What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Spoke to the diabetes nurse and she was delighted to report my HBA1c of 56 - not so far from the 51.2 that I worked out. And it was 3 weeks ago that the blood was tested so it might have come down a big more. She is going to alter my prescription so that I can get the different version of Tresiba, so that's fine. Now I need to ask the GP about possible anaemia. The sun is shining very brightly today but I am cold (3 layers cold). I did warm up in the hospital yesterday, but that was due to a hypo.

Believe it or not, I think our resident starlings are nesting again. When we went out yesterday there was a load of discarded nesting material on the path outside the door and the parent birds were carrying fresh nesting material to the hole in the overhang. One of the young ones (presumably theirs) was sitting on the fence begging for food but just got a peck for its pains and flew off. Another of those kids who want to live off the bank of mum and dad!
Winner for the HBA1c - the girl Ann done good. Hug for feeling cold even with 3 layers.

Morning all. How you 'doin? Sunny and almost mild here but quite a breeze keeping down the air temperature so far. Some don't like the promised more mild days ahead but after almost 10 months of grot I'm happier. Drip Trip over safely for me but the (inevitable (imho) fall out from "that event") continues. JKP did try some water biscuits yesterday but No 3 son is badly affected and MIL may now have a gout flare up. She won't drink so that could be "fun" but she has ordered medicine. Modern life is goodish (quite a funny programme). I'm collecting a summer weight double duvet from a Little Waitrose at a garage cum Macdonald's (of course there's one here.). I year guarantee on a duvet :hilarious: I've been/am sleeping in a separate bedroom while JKP is crook but the duvet is a monster and we gave the boys the lightweight double ones. I'm cooking (well, pressed some pre-programmed buttons - no Alexa link yet) a roast in the bag chicken before the expiry date - over doing it just to ensure no more bad tums. It's only chicken so no loss if it is not very edible - the dogs will have a treat at worst. @gennepher how lovely to give even wounded bees a name and care. Thanks for the videos. A patient fox and loving hunter gatherer Magpie. As you know, I like the kaleidoscopes so a big thank you. @SlimLizzy hug for feeling groggy and the hornets nest and but winner for training Kiki. BBC news seems to suggest France has higher food price than UK on what they consider a basic shop - common may suit their selection better in many ways. Whatever you do today do it well and to the glory of who or whatever you feel appropriate. I'mma cooking my salmon - just because.
Sorry to hear that your family members are still suffering from that dreadful lurgi. Surely it must end soon. Hug too for MIL. Gout is so painful.

Have been feeling a bit groggy in the mornings for a few weeks now, worse this morning- kept having to sit down after small tasks. Actually considered cancelling French lesson.
@gennebumble bee nests are ok. We have one above the back door, but I was horrified to discover we also have a hornets nest in the front wall of the house. It's right behind a drainpipe and there are bits of pointing missed. Not going to be easy to get at.
Kiki has perfected her trick of giving me kisses . I was trying to teach her high five, but somehow it has morphed into a gentle pat to my face. .. going with the flow here.
Winner is for teaching Kiki to kiss you @SlimLizzy

I need a sign outside my bedroom door for those bumble bees 'Not this way, just a couple of feet over to the right'.

Hornets - I hope you can deal with them effectively....

Thank you so very much @ianpspurs
If something hangs around for more than a day, it usually gets a name...

I may have wrongly accused that trip over the lurgy as there is a bug doing the rounds at the school No 1 son's children attend but a bug extending from Winchester to Ely is unusual. MIL hadn't thought her toe pain could be gout until I suggested that and she doesn't/didn't have her medicine on repeat. She can't take naproxen nor co-codamol both of which we are well stocked. God bless you for your concern.

Good morning everyone on what will hopefully be a warmer day than yesterday. Girl In The Bubble has a vaccination in a while and then it’s off the the cafe for toasted muffin and perhaps a glass of milk before she heads off to school for the afternoon session. Art bit, moving along. Have a smashing day if you can. My koffy is long since been consumed but the cafe calls.

Magpie steals the cat's treat - and then fills his beak again with cat biscuits

Creative is a kaleidoscope in Laboscope of Ox-eye daisies, which are in my garden.

Me? There is a bumblebee nest/gathering in my attic above my bedroom again. And I have another red-tailed bumblebee whose wings are deformed and he/she cannot fly. I always have at least one of these every year. It was busily racing on the ground a hundred miles a hour round my feet. So I picked it up and popped it on some flowers, but it is expending too much energy to last long.

The red-tailed bumblebee that had very deformed wings some years ago who lasted a few weeks with my help was Sophie. I got very attached to her! I could always spot where she was in the garden. She was always within 2 or 3 metres of my bedroom door. And she died one night outside my bedroom door...

Right, what does today bring?

At the moment it is a cup of tea, some thinking and research on a problem, and I have to register a pile of postcards, and on top of me asleep is a living black fur blanket who is exhausted after guarding the swing from Foxy all night (but lost the cat biscuits war as soon as he came in to guard me...).

