What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Morning All. 6.4 today. Sigh.......
@geefull your latest results are amazing, stuff of dreams for me. Can I enquire how many carbs/day and do you do any fasting? I need to do something different if I am to avoid insulin.
@Cumberland sorry about the vein business. I would look on it as an extra week to get BG low but thats just me.
Have a good day everyone.

Yes that would be nice

No doctor or nurse ever told me not to test - I wouldn't want to make generalisations and disparage a whole profession or exonerate bad examples. Guess I was fortunate then.
I think maybe you have been lucky I had one doctor deny for approximately two years that I was diabetic even with a HbA1c of 64 then my present doctor though he diagnosed diabetes on our first consultation and agreed that I had been diabetic quite a while said there was no need to test and refused to prescribe a meter or strips. Though he did say sorry John we seem to have missed the boat here somewhat.

I have had a healthy distrust of doctors since I was 13 years old when my father passed away Imagine two doctors one white the other black with extreme racial tension between them so unable to come to an agreement on diagnosis that is when I realised that doctors are just like every one else and prone to all the human frailties and prejudices.

BTW they where both wrong in their assessment and by the time it came to the attention of their boss is was too late.

@JohnEGreen It is very understandable that your view of Drs is less nuanced than mine and no amount of sympathy will make those scenarios right.

Your experience of the medical profession seems to have been less happy than mine. I have no reason to doubt your experience but apparently mine may be unusual.

The original point of this thread was doctors fobbing patients off with hogwash rather than admit they don't know the answer. Various examples have been quoted in the above threads.

My experience of the medical profession is this: 4 liver clinics, 4 skin clinics and 2 hospital diabetic clinics a year, therefore I see a lot of doctors. The majority are good and care admitting they don't know when the situation arises.
Now when I have a clinic with a doctor that does not know the answers and will not admit they don't know, that's when things get awkward for them.

GP's I classify them into 3 categories. 1. Use them for a diagnosis, 2. Use them for repeat prescriptions and 3. Avoid at all costs. In fact I have just named one of the GP's at my practice Dr Death.

Bitter experience with nurses has taught me to smile sweetly and ignore everything they say with regard to my complex medical problems, which is why I always advise see a doctor.
Let's repeat the majority of doctors are caring and competent.
I hope this long diatribe clarifies things for all.

Good evening all. Didn’t want to share this until it had stuck firm for at least 5 days.
For the first time in 22 years (half my life) I am officially a healthy weight on the BMI scale.
I don’t especially like BMI but then if someone tells you you’re overweight for 20 years it’s easy to develop a dislike for them.
It’s an artificial boundary I’ve crossed. In many ways it means nothing- but after an up and down week with BG it somehow means a lot.
It feels good.

Well done it’s an amazing feeling isn’t it. It does mean something as it’s one of those targets that hover there and no matter how often you try to not consider it it does affect you. I hit the obese range before diagnosis and love being in the low normal category. Give yourself a gold star and a pat on the back you need to count your achievements. Well done you

That’s brilliant, what a great feeling! It may be an artificial boundary but it’s a very real result, well done. Especially after coming back from the land of the pasty and cream tea so recently - double gold star.

The great thing about a cream tea is you can take it literally- have the tea, have the cream; leave the rest.
