What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

New hot water and heating system incoming allegedly as a priority and covered by the cover we have with British Gas. Once done, time for insurance to look at the ceiling and carpet. All three of those were upgrades we wanted. This has happened in summer during a warmish period. Truly God moves in mysterious ways. I would highly recommend the top level British Gas Homecare cover to anyone but do your own due diligence. It isn't cheap and I may be wrong but family wisdom has it that you only get what you pay for.

Yes, @ianpspurs I agree that the top level British Gas Homecare cover is well worth it. We had a problem with our boiler and the engineer virtually replaced every part in it. So we basically have a brand new boiler now - but in the old casing.

I just went out the kitchen door to check if the rubbish wheelie had been collected. But there were two men in a white van, some roofing writing but I couldn't see, one jumped out and ran up my driveway saying something, but I cannot hear anything as I am not wearing my cochlear processor because I can't hear anything properly as regards words with it yet. I am practising each evening under controlled circumstances, but they do not include a gabby roofing scally/conmen. And if they realise my hearing vulnerability that is not good for me and I will never get rid of them.

I got back in quick and locked the kitchen door, and I could see them banging at the kitchen window, so I came back to my bedroom with the cuppa I had just made.

I 'll go out in about 15 min when I have finished my tea. Surely they will have long gone by then... I do have a notice on the window and door, saying 'No Tradesmen (and a few more categories). If no appointment, then no one will answer the door.'

If they are still hanging around (most unlikely) when I look/go out to check for wheelie, I shall just say, 'My son sorts out all that stuff.'

Legs all bound up again for another week. For some reason, this time I couldn't get on the sandals I've been wearing all week so had to come home without shoes on. Fine in the car, but a bit of an issue when trying to negotiate the gravel in our driveway. Neil did offer to get the wheelchair out for me, but I managed with care.

Yesterday I put together an ancestry line for Em. It goes back 42 generations to Ragnar Lodbrok in the 8th century. I really think I have exhausted that line of investigation. Must take a look at the Welsh line next - I'm back to the 1300s so far with a mention of one "ap Tudor" which looks promising, as well as several Griffiths and ap Rhyses around Caernarvon. So much for my background being all Anglo-Saxon.

Through the housing, my boiler has been changed initially cos it was a emersion (think that is how you spell it) heater. Which was all electric to a combi boiler which we have had three in the past fifteen years, and numerous call outs for parts issues, loss of pressure and upgrades(???)
We also have the ten month gas check, as per the law in council housing or similar.
I really wouldn't want to see the bill for all that!
I asked about the greener new boilers, that should be imminent, due to the government act, as well as the warm homes work. Nobody knows anything or not telling me.
The grants are out there but are they cheap enough to get things done?
Still think the Romans were better at this sort of thing!

A team will be here Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. One day will mean taking up all the floorboards in 94 y.o. MIL's bedroom, new pipes and relaying the boards. Tank drained, new one fitted and new electrics. This house was built at the end of Major's time with a heating system which was soon discontinued. Having a new system with full certification will be a bonus. Future premiums may be fun but my guess is this lot would have cost a new mid-range family saloon if we had paid Pete the plumber - or parts only if my father was still alive and active. Great photos of the flowers, thank you. You should be proud of what your effort and care have produced.I'm fine with flowers/gardens like that in photos but not real life. That's just me and a family/home area idea of what gardens are and are not. Food, shade, sheds and minimal work on flowers especially when crops need the time and labour. I don't remember anyone having a flower garden they were very proud of but their veg and fruit were a whole other matter. No one had a patio or sat outside much until mid 1970s. Front garden of potatoes or gooseberries wasn't unusual.

Beautiful flowers @Lamont D
You work hard on your garden.
Thank you @gennepher.
It's always been something I have never had time before.
At our previous house, I tried roses but they didn't want to flower.
My first lawn was a learning curve, but working for the club, was a great experience to get the lowdown on growing grass, the green stuff, you lot!!
. That has leaves, that you use grass seeds, that you don't smoke, honestly you lot have your brains in the gutter with us townies!:singing::meh::hilarious::dead::cool:

I have quite a few neighbours who have great garden space, front and back around here, that are nice car and driveway areas. Some are just weed patches and small forests.
Mine wasn't to good before I retired in 2020. Mrs L made a few suggestions (orders really) to tidy up the front garden, the back didn't need much, as it was already mainly paved with a few plants that pops had put in, many years ago.I
However, I had to do it slowly and get the grass sorted first as it wasn't growing and the attention needed was elsewhere, I knew some good grass seed from my friends in the club, so I did that first..
After some good topsoil and scouring the surface of growth I didn't want, some roots, some bushes blocking light in the morning, had to be trimmed or gone completely. Cos one of them there bushes had blown over, and a few weeks later that was gone roots and all.
Finances meant that the garden got the change very slowly. But I think it helped with options and plans for the spring and summer months. I would only plant perennials then until this year, and use annuals in between.
And added a couple of rose bushes, only because I like them.
I have had good successes but some fails.
Some lilys haven't come back.
And if you remember my garden front and back is festooned in spring with Bluebells. Which is brilliant.

