Darker skins are "designed" to protect from the sun and, in these colder temperate climates, interferes with Vitamin D being produced as a result. Lighter coloured skin doesn't do such a good job of protecting from the sun's rays so Asiatic men tend to suffer less from Vit D deficiency. Many Asiatic women cover their bodies and never have the beneficial effect that they might otherwise enjoy.

Malt and cod liver oil - yummy! In the late 40's/early 50's malt and cod liver oil were all the thing and then somebody brought out vit C tablets - can't remember the name of them - lovely tart orange flavour. We didn't need sweets, we had our supplements. That's not to say we refused sweets when they became available. Great days when Mum could buy a Mars bar and cut it into thin slices to share between herself, Dad and us 2 kids. I think Mars bars must have been bigger then than they are now.

Edited to add the first paragraph and to fix typos.
Good morning@Annb. Did you mean Haliborange tablets? I used to have them as a child. They are still available in various formats. My mum also gave me Virol which was much more palitable than the spoonful of cod liver oil or Scott's emulsion that grandma made me swallow! Heave!

Morning all from Sopping McSoppingplace. My fbg was 5.1 at why do I need to wake at stupid hundred hours then 5.4 at around 8.25. Both are sub-optimal for the best version of me I will ever see again but not dangerous. @dunelm shame about those jollies being cancelled but proud parents and time with grandchildren should offset that. Thanks for sharing the wonderful creative. @gennepher enjoy the strawberries and cream - we still have some growing in our trug - and thanks for sharing the superbly drawn tree. @Krystyna23040 coffee and cake at the vets sounds good. #1 son's partner brings home pheasants shot by the practice boss - more to my taste. @Annb surely you should have looked up procrastinative another day? Interesting discussion about childhood supplements nothing would have persuaded me to take. As for the modern day ones my oncologists can barely suppress their laughter at such suggestions and their views on Tim Spector are that when he assembles enough evidence we'll listen so don’t take him too seriously. but as you're doing fine we'll indulge you. Decorations in place in the lounge and a Menorah in the front window, outside lights to follow. Splendid job by JKP, 2 yo old grandson (despite frequently hiding pieces in a dolls house) and 4 yo granddaughter while i watched the football barely disturbed. Outside lights may require me to assist. Some images attached but note there is no Dragon so accuracy is missing. Enjoy your day.

That's the ones. I would have eaten them as sweets if I'd been allowed to. I've always liked citrus flavours. I only vaguely remember the orange juice supplied to children just after the war - not so much the taste but I can picture the bottles it came in. For some reason, I also can picture the tins of National Dried Milk but we didn't have that for long into my memory capacity.

Good morning everyone on a tropical 5°C and drizzly start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Early up due to an early to bed last night after an exhausting day muttering about tinsel town. Still, Mrs Miggins has done an excellent job and only six strings of lights used - must be a record. I managed to do the front hallway without anything needing adjusting by the management. Earlier, we walked into town and back for a pre-decorating leg stretch, carefully avoiding eye contact with the festive jumper brigade. Daughter came round for a chat. She has been offered a directorship at the precision engineering company where she earns a crust and wanted to go over stuff like tax, pension contributions, alphabet shares, dividends and more importantly for me and Mrs Miggins, potential extra grandparent duties- so much excitement. This last bit may put the kibosh on our planned world scuba diving tour, base diving from the Troll Wall and running with the bulls in Pamplona. Art bit. First go with my new bamboo dip pen. Hope your day is kind to you. Lists - I only do shopping lists - I forget stuff otherwise and then end up like a dog spotting a squirrel when I see something that I previously did not know existed. Note: Mrs Miggins does not like Nduja, Pule Donkey Cheese and turned her nose up at whale burgers when we were in Norway last. Now, where is that civet cat assisted koffy?

Lovely painting @dunelm . The new bamboo dip pen worked really well.

