What's your weight loss today/this week?

Prior to "Friday the 13th" (Janaury 2012), diabetes diagnosis day, despite swimming 2,500 metres in an hour five days a week I was losing no weight and had been stuck at 96 kg for 16 month.

Altthough I didn't eat aggressivively (and had not got a sweet tooth), I immediately cut orange juice and Coffeemate, and then bread, pasta, rice and potatoe. That has taken me down to 87 kg. I still eat some Shredded Wheat and muesli for breakfast since my system seems to need it to sustain the exercise.

Well done swimmer and xyzzy. I've got a long way to go before I can join you in that club

I am still stuck but it's my own fault. Have lost the willpower and motivation AGAIN!!

That's going some Sterling - if I could swim for an hour then I'd possibly get near that - but I can't manage half that at the moment. I would say, however, that I swam 3-4 days a week for a year and didn't lose a single pound. When I combined it wit watching the carbs the weight came off instantly.

Well done Jeannemum and Sterling :)

I've lost a pound and that has taken my BMI down to 24.93 - below 25, which means I am in the 'ideal' weight zone at last. Last June my BMI was almost 37, so I'm very happy, but it is still onwards and downwards for me.

Wow that is great!!! did you lose all that weight through low carbing?

I just started low carbing and am pleased to say this week i lost 3.6lbs.... next weigh in will be tricky as i have two meals out between now and then!

2lbs this week BMI 25.9 now 14st 6lbs, was 3lbs which I lost all in one day then put 1lb back on weird how this weight loss works.

Well done xyzzy. It will be such a long time until I am anywhere near normal

How brilliant are you to lose so much weight in such a short time. Well done

Diagnosed 3 weeks ago today, and have now lost a total of 8lbs since diagnosis. 1 and a half more since Monday. Go me!

No it wont Jeannemum none of that defeatist talk especially from you!

I had pretty much resigned myself to being the weight I was prior to all of this but the low carb thing and the incentive to stop killing myself works really well and quite quickly. Took a while for the weight loss to start on low carb and have hit a couple of frustrating plateaus on the way down but getting there slow and steady.

Thanks for the encouragement just 3 and a half stone to go, next stop is sub 90Kg's, then weighing less than the dog, then BMI 25 :)

Well done on your own weight loss 8lbs since you started is great!

I'm aiming to lose a stone in a month. We shall see..

Thank you for your encouragement too, but realistically there is a lot of flab to shift. 4 to 5 stones more. I really want to see the magic of a normal BMI, but that could be a year away. It will happen though!

Am I reading your post wrong? You surely can`t have 3 and a half stones to lose, just pounds. You would disappear if you turned sideways!

Nope you read it right. My target weight is 11 stone. Would have a BMI around 21.5 so slap bang in the middle of normal. I measure weight loss in years so that would make me in my mid 20's with either a 28" or 30" waist I reckon. Currently at 14st 7lbs still only back to my early 40's with a 34" waist which admittedly is a bit less than the 42" one I had just over 4 months ago so I am actually feeling quite chuffed.

On a more serious note I picked the 11 stone for a reason. At that weight you are right I would be pretty slimmed down but then hopefully I will have lost loads of insulin resistance. At that point if I caught my T2D early enough and still have some beta cell function left then I should be able to adopt a slightly wider diet. Realise I am never going to be able to go back to my carb crunching days and will need to keep slim and healthy but being able to worry less about eating would be great. If I find out I have no or very little function left then I'm at a position where I'm healthy and slim and could push the insulin button if I really wanted without too many risks as I would have already trained myself what's needed to keep slim. Getting to the 11 stone target keeps all the control and decisions up to me rather than others. That's the theory anyway.

That sounds a reasonable theory - I'm hoping that I'll get so proud of the slimmer, lighter me that I won't be tempted to balance carbs with insulin.

3lbs this week!

Down to 14st 3lb (90.3Kg) BMI 25.5 just half a point to go then I'm normal. A strange week cos on Sunday despite loads of exercise and walking miles I'd put 2lbs back on.

Great stuff xyzzy :D

One pound for me, so 9 pounds post diagnosis, or 4 weeks. Not so good, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Keep it up Jeannemum. I found early on I pretty quickly hit a plateau and got stuck for around two weeks. In the end it started to drop. Hit another couple of plateaus later on as well. They are very frustrating but you just need to stick at it. Good when they do disappear as I find I then lose a lot over a short number of days.

I've finally reached 13 stone :D

Been trying since Christmas but keep alternating between 13st 2lbs and 13st 4lbs :(

I'm determined the only way now is down and I hope to be under 13st this time next week.

Well done to the rest of you. You are all doing really, really well

Keep to it ladybird. You know we'll all support you.
