Hi William. Ron keeps on forgetting to test in the morning even though I leave messages everywhere. So I was wondering if any of you who post in the morning thread could remind him. Sorry for the delay in replying was seeing to Ron as he was having a seizure.

Thank you @Liam1955 he can go for days without testing . I try not to nag him but I would like him to test at least once a day. X

Is all I could find which could cause inflammation. Some veg reduce inflammation but animal fat and protein can inflame things. ♡♥♡

I apologise in advance for War & Peace, peeps, but I had a bit of a 'lightbulb' moment yesterday and wanted to share it with you... :writer:

When I started LCHF back in March of this year, I soon noticed that I felt much better generally - less bloated, less tired, more alert - but that my levels of arthritis pain had increased significantly. I mentioned this a few times on the forum, but didn't hear from anyone else who had experienced the same effects. More recently I also noticed that my legs, feet, hands and arms appear to have lost muscle tone and were weaker than previously, although I simply put this down to the ageing process and didn't connect the two symptoms.

Yesterday, however, I was researching the latter effect when I found this: "Protein reigns supreme as a muscle-building macronutrient. But protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, and cheese—along with refined grains and salt—create acids inside your body that can start to eat away at muscle over time, notes a review article on diet and sarcopenia in the journal Osteoporosis International."
(Source: http://www.prevention.com/fitness/how-reverse-muscle-loss)

I learned that age-related loss of muscle mass, strength, and functionality is known as sarcopenia, and upon further research I discovered the following statement: "While consuming an adequate amount of protein is important for older adults, consuming too much protein can result in a low-level, diet-induced metabolic acidosis, or abnormally increased acidity in the body."

Hmmmm... that's interesting. Acidosis = Acidity = Inflammation = Pain... :wideyed:

I also found that studies have shown that potassium can act as a buffering agent against sarcopenia and osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. Some of the foods containing the most potassium are potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomato juice and puree, orange juice, apricots, bananas, plums, satsumas, pineapple, mango, grapes, dried fruit, fat-free milk, bran, wheatgerm and wholemeal pasta. And I've cleverly stopped eating all of these items, whilst avoiding carbs and increasing protein and fats, including animal fats!

So yes, it's looking as if you've been right about protein all along, @ickihun. I guess I need to do some more research, and fine-tune my diet to reduce some protein, increase the veggies, and perhaps include one or two of the potassium-rich foods I was previously avoiding...

I'll keep you posted. (Whether you like it or not! :joyful:)

I bought a book download about potassium. It's onmy tablet charging but ive been concerned about my potassium and magnesium. Potassium is excellent for helping with hypertension too.
I'm getting a little help from lchf with my bgs but not fbgs. However hf is stopping me losing weight. If not hf im hungry so eat anything.
I eat too many nuts and now too much meats.
The acid you're refering to is the acid which causes gout (a rarer form of arthritis).
Bodybuilders get around this by eating/drinking whey protein. Whey protein raises my bgs like carbs. But it might not you.
I'm going back on fisg and seafood on Monday as lamb and pork and chicken, and beef have been yummy. Oh and pork scratching. I'm changing my diet too. I lost no weight and veg has bored me to tears.
I will upkeep veg and keep off most carbs but an odd banana or kiwi might need to be suffered by my liver (fatty liver from fructose and carbs).
Im getting fed up of the problems related to lchf so I now need to find a new diet. Low fat it may have to be.

Further more. Potassium is in some veg. I will recall them monday for you.
If I carnt eat meats then I may as well turn vegetarian. As nuts, veg but without fruit or grains/lentils. Isnt vegan more likely?
Ps. Low potassium gives muscles cramps. Mainly in large leg muscles.
I think animal fats and proteins are the cause. It's looking likely.

Interesting...
It's funny you should mention gout, as my husband (who has long been prone to gout and arthritis, but is not diabetic) has suffered more episodes of gout since I have been cooking LCHF meals (with added carbs for him). And in addition to increased arthritis pain I have been getting terrible cramps in my feet and legs at night...
It's a minefield this, isn't it? I'm just beginning to realise how complex and finely-balanced human nutrition really is!
It seems that fine-tuning may be the answer. Drastic changes appear more likely to generate problems.

How about setting an alarm on his mobile to remind him and leaving his phone by the bed?