I wouldn't want to grow vegetables to be honest.
My DiL does and has offered to help, but I prefer flowers when I'm relaxing.
Plus I don't eat any root veg.
And Mrs L likes her lilys and roses, her summer plants.
So I do as I'm told.
And I enjoy the results.
Have watering to do, watching the cricket, but Guyana has pinched our rain!!!!!
C'mon England!

Never thought I would ever see myself as a gardener!
You never know do you?

Good on you. India were allowed to get 20 too many IMHO but we can hope.

I sprinkle my dried koffy grounds - slugs and snails don’t like it.Also handy to persuade cats that their toilet is elsewhere. You could of course get a load of chickens and ducks. Some other ideas Here.
Agreed @dunelm. I find spent coffee grounds are more effective at stopping the little perishers in their tracks than crushed egg shells.

That said, slugs are food for many other animals, so it makes sense to encourage their predators into your garden, so they can eat the offenders and keep their numbers down!

Ginger Cat Merlin takes over the swing for the night

Creative...studying some bushes and trees...
On paper using thin Japanese calligraphy pen...
In Snapseed for copyright and name and date...the same Daisy from a few weeks ago, the white petals have all curled under with age. The badger broke two of them, and I was about to snap them off when I realised they were still trying to grow with the tiniest bit of sap that could still get through to the flower. They both healed their stems, and though lying on the ground, now curled upwards, and the flowers are blooming as well as the perfect straight ones...
These daisies are the first thing I see when I wake up of a morning...

Last night I discovered a blister on my left big toe. I have no feeling in that toe...hallux rigidus (no feeling or movement or pain in that big toe any more, same with my right toe). It was caused by the shoes I was wearing. Had the shoes for 6 months and a blister has never happened yet. So a different pair of shoes which hopefully won't aggravate the blister, but I won't know until I take my socks off.
How to get rid of a blister?
Googled.
UK sites basically said leave the blister to go away by itself.
US sites said the needle method to drain it, and that's what I have always done.
So googled alternative methods, because I am not dexterous enough to do the needle method any more.
Ah!
Alternative solutions!
I chose the saltwater method. Salt water on a pad, I used a make up pad soaked with salt water, and bound it with guaze. I still wasn't dexterous enough for that, but I managed it after a fashion. Apparently this works by osmosis.
Looked at it this morning, 5 hours after I had put it on...IT WORKS.
Anyway, it should be on much longer than 5 hours, and although now flat, it hadn't quite osmosied away. So one more application, the top skin of the blister is still unbroken (unlike with a needle), and apparently that helps with keeping the healing of the blister in a sterile environment....

I wish I had known this salt water method before for blisters...so easy...

I am going to look for some soft slippers for today...I have some, I just never wear them...

Have your best day

Time for a cuppa

So, it seems midnight has set the swing up as an Air BnB for the local community & travellers.

No wonder he oversees it and guard it so jealously

Smart cat

Nice tip about the blister..

Pin it is what I normally do, then find it hard not to to pick at the loose skin once popped ...silly boy ?...yes, I know, we are aware....:hilarious:

An election you say....mmhh

Where none of the participants are corrupt & detestable.

How refreshing .

Forum elections for those interested.

Cast my vote.

Wildlife nighttime video
Not so much much wildlife, but Midnight wondering were everyone had gone...
Midnight sat in this very spot ALL of the night looking into the trail camera. He kept himself awake. He faced the camera all night. He refused to let himself sleep. Then when daylight arrived, he charged indoors and leapt on my bed (I had just woken, been to the bathroom, made a cuppa tea, and got back in bed), and I never got to drink my tea, because I put my sleep mask on, and went back to sleep with Midnight for another couple of hours...I think at the end of the video, you can see Midnight looking in the direction of my bedroom, because he has heard me getting up...

Far too hot for me...hard to breathe in this heat, despite my fans and humidifier and personal mister going...
And that stupid arctic blanket I spoke of yesterday is going in the bin. I wouldn't even give it to a charity shop in case someone like me who needed fans working in their room, ended up in a cryo chamber. Amazon won't let me leave a review because it was a gift...

I need my inhaler...

Have your best day

I fell asleep writing this...

Just putting the wheelie and recycle bags etc out earlier finished me off...that is my lot for the day...I don't envy those bin men in this weather. Some stupid people were complaining online that yesterday their wheelies and recycle were not collected until 9pm. Good grief....

Pretty hot going if you are on a bin round in this heat. Another splendid piece of ink work.
