What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Beautiful day here - I hope its the same for everyone.

Apparently THAT alarm went off again a couple of times in the night but I slept through it this time. :joyful:

Anyone seen this singing policeman on BBC / Facebook? Absolutely brilliant!!!!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-52648942

Meals

Breakfast: usual omelette with carb free syrup (no surprise there then)
Lunch: usual Actimel drink and bit of Dolce Gorgonzola (no surprise there either)
Dinner: crispy fried tofu (without cornflour this time :meh: ) with a sort of spicy Chinese themed dipping sauce and a marinated vegetables sort of side salad with a bit of kimchi.

Glad to hear you slept through THAT alarm this time. You must have been tired!

Singing policeman - good for that man. He obviously has a lot of confidence. Not my kind of song, but good on him all the same.

My parcel of goodies arrived this afternoon in the post. All Atkins products - chick pea pasta, low carb crispbreads and "Endulge" peanut butter cups. Tried one of the peanut butter cups (9 g carb). Not keen on the taste - quite sickly really - and it has 3 artificial sugars in, which I haven't tried before, so I don't know what effect they will have. That's why I tried one really. For me, it's not a treat so, whatever the sweetener effect, I shan't be using them. I really would have been better to have just got some 100% chocolate and used that as a treat once in a while. Must do that. Trouble is, it is so good that I just eat it and don't use it as an occasional treat.

Brunch was 1 rasher of bacon, 2 slices of black pudding and 2 fried eggs. Very nice!

Dinner (if I feel up to it by then) will be smoked mackerel salad.

Oh dear, I really am feeling nauseous! Actually, my sore chest is back for the last couple of days, so it probably wasn't a good day to try anything new. The peanut butter cups are going into the bin anyway. Can't give them to anyone else - DIL also can't take any kind of sweeteners. Not going to risk giving them to Em or her brother - they'd scoff them happily but if they make me feel sick, it doesn't seem right to pass them on the anyone else.

Update:
Just ordered one little packet of 100% chocolate buttons from Montezuma's. Quite expensive with P&P but I don't want to buy more when even it might not suit. I might share them with Neil when they come - 100% chocolate should be allright for him, although he says he would be very happy with Ecuadorian chocolate but not so sure about any others. But beggars can't be choosers and it's the only 100% supplier I can find online at a reasonable price. They don't specify where their chocolate comes from.

Hi all
Beautiful sunny day today and also heard from a friend this morning that our local farm shop up the road had lots of garden plants in! Yay! Had wonderful hour after lunch - no one else there - choosing plants for the garden. They are now all in conservatory overnight until we are sure frost has gone! Hope to plant out most this weekend except for tomatoes as they are very vulnerable. Then sat with my cup of tea this afternoon in the sun for half an hour and imagined myself in Spain - my Facebook ‘memories say I was there one, two and three years ago- so just did some lovely memory recollections and sipped tea in the sun. Had had a chat this morning with my 89 year old mum about our holidays - she was with us- and we were due to go on a cruise next week from Southampton on the Queen Mary so she was a bit sad about it. But hoping to do something special sometime this year for her 90th which is a few days after Christmas.
Breakfast bacon, egg (double yoked) and half slice of lc toast.
Lunch vintage cheddar, Shropshire blue, celery and a few walnuts
Dinner chicken breast wrapped in bacon, halloumi fries, mushrooms in sauce and Worcestershire asparagus with glass of Chardonnay followed by lc lemon and lime jelly cream.

Evening all.

Went a bit overboard with cream/whipped creamy cheese yesterday. Back on the straight and narrow today.

Brunch was minced beef fried with onions, 2 eggs and a bit of grated cheese.
Dinner was thick cut ribeye steak from M&S, cooked in airfryer with a fried egg on top.

