What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

15-12-19
Breakfast. 2x CWC.
Visitors early so nothing else, except tea. And an arrangement for guy to come and help with the building work- starting tomorrow.YIPPEEE. But- now no chance of leaving early for UK. ':arghh:
Planned to use leftover veg from last night. But when it was heated up with an egg on top... meh. Ate the egg. Veggies in the bin.
Lunch. BG 5.4
Avocado, tomato and brebis salad. Bit of chicken, lettuce and cucumber. A large orange.
This was a planned experiment. First course almost carb free. Meant to take BG 60 mins and 2 hours but in the end was only 90 mins. BG 5.3
Am hoping this means I can indulge in fruit sometimes, If I plan carefully.
Several cups of tea, we both been busy and neither of us had enough fluid today.
MrSlim opened a bottle if fizz while I was making dinner. Ofc I had a glass.
Dinner pork shoulder chop, cauliflower, green beans, red cabbage casserole. Yoghurt and berries. More fizz.
Proof that alcohol can cause me problems. All week have been waiting until dinner. Things have been fine. Tonight drink 20, maybe 30 mins BEFORE dinner, result - not good. Presume it is the loss of weight that has decreased my tolerance. Hopefully lesson learned and just in time for the alchofest tbat is xmas. Where are all the tasty non alcohol, low carb drinks?
Does anyone have a recommendation for one that isn't too sweet?

Small chunk of Cantal cheese.
Lemi and ginger tea.

@Chook I envy you being so organised for the 25th. I will have a lot done by the end of Thursday. Our sons arriving home on Friday but I have an eye injection so supper will be a takeaway. I am hoping to get to the shops over the weekend to finish food shopping.
I will continue to test FBG each day and will be careful but will have a little stuffing and a roastie on my plate. I might have a dessertspoon of Christmas pud if I feel like it. I might have a little dark chocolate but will swerve the Quality Street because if I have one I have six! We actually have one meal at 5pm and during the day have various h/m canapes and fizz which is fairly lc if I dont overdo it. Enjoy your Christmas and hopefully no hypos or surges!

Hi I think you are trying your best with the challenges the meds cause you. Its not easy when the clinic didnt get back to you. Maybe you should try them again. I am sorry about your loss, around many gatherings there will be someone missing this year but they will be very much there in your heart. I am glad you are able to distract yourself with Christmas movies. The Grinch is our fave. The flowers in your garden are beautiful they must give you so much pleasure. Take care of yourself, it will take time.

Sorry been behind in posting so slowly trying to catch up with posts.

Being on prednisone and I've been trying to stay LCHF even when I am my BSL still spikes 4 to 5 hours after eating to 10 or 13 mmol/L. So I've rang my diabetic clinic again on Friday morning and was told someone will call back its now Monday night and no call. I try to control my hunger but its also been hard especially in the afternoon when my BSL is high im not sure why that is can high BSL make you more hungry? But I'm getting annoyed as no one rang back. So I'm thinking might increase my medication dose myself I've got about another 4 more weeks of tappering my dose of steroids but im concerned about my high BSL one night about 2 hours before bed it reached 20 mmol/L surprisingly my morning BSL are between 5 or 6 mmol/L.
I'm eating eggs scrambled sometimes a sausage with them. Today I slept in till 12.30pm i wasn't feeling so well my BSL was 6mmol/L I ate a banana and left over scramble eggs from 2 breakfasts ago. Dinner I made hamburgers with the works I was ravished I ate it on a low carb bun. Then had some cream with mangoes I figured fruit is probably better then eating chips chocolates etc but I'm still eating more than I need as im always hungry from the prednisone or BSL being high...

So How am I going well I'm doing ok still have my days. Only find out today that we are having Christmas at my mums place but I'm not sure who will be going. Normally at Christmas all my family goes to either my mums or my sister place who died recently. I'm from a large family there are over 35 of us I've actually lost count how many lol..but I'm not sure who is going to be going this year. I think its going to be a tough Christmas for all of us. And as I am writing this I've started crying sorry not looking for sympathy just needed to post this. But I'm ok so. It's just tears of emotions sadness and happinest mixed all together

So What have I been up to Since being home from hospital I've done little as possible I've mainly been recorporating resting cooking some meals and I've been binge watching a lot of Christmas movies for therapy haha as well. As dorky as some of these movies are they can help give you that warm hug feeling that you some times need.

Oh these are some of my flowers I have more photos but just selected a few photos of some I'm growing in my garden and a bunch of flowers a friend sent me. I hope you enjoy the photos of the flowers and cheer you all like they do me.

Hug for the steroid induced hunger, sadness of sister's passing and topsy turvy bg but winner for the amazing pics of flowers. Good on you for soldiering on and posting.

Today’s food shaping up as follows:
Breakfast: slice LivLife toast, butter, tea x2.
Lunch: Mug of h/m Leek & Broccoli soup, few rollitos.
Supper: Roasted chunks aubergine, red onion and tomato sprinkled with EVO and dried Italian herbs.

@Annb wondering how you are today?

