Tea
B: Bacon, eggs, spam lite, beans, 1 spelt bread
2.30: sml pack pork scratchings
T: Lamb shank in red wine & shallot gravy, roast sweet potato, sugar snap peas, 2 yorkies & 2 sml vin rouge
tea during the day

Hi @heh,

The lamb shank in red wine & shallot gravy sounds delicious. I am drooling.

Breakfast - none

Lunch - none

Dinner - not sure it counts as the end of a 36 hour fast as I succumbed to half a (small) pack of pork crackling about 9pm last night. Found an old recipe and enjoyed a rare meat free day. Courgettes fried and then layered and baked with a fresh tomato and onion sauce and copious amounts of sliced mozzarella, topped with a sprinkling of grated Parmesan. Delicious and there's 3 portions left! Finished off with 2 squares Lindt 90%.

Drinks - 1 mug tea with cream, 1 Diet Coke, sparkling water and lots of plain water.

So glad I have started testing
Some results are surprising aren't they?
I had 1 slice of seeded toast Small portion of reduced sugar and salt baked beans and 2 Linda McCartney sausages for breakfast
2 hrs later bg 9.5 !
For lunch I had 1 small avocado 5 cherry tomatoes 3 slices of breaded ham and a small portion of mature cheddar
2 hrs later bg 5
Comments welcome

Yes, meters are very useful! You might find that it's the combination of relatively high carb foods that caused your breakfast spike rather than any one individual element. If they're things you really enjoy, it would be worth trying them individually alongside some lower carb options.

The joys of toast and baked beans, eh?
You can try one of the lower carb breads (lidl protein rolls, or Burger are lower carb than ordinary bread).
I gave up on baked beans completely.
Not sure what the carb content on Linda McC sausages are, but they may be part of the problem...

Having said that, 9.5 isn't horrific.
We are advised to be under 7.8 at 2 hours. Some of us aim lower, but remember it is all a learning curve! :)
You may find dropping just one item gets you where you want to be :)
Maybe add a flat mushroom and a grilled tomato instead?

Agree with that. I had that problem yesterday when 1 Slice of Hovis low carb seeded was a step too far with my other breakfast items. It's fine on its own but nightmare with other foods and they were not particularly carby.

Well another day that began with a big liver dump - bed on a 7 up on a 10 - so I decided some more drastic action was called for
Decided to semi fast and also lower my protein to give liver less to turn into glucose, and also to up fibre
Made a salad of 1 bag each watercress & rocket, 4 stalks celery & 1avocado
B & L salad With a drizzle of tahini
D - 1 slice Banting bread & 5g tahini.
Mid evening - Another portion of salad with a roasted aubergine dippy thing I made
Drinks - water
620 cal 16g carbs 23g fibre
Sugars have responded very well - Hovering between 4 & 5 since mid afternoon which is more than satifactory
NB The banting bread ( recipe from real food revolution book) is quite good

I seem to have had another festering bug for most of the day. After dinner last night I dropped to 6 but then instead of a slow fall it started to rise bed on 7.1. The rise continued with No usual 3am drop until I woke to a FBG of 8.4. Seriously? Felt a bit queasy, spent a lot of time around 8.9 and never been below 7 all day so far. There's still time though.

B. Boiled egg and Tassimo morning coffee and a dash of cream
L. Marigold Swiss bouillon
D. The last of yesterday's chicken Cordon blue, leftover cauliflower mash, sprouts and broccoli and 3 mushrooms.

At least I don't feel queasy now.

D. Spicy beef and veg stew.

Cups of tea and glasses of water throughout the day. It has been a great day carb wise. #smiley face.