Breakfast:
Bowl of Quaker Oats Perfect Blend Multi-Grain Porridge (Raspberry, Apple & Acai)
250ml unsweetened soya drink
2 large hard-boiled eggs
3 Ryvita Pumpkin Seed & Oat crispbreads (with peanut butter)

Lunch
300ml New Covent Garden Creamy Vegetable soup
125g Mackerel fillets in extra virgin olive oil
150g reduced fat coleslaw
3 Ryvita Pumpkin Seed & Oat crispbreads (with peanut butter)
250g 0% fat Greek-style yogurt

Evening Meal
170g Scottish kippers
150g reduced fat coleslaw
3 Ryvita Pumpkin Seed & Oat crispbreads (with peanut butter)

I saw the item about Covid19 being in Edinburgh in February a couple of evenings ago! That was just shameful - not letting people know and not following it up to any great extent. What was said yesterday was that most of the participants were from other countries and those countries were informed so that they could trace contacts. To my mind that isn't an excuse; it makes it even worse! And anyway, it wasn't only the people at the conference who would have been affected - what about contamination in the hotel itself, what about the staff?

We were also told that there was no coronavirus on the Island until late March, but that was clearly not the case. So many people seem to have gone down with it (or if not, then something very like) in early March or even late February. Of course, we couldn't expect to miss it - there are so many here working offshore, students travelling to and from the mainland, islanders going to Inverness or Glasgow for shopping. A very high proportion of islanders move around a lot, and then there are the medics who come as consultants to the Western Isles hospital from other hospitals all over the country. All that could be said was that, until mid-March nobody had tested positive to the virus, because there was no testing.

On a food note - I still have quite a lot of broccoli spears left to use up and will have them today with salmon. I'm intending to make a kind of Asian sauce to go over them. Breakfast was mashed up raspberries and the last of the cream in the big pot I had. Then a small mandarin orange. At the moment I have it in my mind to make some small spinakopita with cabbage leaves instead of filo pastry. I'll need to wait until Friday to see if I can get some spinach to do that though. I seem to spend a lot of my time imagining dishes that I could make these days. Probably not a great idea to be obsessed with food. But that's probably par for the course when one is trying not to eat too much.

I have been giving the grocery box food - other than tinned tomatoes (and pasta for Neil) to No 2 son for his family and they have been taking some out of it and taking the rest in for the food bank. Seems like a good way to use it, but I still wish they would stop delivering it.
It's got worse since then. They didn't tell the Hotel about the outbreak until 4 March - 5 days after the conference. How many people stayed at the hotel in these few days? What about the staff ir guests there at the same time? It's also come out that 2 delegates took the infection back to Teeside & Oxford. To top it all it turns out that other people who work in the same building as the people concerned were sharing a small lift with them and no one contacted them. You have to wonder just how many were infected by this one outbreak as it was 1 person that infected 25.
I think I'm so annoyed because I've been ill so long and have no idea whether it is the virus because I can't get tested. This is total lack of care.
Yesterday bed 7.3 FBG 6.3. I'm a bit breathless again and didn't have a very good night. Son wanted to go shopping so I took him but stayed in the car. Town is still the same, you wouldn't know the difference to a normal day.
B. TAG and 2 slices of skinny bread - one with Dairylea and with pate.
L. Nothing.
D. Leftover Kung Po beef from yesterday with cauliflower rice. Later 2 bits 85% and still later 1/3 of large tub Skyr.

@Goonergal good idea. That is definitely small enough for the spit roast.

Breakfast: 2x CWC , but granola. Not hungry so nothing more.
Made a phone call and soon got reply,
man is coming to see what he can do about the drive. Bringing his shovel and wheelbarrow with him.
Made a LC cake and ate two small slices.one with CWC. Not convinced it is nice enough to offer to others. Possibly five mins too long in the oven? Was a bit dry.
Lunch: another piece of cake and more coffee. man had not brought lunch and insisted he only wanted coffee. Gave him cake anyway, which he ate. Cold sausage from the fridge for me.
Later another sausage. Microwaved some carrots and beans saved from yesterday, added butter and black pepper, called it dinner.
Glass of wine. Later a other