I wouldn't take the tablets but hot orange - possibly sunquick but defo super concentrated - was a go to as an adult every winter. Probably why I ended up here :bigtears:

Statins are also artery calcifying. Thats how they are supposed to stabilise choresterol formation!
I would not take em myself.
D.
I rather stupidly took statins without doing any research. 21 days later I had sustained very significant muscle damage.

The consultant said it take 4 years to repair the damage. It actually took 7 years. In my medical records I am logged as statin intolerant.

Not something to jest about but at least I'm not statin intolerant. Odd as I'm almost completely intolerant of most people and social situations. O/T dangerous around here but that story sleighed me. C'mon, open goal there.

6.7 this outside Christmas lights putting up morning. All done as the rain actually stopped and the thermometer has crept above freezing. A lot more rain expected, tho no snow here, why?
The grandkids want it, and Mrs L has ordered it.
Chores to be done and shopping bought. Too busy to hang around.

My best wishes to you all as always.

Because of my RH, I'm allergic (intolerant) to everything including statins, tried once for about four days, and my calf muscles seized.
When suggested by new doctors, I refer them to look at my history!
No! Again no!
I have to have tablets or meds that don't have lactose or sugar. I even have to ask if flu or covid jabs are safe!!!

Congratulations for Daughter.

Oh dear, your amazing plans put on hold for the next decade or so @dunelm
Just think of the excitement in the mid 2030's when you'll be able to resume these ambitious plans....

A great little sketch.
Did you enjoy using the bamboo nib pen?
I've just remembered, about 12 years ago, a friend showed me how to make these bamboo nib pens, and gave me a couple he had made. I know where they should be, but I cannot access them until I tidy the garage again. They were not my favourite thing to use.

I did enjoy the strawberries and cream, thank you.

And thank you for the tree compliment....

Not just my imagination/memory then? I seem to think they were longer and higher than the normal ones I see in the shops these days. I have seen one which was longer - a king sized one, I suppose - but it wasn't as thick as I remember them. If only we could have realised that a couple of very thin slices was enough and we wouldn't eventually want a whole one to ourselves. It was never for the chocolate that I wanted them, but for the caramel.

Nope not your imagination @Annb
They were longer, thicker, higher, wider, the lot. They were 6d when I managed to find some money (change people had dropped...) to buy one.
The advert words on the the black & white telly were some to do with Work Rest and Play, and showed a Postie having a break from his round and getting his teeth into a Mars bar...much more substantial they were...

Fbg 6.7

An absolutely foul day here. Horrible driving rain. I got soaked just going outside to feed the birdies and cats...still trying to get warm again, hence my photo of my creative being done from my bed...

Wildlife nighttime cameras.
Badger tries to get on swing again...
54secs

Creative. Done from my bed. Too cold to be anywhere else...I am still drying out from from the bitter cold of earlier...
Blankets piled on. Midnight was under my chin on my chest. I couldn't access the sketchpad. I ended up using Midnight as an arm rest, and holding my Pentel Brush Pen by the very end to reach the paper, and the sketch pad was resting on my lime green neck cushion...I had virtually no control over the brush pen, it was just moving this way and that. But it made for a delicate light painting...

All the small birds are busily eating despite the that icy rain.

Going to make a hot flask of tea. I have stuff to do out of bed, but what's the betting I return back to bed...

Might make some cheese on toast. I found some sourdough bread at the Polish shop, which agrees with me, and the FODMAP diet...I need some more...

Have your best day...

Ah yes, I remember the adverts now you mention it. "A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play." Odd thing was, nobody ever questioned that a sugar hit was what was needed to keep a body working through their fatigue.

Thank you @ianpspurs. Smashing lights display and good to see Santa is firmly held in stasis until the big day. Yo ho ho for the procrastinative.

Thank you @gennepher - we are still on for another cruise round the Norwegian fjords though so not all plans thwarted. I am enjoying the bamboo nib pens. I need to practice pressure as I think that lightness of touch may work better especially with wet on wet. Will tidying up the garage have to wait a while until it warms up again?
