What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

During my first four years at this wonderful establishment, I was on the end of a cane, a metal ruler, a chalkboard eraser, a plimsole, a t square, chalk thrown at me, hair pulled, slapped around the head, elbowed, threatened and numerous detentions.
On my report, a snooty teacher of physics who clearly resented teaching someone from my background to be in his class. I will be glad to not be teaching this boy in my class next term/year. I got my O levels in chemistry and physics. Strange that?
But I was nowhere near the worst behaved.
I was actually awarded full school colours, mainly for sport but for my history paper I did. An A level in fifth year.
It all changed when in my fifth year, the school went comprehensive.
No more corporal punishment, no mortar board, no cloak, no snobs in charge. Quite a few of the elite kids left for other grammar schools that didn't come under local authorities.

First part of the post deserves a hug at the very least but the exam passes and (early if I read correctly) A Level deserve a winner +

A level history.
O level physics, chemistry. Geography.
CSE levels Maths and English and art, tho I needed that for my proposed future in printing.

Not familiar with Hairy Bittercress, but we will be eating wood sorrel later in the year.

She didn't enjoy or appreciate the process, but I am already seeing a reduction in scratching, so am assuming she is more comfortable. Your sympathy should more properly be directed to the person with tooth and claw marks, who after all was only trying to help.

And quite a few who have preferences maybe not intolerance to not having dairy, and won't go near spreads or cheeses. #4 son had chronic asthma in his primary school years and often spent time in the hospital.
His breathing got better, for some reason, during covid.!!!
Grandkid #5 #7 has asthma but only mild.
I just wonder if, like #2 #6 if ADHD is also hereditary as middle son wasn't diagnosed but hyperactive.
But plenty of similar issues throughout the wider family. Of which male alcoholism is a huge issue.
And haemochromitosis is also.
And of course, heart issues as in most families.

In her case the asthma is linked to her gluten intolerance. Apparently a little known symptom is a chronic cough. Often misdiagnosed as asthma and requiring a different medication in the inhaler. As she has improved now using a more standard one.
 
On my husband's side of the family there are several members with auto-immune conditions and food intolerances. Tom's parents never showed any signs of such problems but Tom had very serious arthritis which is said to be an auto-immune disease, his sister has arthritis, his other sister had severe colitis (not an immune response as far as I know but another form of health problem). Tom's nephew had really severe eczema and was found to be unable to tolerate egg or orange. He developed bronchial asthma. Another nephew had severe colitis, like his mother. Two nieces have crohn's disease. One of them had lupus. Neil had serious exzema as a toddler and went on to develop serious allergies and intolerances and then crohn's disease. Alistair has a lesser issue of IBS. Of the next generation, one has crohn's disease and Em has a persistent "cold" which is clearly a reaction to something but they haven't yet managed to identify to what. There has to be a genetic link in these conditions but we were told that certainly crohn's disease has no inherited factor - it just happens sometimes. Don't quite believe that. At least there has to be an inherited predisposition to the IBS/Colitis/crohn's issues and a link between the various intolerances. I don't suppose my genes helped any with the inheritance the next 2 generations found themselves with.

Odd, though, that these intolerances don't seem to have shown themselves very much in the past. They were there, clearly, but not to the same extent and not understood and either ignored or misdiagnosed.
 
Good morning everyone on a wet but hopefull for dry start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. No reading today - just a whim, or as Karl Denver would have it, Wimoweh. I know it’s Friday but as it’s a whimsical start, I chose the pill marked “Sun” in a new strip of meds. Small pleasures. Task for today is to try and prize the pages apart from The Girl In The Bubble’s colouring book after she had at 15 or so pages yesterday with poster paints. Art bit - mixed media - brush, blockbuster video card and two types of ink - black Indian ink applied with a bamboo dip pen and some new white ink applied with a normal dip pen. Just messing about really. Anyhow, hope your day is a good one. Must surely be time for some koffy.

I appear to have acquired yet another black cat in the night...

Black cat, Amy was in the bungalow being fed this morning. She still, after months and months will not allow me to touch her... She will not entertain the slow blink, but always gives me the death stare. But the last couple of months she has not showed any animosity towards me, so I took a chance yesterday morning and reached my hand towards her... big mistake... I now have bruises and puncture marks on my hand (she has the Midnight clout)... yet she will approach me and even rub her head against my hand, but I am not allowed to make any movement towards her. I think she must've had some trauma in the past. I must warn my daughter when she comes not to approach her....

I went out this morning to feed black and white cat, Jade. But she was not on the swing. In her place was a young black cat. How did Amy get to the swing so quickly? So I went back into bungalow and there is Amy feeding. Back to the swing and there's this black cat still sitting there on Jade's fur blanket. The black cat shot off as soon as I went out there.... but came back immediately as soon as I put Jade's food down for her, and had come in...

My swing appears to be a sanctuary for stray or lost cats. The badger wants that sanctuary as well....

I don’t eat rice at all, but I eat lot of curry cauliflower, okra and bitter melon.

I know the feeling of only intending to have a little. I do the same and instantly regret that I weakened and gave in @jjraak
BUT I have found if I eat whatever that extra is very very slowly, say over 15 mins or half an hour, that extra I eat, barely raises my blood sugars...and I can get away with it that way... I have done this a few times...
 
Wonderful! The company which seems to have a Scottish Government contract to organise the grants towards the new heating system has just phoned to say they need proof of identity AND they need to see the house deeds (which I have stashed away in the big clear-up and I'll have to find them now - such as they are for this is a croft and the ownership is different to either feu or freehold. Why on earth have they left it this far into the process before needing to know who owns the property? Seems a tad incompetent to me. Better go and look for the "deeds". NO. Breakfast first, then look for them.

I said the naughty words for you @Annb referring back to my experience with this grant for the central heating boiler etc etc...I still have a lot of naughty words over my whole experience...

You're right. I don't usually suffer from any form of stress but this whole experience so far has even made me stressful. What if they decide we aren't eligible or can't prove our eligibility? The builders are due to start on Monday. Will there be a hold put on the job while it's all worked out? Will they just go ahead anyway? How much extra will I have to pay? (not got much left anyway so can't up what i am due to pay). Why is everybody being so inefficient? Modern times, I suppose. It's what is expected but I'm a bit too long in the tooth to cope with it calmly. Like a swan, calm and serene on the surface but legs going like the clappers to keep afloat. Not that I have any other similarity to a swan. Calm down, Ann. We'll work it out.
 
Morning all on an April showers day here in the Exotic (steady autocorrerct) East. Start of the county championship cricket season and super salmon salad day. The more serious local cricket leagues start around JKP's birthday - 20th - which could cause some issues back in the day. Old romantic that I am I never asked her to make teas on her birthday (I never quite had the courage). Some early games had to be shortened due to the cold. I remember one where I wore a thermal vest, white rugby shirt and four sweaters. Hot drinks were brought out a few times and blue hands were badly bruised. @gennepher and @dunelm thank you both for sharing your art and @gennepher hug for the injuries. @Annb hug for the stress, let's hope all goes well from now on and the stress is worth it. @jjraak there is no such thing as perfect adherence to Elsie’s peculiar ways and you have shared your slip. My Easter treats have been a small piece of roast potato, 15 gms of Hot cross Bunattone, a 9 gms celebration chocolate and 100 gms of baked beans but on separate days. Go well today folks.
