You're doing well, @rhubarb73 , I'd've had to count to 100 and then would have still been steaming coming out of the utility room.

It's been lovely sharing the day with only the KittenCat, although she was probably counting to 10 this morning while I was trying to wake up, stab my finger, and find my slipper socks before getting her breakfast.

Do any of y'all know what I did wrong with my garlic butter? I followed the recipe I found online but it never got to tasting like garlic butter. I melted butter, added garlic powder, and salt "to taste" but the last fingertipful I sampled took my esophagus by surprise and still didn't taste right.

Oh, well, the chili is good by itself and I certainly didn't need the garlic bread. But I'd like to know what I did wrong (and Mama was such a good cook ... )

On a positive note my BGs have been below 8 all day which is a minor miracle given how mad I was (and I had some trifle!)
You have actually tested brave you are.

I have been relaxing with a rusty nail (Drambue and whiskey) and a Havana cigar my grandson bought me for Christmas.:)

OK @rhubarb73 you shamed me into it have tested and am at 7.3 not bad considering that's after a Christmas dinner.:)
Sorry - I didn’t mean to create any peer pressure. I completely get people want a day off testing for all sorts of reasons.
Personally I was curious because it’s my first diabetic Christmas. I even treated myself to a fresh lancet.
Glad it worked out well for you John.

I have never found cars boring. :)

@JohnEGreen I can't scan my car of the '70s but he looked somewhat like your car (only I have a feeling they aren't at all the same under the hood-bonnet). This is close:

Looks fairly similar the pic I posted was a Hillman Avenger Tiger and I had a lot of fun with it in the 70's eventually sold it when family came along I sold it to a cousin of Rod Argent strangely enough.

Thanks, @JohnEGreen I didn't recognize the make. Mine was a '68 Opel Kadett L. Mine didn't have the rally stripes on the hood; did have a bicycle rack permanently mounted on the rear bumper. And good 8-track speakers added to the interior door panels. I have a picture of it parked at the drop zone, both doors open, John Denver, et al., blaring while we packed parachutes and watched the jumpmasters fly.

On the bright side I had a lovely Christmas I got some stuff for my bedroom and my Nanny came to have Christmas dinner with us :D so glad she’s out of the house everyone has been worrying about her as she has dementia and COPD and just last week we found out she needs to be on oxygen 20 hours a day. But she was very happy to join us for Christmas dinner and sit by our fireplace :) anyway sleep well everyone

I just Googled "Hillman Avenger Tiger" and the first hit I got was this:
hillman_avenger_tiger_drinking_glass.jpg

Would you like to show it to your grandson before next Christmas? --

I want one of those glasses.

1972: Hillman Avenger Tiger

Hillman Avenger Tiger
Named to evoke memories of the Sunbeam Tiger, the Avenger Tiger concept began as a publicity exercise. Avenger Super (four-door) cars were modified by the Chrysler Competitions Centre under Des O' Dell and the Tiger model was launched in March 1972. Modifications included the 1500 GT engine with an improved cylinder head with enlarged valves, twin Weber carburetors and a compression ratio of 9.4:1. The engine now developed 92.5 bhp (69 kW) at 6,100 rpm. The suspension was also uprated, whilst brakes, rear axle, and gearbox are directly from the GT.

A distinctive yellow colour scheme ("Sundance") with a bonnet bulge, rear spoiler and side stripes was standard, set off with "Avenger Tiger" lettering on the rear quarters.

Road test figures demonstrated a 0–60 mph time of 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 108 mph (174 km/h). These figures beat the rival Ford Escort Mexico, but fuel consumption was heavy. Even in 1972, the Tiger developed a reputation for its thirst.

All Avenger Tigers were assembled by the Chrysler Competitions Centre and production figures are vague but around 200 of the initial Mark 1 seems likely.

In October 1972, Chrysler unveiled the more "productionised" Mark 2 Tiger. The Avenger GL bodyshell with four round headlights was used. Mechanically identical to the earlier cars, the bonnet bulge was lost although the bonnet turned matt black, and there were changes to wheels and seats. These cars went on sale at £1,350. Production was around 400. Red ("Wardance") was now available as well as yellow ("Sundance"), both with black detailing.

Mine had double twin choke weber carbs lowered and widened suspension and was a good deal faster than the standard tuned car. I once annoyed my boss by overtaking him when he was in his E-Type Jag.

I was always breaking the speado but used to judge my spead by the fuel gauge :)

That took me back. I had a Cortina Mk3 2 door Crayford convertible (pic is not mine but same car). Had the engine uprated by Janspeed, it was just plain nasty. ;)

No need to be sorry you gave me the courage to test and it was no where near as bad as I thought.

You are so right Ian my Christmas will be complete when my son joins us on the 27th and the family is reunited for a few days he has had to spend the Christmas at the friary with the brothers.

@Ziggy2017 I can think of no better place for your Nanny to be than sat by your fire place with her family about her. Sleep well.
