What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Newly diagnosed this week and waiting to find out what type - but likely type 2 so finding my way still
13.3 at bedtime 11.6 at 1am - tested because I woke up for wee, and just felt a bit odd, this morning at 7.15am it was 12.7
I seem to be sitting at around 13 first thing in the morning and bedtime has been anything from 13 - 17,
All suggestions welcome

sorry to hear to hear your recently diagnosed it will be stressful time for you sending hugs. have a browse around the sucess stories section of this forum. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/success-stories-and-testimonials.43/

i'd be trying to reduce some carbs alongside exercising a little after meals not huge changes to start just slow and steady.

you can get a free cgn trial https://www.dexcom.com/en-GB/one-plus-campaign-sample? (10 days) i would hold off on that until any possible meds. then do a little bit of expirimenting. complex carbs take longer to digest turning to sugars which would help flatten spikes. theres a fair few success stories on low carb / keto diets. if not wishing a huge change of diet maybe aim for slightly smaller plates. small changes such as changing to wholegrains may help a little.

i'd also try up your sugarfree fluid intake as that can help to lower glucose levels if not already drinking around 2.5-3litres per day. (around 8-10 glasses)

brightside with diagnosis is that you will be given some tools to help treat its a marathon and not a sprint. You should also be given some education i found that dsn doesnt want to overwhelm with giving out too much info at a time. slow and steady will get you there best wishes and welcome to the forum

@LouT Hi sorry to hear of your diagnosis but thankfully not the end of the world although it may seem it at the time. Your numbers will come down with medication and the weird and annoying symptoms will diminish or even completely disappear.
You will find on this site many experiences, hints, tips and caring advice that help you along your journey of living with diabetes. Believe it or not we are all a friendly bunch (despite our obsession with numbers) and keen to share advice as well as experiment with ways to improve things and make diabetes more manageable. Good luck and keep smiling.

This morning 5.9 on one hand, 5.6 on the other. :)

I attended for my annual foot check yesterday. It was a new girl, L whom I had seen for the previous 6 years has left. L used to so frustrate me at times due to negatively, but she was very conscientious and caring. Her mantra was you needed carbs and you must look after your feet. You should always wear slippers and slip on shoes were a definite no no. It was only on the last occasion I saw her that she she actually opened up a little and we had a good conversation about life in general. I liked her very much. The new girl didn't know why she had left but thought it might be family concerns. I'm going to miss her and wish her well.

This new nurse had a totally different attitude, she was totally laid back a little too laid back, dangerously so IMO. She said she couldn't care less what shoes I wore, as I knew what the recommendations were so if I wanted to mess my feet up, it was up to me! She checked in between my toes, which L never did, then proceeded to do the foot check between talking about her life. With L this had always been the most important part of the appointment. Good news though, my ectopic heart beat seemed to be behaving itself. During the check, she volunteered the information that her mum was on insulin and she was borderline diabetic she said it was hard to change her diet to lose weight as didn't like soups, didn't eat a lot of meat, didn't like eggs and that the majority of her diet was carbs. .She didn't seem bothered that she might follow her in mum's footsteps.
Did I have any arthritis? I've never been asked that one before. Didn't bother asking why she wanted to know. We then moved on to more mundane matters such as the use of maggots to aid healing which she was adamant she couldn't touch, then she talked about her fear of spiders. A bit of a strange appointment altogether. I went in as the only person waiting to be seen, came out to a queue!. Appt lasted about 20 mins, it could have easily have been completed in 5. I suspect I might be seeing a different nurse next year!

I must be a real bore, none of those would float my boat. Now maybe a good frasier cake, made the keto way of course.

Woke up to six point four on the libre.

Soon jumped to over eight on getting active.

Loving all your funny pastry stories

I’m easing back into keto after being carni

Yesterday I made myself an almond flour based pancake with lots of vanilla paste . Smothered with soft cream cheese and finely sliced strawberries

I don’t know if it’s abstaining from fruit for nearly a year or just that this year’s strawberry’s are delicious. Either way it’s a treat

My recent endo meeting was a surprise in that I’ve gained five kilos in weight and added an inch to my waist in three months. My bmi is now just over twenty.

Have a good week end all. If you possibly can
