What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

@PenguinMum Years ago when I was in my early 40s (and thankfully had health insurance) I had a good doctor who referred me to a local Mitral Valve clinic. There I was given several tests and diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome Dysautonomia (dysautonomia is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system). It is apparently what causes my panic attacks. I had had symptoms since early childhood but a major trigger was landing on my head after getting bucked off by a young horse, right before I went back to university after 3 years away -- a hugely stressful lifestyle change in itself.

Knowing what causes panic attacks and what triggers them hasn't cured mine. Taking an SSRI helps but it doesn't cure. I have had the equivalent of one EKG a year for the past 6 years, and last time they even did a heart X-ray as well.

Just my own experience -- FWIW. :)
Morning Saskia and KC. Thanks for sharing your story. Wow. I had no idea all this could be so debilitating and by the sounds of it complex. I hope you are able to go forward managing this as best you can. All best wishes. X

Morning all. 8.5 mmo/lt FBG just now. Had some carbs yesterday, maybe 40g. Cold turkey today and we'll see if tomorrow is different. One week until my T2 review at the Clinic.

Still on the T2 learning curve.
Dont beat your self up True (Spandeau Ballet fan me!) FBG are notoriously difficult to get under control esp in the early days. Its caring about getting not so good numbers that will propel you forward to get better ones. You’re doing great. Best wishs.

Morning all, a truly, truly spectacular.......14.1 someone's cannula sealed off last night, so a day of catch up today and a full set change to boot, oh the joys of diabetes eh. Thank you @Bubbsie and @SaskiaKC they may look angelic but Trixie "Princess Pocket Rocket" and Sid "The Handsome" are nuts!! Chewing everything in sight and being pains for their mum at the minute! God help us in the summer!

Take care everyone.
My first dog was called Trixie she was a puppy when I got her and I was 9 years old, when she passed eventually I was married with a daughter. Boy did I love that little dog.

Our Trixie is a rescue Bulldog from the Edward Foundation, we have only been owned by her for six months, but it feels like she has been with us for longer. They do have a way of getting in your heart.

5.7 this morning. @johnpol your dogs are gorgeous.
@Bubbsie good luck in the traffic I don’t envy you a bit.
@dunelm that’s a good point about dogs returning sticks - you could be right. We lost our bin lid yesterday as it wasn’t put back on properly now it’s blown away heaven knows where and the bin is full of rainwater.
Good luck at the diabetes clinic this morning @alf_Josiah
@Patrick66 that’s a really annoying way to wake up - almost as irritating as when a small child prises your eyelids open to see if you’re awake under them!

6.9 this morning. I just plugged in my new-ish electric kettle and there was a loud POP! and some sparks and a smell of burning, and the clock on the microwave went out. I hope it's just a blown fuse and that they won't have to rewire the entire socket. If I didn't have to call the maintenance director I would just go back to bed. It's not even daylight yet!

Morning All. A dastardly 7.3 this morning because I had one slice of cake last night. Was at a friends for supper and she had made this fab citrus sponge cake and insisted I had a small slice so I gave in. Later she told us the secret ingredient was 250g mashed potato to go with the 250g flour.! It was so nice but so not worth that!
@johnpol Trixie and Sid look like butter wouldnt melt....
@jjraak ah you’re ok, lol, sounds like a really great adventure, enjoy every minute.
@Saskia I appreciate you sharing your story, wow. If you dont encounter this you have no idea how serious it can be. Best wishes.
@alf_Josiah good luck at the D clinic you and yer mates will have them in stitches!
@karen8967 have you started your new job yet or having a lull between jobs?
Have a good Wednesday everyone. Stay well, stay safe.
i dont start till the 21st march so having a little rest inbetween thanks for asking penguinmum:)

Good morning all, 5.7 this chilly morning, I don't miss that London traffic Bubbs, no quarter given. How do people take their driving tests in it is beyond me.
I took my driving test in East London circa 1980. I became an expert on box junctions. But no roundabouts or dual carriageway on learning or test circuit. Guardian Angel was watching over me as I didn't have a prang when I went solo!