I could so easily go back to sleep.

Oh, and more baby sparrows have left the nest for the first time...

Have your best kind of day...

Hope your research/thinking is fruitful and you solve whatever the problem is. Thanks for the lovely, cheerful daisies - quite brighten the morning. What a lovely story about the handicapped bumble bee - are you a fan of St Francis?

KKiki and i touch nose to nose , I call it a kiss. Here she is in catch-me-if-you-can mode on one of our evening walks. Am a little concerned that she likes to play on the road, but she is also super aware of traffic so hopefully will be ok.20230604_220447.jpg
Hornets - that will be up to MrSlim ( who is actually slimming down nicely atm. We both are. I am now at target weight and belt back to using all the holes so happy with that)
Hornets well few possibilities but no definite plan as yet.

Since this thread is under the general chat umbrella and next year's US election will massively impact the world this is fascinating. The perceived arrogance of some sections of the great and the good also impinges on how we in UK ended up with Brexit and Johnson (ironically ultra arrogant, elite and entitled) and much else in my opinion. The story of the Mississippi canteen queue takes some believing. Enjoy or not

I read that. So, how many Red Bulls per day would one need for each extra year?
Indeed . :hilarious:

However I noticed the drop off point data is enormous.

Be nice to think if it 'could' be effective in helping moderate diabetes, that a test similar to checking B12 levels, might be a good step forward....mmhh.

How & how much is delivered I suspect won't be via red bulls..

But given the shakes went to private contractors & coke sponsor DUK, I wouldn't be entirely surprised ...lol.

Interesting conversation. I believe that those contributors were all to be believed but, perhaps only saw part of the story, or perhaps were not able to recognise what we are now told is racism, or being too ready to see unintended racist remarks. Being an old-fashioned, non reconstructed, fuddy duddy there are many occasions when I can't see that any racism is intended when offense has been taken. I could never see myself trying to exclude anyone from anything, or criticise anyone or think ill of anyone, on the grounds of ethnic origins, only on the grounds of behaviour (and even then, I would think that behaviour I would not take part in is none of my business and so would not criticise) - that is I would only criticise behaviour which hurt or harmed another person or creature.

People are too quick to take offense these days, and too willing to give offense, it seems to me. That applies to people of whatever background and whatever country. It can sometimes be difficult to realise that something that might offend me, if I let it, is not intended to be offensive but might be evidence of a different cultural background to mine and I would hope that any errors I make in that vein would be accepted in the same way.

The danger, of course, is when people to whom we have given authority and power, then use it to cause harm. But then, in Europe and America we get the politicians we deserve (that doesn't always apply across the world, of course). Why do we elect them? Why do we even listen to any group or individual who tells us what we should support? Have we lost the ability to think for ourselves?

This is why I encourage Em to be what she wants to be, not follow the flock. She actualy revels in her differences from the norm. Have to say that her recent decision to allow her hair to be coloured bright red by her elder sister and to have one side of her hair cropped very short and "sculpted" with patterns, did not meet with my approval. My opinion is that she's too young at 10 to go down this route. Nevertheless, she chose it and other than reminding her that frequent hair treatments can damage her hair, I refrained from voicing any disapproval. There is a dividing line though, between trying to do guide our young folk and trying to tell adults what they should be doing (within the law).

Oh, do tell me to shut up and not go on about this!

We have some disconcerted starlings. Neil acted quickly when he realised that the pair above the kitchen window were building a new nest (and had cleared out the old one) and he put new ventilator covers over the holes into the overhang. There are about 20 starlings sitting on the fence and occasionally flying up to try to get in. But that's it - they have been evicted. I feel rather sorry about that but we really couldn't let it continue. I would rather have waited until we could put together a nesting box for them but he had to act when the nests were cleared.

I seem to have caught Em's cold. Maybe that's why I've needed 3 layers. Sore throat and nose, which I can cope with quite easily but it's getting to my chest (always a bit dodgy since covid) so I've resorted to paracetemol to subdue the symptoms. Can't sit back in the chair with my legs up just now and can't take to my bed - breathing is harder that way. Probably be gone in a couple of days - the cold, not me. I don't have any intentions of leaving this world just yet - too much left to do, especially at my, now, slower pace.

Nighttime trail camera.
Cat Jade has coveted middle swing seat, but is nervous & leaves.
Fox comes.
Then 3 badgers!
Finally for next 4 hours fox jumps on & off swing & eats all cat biscuits.
Trail camera battery ran out before dawn, because of the fox repeatedly jumping on and off the swing...

No other cats came to the swing for food that night, so something was making them nervous. But the stray cats did go in my kitchen for their nighttime snacks. The trail camera in the kitchen told me that.

Creative is a kaleidoscope in Laboscope App, of a beautiful scented pink rose in my garden.

Some messages to do this morning, and get back to enjoy this beautiful blue-skied sunny day...

Have your best day.

Just finishing my cuppa tea first...