Very much improved, thank you. It must all have been wrenched muscles - didn't know I was so muscular!;);)

Bit of a strange food day. Neil bought me some eggs and milk while I waited in for delivery of a 2nd hand filing cabinet we had bought. Lunch time a friend visited (she is a tutor for kids with learning issues and goes to a kid near us, so she came for a visit about lunch time), then the filing cabinet needed a good clean - took me much of the afternoon, interspersed with rests to ease my back, to do my bit of it - Neil did the main cabinet, my job was the drawers and the runners - I think I got the short straw there.:)

So there was tea aplenty but no food until after my friend had gone and before the cleaning of the cabinet. Then I made my omelette but not with the cauli leaves because I used up some bell peppers and onions I had already chopped up. I did blanch the leaves and have them ready for tomorrow. I also made up a box of food for the postman (No 2 son) to take away with him when he called in - to prevent me picking at things I shouldn't have (pasta/veg soup, trifles, chocolate cakes, soda bread (that's for the hens). Feeling very virtuous:angelic:.

Hi that is good news! I am a big fan of an omelette. I wonder if the cauli leaves would work as soup with a bit of chopped onion.

What lovely flowers! Thank you so much for posting the pictures. Sorry things are not going as well as you might hope, and that the clinic didn't get back to you - that's very disheartening but maybe you could have another try and let them know how important it is that they should get back to you. Sorry too, about your loss. Christmas is a poignant time, remembering those who are not there - for whatever reason. As they say "Absent friends" - worth raising a glass (if you drink) or even a cup of tea (if you don't) and some time spent thinking of them and remembering the good times.

Edited to move reply from within the quote - hope it works.

Evening all. It’s lovely to see you back @annabell1 I was wondering about you only yesterday, sounds like you are doing your very best under trying circumstances. I hope you get to speak to the clinic soon.
Today is day1 of my egg free experiment, and blow me down No itchy lumps! Don’t know whether to laugh or cry. It might just be coincidence so I’ll give it a week. Now I have the egg free mayo sussed I feel happier. @Chook I did contact a private allergy testing clinic - itd cost over £250 though so I think it’s easier to test my theory by abstinence.
OMAD today but it was quite spread out. Didn’t have time for meals earlier in the day and by the time I got in and started cooking I was ravenous. Had a cup of bone broth and some leftover crackling from yesterday’s joint, then ate a bag of Cheesies and some raw cauliflower I was preparing.
Meal was DD Garam Masala Chicken with roast cauliflower followed by choc chia pud with a chopped strawberry and extra thick cream.
@Annb I’m glad you are feeling better after your fall.
ETA some food I’d forgotten

I seem to have missed your egg problem. Is it a recent reaction? I never quite understand how something you have eaten forever suddenly becomes a problem. When I saw your convo earlier about mayo I assumed one of your girls was Vegan.

Tea and 5 gms pork scratchings until 14.15; Big, 2 avocado and chicken mayo salad with chia and linseeds- was going to be OMAD but had 20 gms Dr Almond milk chocolate at 6.45 (10.1% carbs so 2 gms?). @Chook glad you liked the salad - the fennel and fen celery in mine today was spiffing. Weirdly, youtube has been suggesting lots of talks from CarnivoryCon 2019 - nudge theory meets big brother.

Yes fairly recent and I’ve been trying to figure out what’s causing the intense itching. A daughter suggested eggs as she found out the top symptom for egg allergy ( intolerance I should say) is hives. I decided to cut them out for a week and see what happens. It is looking very likely but I am dismayed to say the least.

Thats a pity as I know you like me find eggs a good LC standby. Sometimes with intolerances if you quit for months and reintroduce slowly that can work. But you have to do what works best for you. Sending hugs.

Evening all.

Great to see you back @annabell1 and great pics also.
@Annb glad you’re feeling better
@DJC3 hope the rash turns out to be something entirely unrelated to eggs
@Chook all ready for the 25th here too - bar a huge pile of wrapping once I get to my Dad’s. Won’t be eating anything high carb, just consuming a lot more than usual. I’m the chef, except on Christmas Day, but that’s an easy one with the roast and then usually cheese in the evening. I’ll take my own chocolate cake for dessert - never did like Christmas cake, mince pies or Christmas pudding. I’ve got a new Libre sensor on, which will still be running on 25th.

On to today’s menu. Ate a lot - one of those hungry days and where BG ran higher than usual yesterday it’s been lower today.

Breakfast was bacon eggs and cheese.

Lunch was garlic and Parmesan chicken wings followed by a 25g bar of M&S 72% chocolate (not even a blip in BG) and a Kind bar.

Had a hair appointment after work so dinner was very late. Consisted of leftover lamb from yesterday and chicken wings marinated in butter and lime and air fried. Delicious crispy skin. Then another tiny piece of flourless chocolate cake.

I’m really really hoping that’s the case. I’ll try again next year.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late lunch: Greek yoghurt, coffee chia pudding and LC chocolate granola.
Late afternoon at Nero’s: coconut cappuccino and a gingerbread Carb Killa bar.
Dinner: tuna melts with mixed veggies followed by SF jelly, cream and keto macadamia and coconut granola.

Now that is STRANGE. I was talking to a friend today, explaining what and why I eat like this (she is also very ling term T2 on insulin) ... We had a look at my food diary and she pointed out that every time i have a day with higher than usual BG its immediately followed by a hungry day. It seems you have the same issue.

you may find you are fine with duck eggs. Worth a try if hens eggs turn out to be a goner.

today has been
B: LC hot choc
L: bone broth
D: spiced beef mince

oh, and a small Toblerone. Bit of an accident, really (if eating milk choc could ever be accidental), but i have to say it was a waste of taste buds. And money. Sickly and v poor depth of flavour. Oh how my taste buds have poshified. :D

How interesting. Must admit I’ve never linked the two, but will be on the lookout. It’s weird, BG has dropped all day, no matter what I’ve eaten. Yesterday I fasted much of the day and it just wouldn’t come down to its normal range.