@PenguinMum weighing up stressful time with your son against the higher reading for one morning - #cakegate was oh so definitely a winner. Friend of our son's had a horrific, life changing, hospital experience a week ago so well done to the hospital for checking your son thoroughly.
@DJC3 children prizing eyes open is fine - cats?:arghh::arghh::arghh:

I have been up since 4.00am..

And I know why I was awake..

Cat using me as a trampoline and digging her claws in with such gusto I didn’t need to prick my finger because she had already drawn enough blood for several strips!

She should be put on the NHS payroll as a diabetes equipment consultant!

Good morning all. Had to get up early, so didn't get enough sleep today. Blood sugars were 5.2 today.

@PenguinMum -- Happy that your son is home with you now and that it doesn't seem to be the heart. Do you have any idea what might be causing the panic attacks?
@jjraak -- Wow, India -- this sounds exciting. Whereto in India? Is it your first time there?
@Freema -- Great to see fbgs in the 5s -- well done.

Have a great Wednesday, everyone.

hey dear must admit I do cheat and take a metformin-pill in the mornings .. besides eat very low carb and calories

5.6 today, would have been lower but had carvery dinner out with the family. Celebrating son having mortgage app approved. I had gravy!

Was contacted by DCUK PR team yesterday. Lots more exciting things in the pipeline!!! Possibility of TV!!! And radio too. Very exciting.

My Facebook post today

IVE FOUND A LOCALISH LOW CARB GROUP!!! WE ARE GOING TO SKIPTON Eric. Going to pop along to one of their meetings to get some ideas and bring them back to Blackpool and set up something similar! I think it's the future. Both for weight loss and controlling blood sugars and all sorts of other health benefits. I'm learning all the time myself!! Sharing the love .

***here is a link to a radio interview with dr Vernon Wheelock from skipton who has set this group up. Its 30 minutes of info on why low carb, why NOT low fat, how fat doesnt make you fat, truth about cholesterol, statins, processed food industry and much more, well worth a listen while you are pottering around***

My Gran had a cat about the only cat I can remember not getting on with, especially after having to wear an eye patch for 2 months it's that old equation 10 year old lads right eye + cats amazingly sharp claws = pain and misery. :)

For the lad that is the cat didn't feel a thing not even guilt.

@ianpspurs thanks for the reassurance re cake and stress. Very distressing for a young man to come to serious harm. I hope your son’s friend is recovering well.
@SaskiaKC thank you son is so much better but his whole body took a hit and he now has a head cold, cough and upset stomach. Work keep ringing him so he is talking about going back for Thurs/Fri and continuing TLC treatment here over weekend.
@Debandez it made me laugh you celebrated with gravy...or thats how it read. Me, I would have had gin!

Not a great start to the day Saskia hope it was just a fuse and normal service has now resumed and the newish kettle survived. You and the KC have a calm rest of day.

"hi Auntie dcuk.

Hope your all ok up there.?

Just a short post to let you know I'm doing ok.

But have had a blip lately.

As you know, inner me, has been poorly behaved the last few years. Yes my fault for indulging him ..but what can you do, when you love them....

Yes auntie, it was a rod for my own back, but since talking to you and getting such good advice, you know I've taken a firmer line with him since last year..and it was all going so well
Inner me is SO Much better behaved.

I don't usually worry over his nonsense, because it all usually works out for the best over a day or two

But this one's annoying.

I've even got a name for it..
Groundhog 2...:bookworm:

Again got woken with cramp.
Fbg Rainbow 6...(again )

Succumbed to hunger pangs late after work 11pm.... again.

Again the greedy Fe***r, inner me insisted he ate before doing ANYTHING else.

Double cream n one sliced giant strawberry later.

He did say..
"fanks .....me enjoy :D..luvs u. X "

Which is something I suppose.

Then he said he was tired and needed to sleep, even tho I still had stuff I wanted to do :sorry:...so off we went.

Went to sleep pretty quickly i think

..and woke up to GH2.....:***:

I hope he's fully ashamed of himself.
(.but I doubt it :banghead: )

Off on hols soon, so he's bound to play up.

And I don't want to be too hard on him.
I know he's SO looking forward to it,

But we'll definitely be having some serious words, if he doesn't start pulling his socks up

Anyway got to go, auntie,
lots to do in a limited time.

Just wanted to say we are thinking of you.

Love to all.
Take care and look after yourselves.

love as always JJ."
