
Foxes & Badger & Cats (Cat Marmalade tries to protect what is left of the cat biscuits)

The fox and badger visit.
The badger appears to be trying his best to climb onto the swing. He hurts his back leg again as he falls to the ground. He is too heavy to be doing such activities. But he was ok the following night.

Finally cat Marmalade sits on the cat biscuits and does not move for a few hours. This means no one can eat the cat biscuits on the swing. Just before dawn he leaves.

I painted the lighthouse in Procreate as usual, then I put it through an app which had this effect. And I like it because it looks like they are crashing waves coming up to the Lighthouse...

Time for a cuppa and a quick nap before I start my day.

Have your best kind of day.

....... "Our Green Garden" Episode 6 with Richard Attenborough
" ...And here, from our secluded viewpoint, we can see the slightest of movements......

and yes, there she is....the mad biddy

so rare to actually capture her in the darkness, more normally seen in the daytime, where while she's clearly the dominant species, she mixes freely with the other denizens of this glorious space of safety for so many species.

Something must have disturbed her, to be venturing out this late
Here we see her peeking out of her lair, stopped, she sniffs the air for dangers ..

And OMG, there it is.
The first recording of
The 'Crescendo '
Rarely captured by any film crew.

It's the main characteristic of mad biddies.

Once enraged enough, they gird themselves and make an almighty racket.
Common to all biddies when overcharged or enduring bad service,

Terrifying to all as, it marks the beginning of their headlong assault on the senses of any foes unwise enough to enrage them ..few escape from such encounters unscathed.

The stillness of the night air shattered, as the other animals of the garden, at first standing in silence, now scatter for their lives like wildebeest at a Serengeti watering hole, at the booming approach.

Even the feared 'Swing Badger ' beats a hasty retreat.

She stops, halfway through her run,.has the rush exhausted her ....?

No... Something glistening in the shadows, seems to have caught her eye.

She glances around, sniffing the air once more for the scent of any danger...

Satisfied that none dare challenge her domination of the garden

She collects her spoils, a flask it seems...and saunters back to her lair...

Where likely, some anointed creatures might share the safety of her nest...such is the magnificence of this creature,
Some call the Protector of the many ..."

Yep, agree & very effective too

I think it look like waves running down , their energy dissipated after striking the lighthouse .

Nice

Ah, wasn't aware of the brother.

Good to know
Every day's a school day

Morning all from a chilly L.A. on JKP's birthday. A day to say it with flowers, cake and cards - one of which is my comfort zone. MIL to look after - she has a chest infection - school run and feeding later so exploring what this town has to offer has been interesting and revealing. Thanks for the good wishes yesterday. The scan went well but the results are the thing. @gennepher thanks for sharing the latest creative. @jjraak I assume that masterpiece is in the style of Attenborough. I'm noticing the one day delay from Monday which yesterday's low cal day - logistical nightmare. Not helped by taking grandson swimming at short notice - I come over all prickly if I have to eat after 6.00 pm (another reason why I really, really, really need to lean on The Lord when the Wales thing happens) Enjoy your day and a prayer that I've judged how to negotiate the day as well as I/we can for JKP. Apparently, you can't just (only) throw money at some things. Who knew? Lyrics _ very much my comfort zone

Happy Birthday JKP. You have as a good a day as you can as well Ian.

Just this moment noticed that I am no longer described as a "well known member" but as "Expert". When did I become an expert at anything? Jill of all trades me, and master of none, that's me.

FBG (4.30 am) 11.3. Eased a little to 11.1 before breakfast. Checking again in a short time.

Lots of cooking/baking to do today so I'd better get on with it. First I have to fix my legs (ointment and surgical hose - messy and painful to get the stockings on) but am procrastinating because I don't really want to do it, but I must. So, square the shoulders, take a deep breath and just do it! OK - here I go....

I gave a winner for your square the shoulders comment - huge respect. After being part of this community for 13 years you are an expert even by osmosis. Today God has ticked all the boxes I could expect given all the circumstances: florist arranged a bouquet JKP liked; artisanal bakes and coffee shop now open Wednesday to Saturday so took JKP to select an aspirational cake and hog roast sausage roll for herself and MIL - coffee for JKP. Two wonderful Millennial gels I'm delighted to support. Right here, right now it's as good as I can make it (present was bought long ago). If temptation looked like temptation no one would succumb - very adept at twisting the better angels of our nature - so there is bound to be some serious "if only" at some stage. As good a day as I can, warts and all.