Dear goodness! I hadn't realised it was that bad. No wonder you are so annoyed. I'm afraid this whole thing has been mismanaged (if it wasn't a deliberate cover-up). Of course, it was a novel situation, but that is what emergency planning/crisis management is supposed to be about. It's sad, but it seems to me that there is a level of incompetence in all areas these days. Of course, it may be that errors didn't come to light so easily in "the good old days". But I think my generation, and my parents' generation, were a lot less incompetent. (I'm biased of course)

Tried one of the Atkins crispbreads - it was OK as a platform for some butter but doesn't stand alone. Actually, I note that it also has some almond in it - which could very well be an issue for me, but I'm already feeling poorly after the peanut thing.

I did have my smoked mackerel salad with a dressing made from the left-over sauce from yesterday. Still feeling headachy and nauseous, but that's all so far.

Evening all. No food until around 2pm. Bit of a disastrous morning when Dennis snaffled a couple of fruited tea cakes and had to be rushed to the vet to be given an emetic. Wouldn’t be so bad but they were free tea cakes as they were out of date, but the vet bill was £59! Daughter had eaten one and said they weren’t very nice but didn’t put the rest in the bin or far enough back on the counter to stop him getting them.
Lunch eventually was LoDough wrap with smoked salmon, prawns and cream cheese then a lc custard.
Dinner https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/bacon-wrapped-chicken-breast-with-cauliflower-puree if anyone fancies something different with cauliflower, and you like garlic, this is for you. I really liked it. 2 glasses red.
@Annb I’m the same with chocolate, have you tried freezing it in portion sizes?
@shelley262 I’m glad you had such a peaceful day but so sorry about your not upcoming cruise. I do hope you’ll be able to arrange something later in the year.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and raspberry phd bar.
Late Lunch: 2 x Babybels followed by Greek yoghurt, lemon chia pudding and LC vanilla and raspberry granola.
Dinner: cheddar, mushroom and cherry tomato omelette followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.

Breakfast: Three egg, cheese and mushroom omelette, bacon, tomatoes.
Lunch: Toasted cheese sandwich.
Dinner: Goat chops, veggies, gravy.

Drinks: Black coffee, water.

Rang the PBS safety net bell yesterday (48 scripts - $320.00), so free 'scripts and strips for the rest of the year. One of my COPD medications (Airomir) is unavailable till when ever. Good job I have some stockpiled to keep me going to till I get an alternative.

Just wondering what the problem was with Dennis and the fruited teacakes? Is it something dogs can't eat or did he eat too many? The only things my dogs aren't allowed to eat is onions and chocolate but I'm always very happy to be educated. Having said that, I can't remember any of them having eaten dried fruit but they eat plenty of it fresh.

Food today

Breakfast: two fried eggs on buttered Burgen toast
Lunch: yup, you've guessed it usual Actimel drink and a bit of Lidl Dolce Gorgonzola
Dinner: Mum's salad - cheese, eggs, quorn eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, cucumber, beetroot and some Jersey Royal new potatoes drowned in melted butter - quantity depending on what my BGs are doing at the time.

A naughty glass (or three) of wine

I rang up to order my meds on Wednesday and was told there would be a delay in the order being processed - instead of two days it will be a 7-10 days before they are delivered. Luckily, like you, I have a month's worth of meds stockpiled - my mini stockpile is from when we were all told that Brexit might cause medication delays - OMG that seems like another lifetime ago!

Just had breakfast - 2 slices of black pudding and 2 fried eggs.

It's shopping day today and I've given Ms V a long list of things but didn't ask her to pick up the order from the butcher. I'm doing that myself because the car needs to be used. Neil went out to try to start it yesterday, but the new battery had gone flat! It's been sitting there for 3 weeks or more without moving. So he eventually got it going (he had a gadget to support the battery from the mains) and took it for a drive around to get it warmed up and charging for itself. But he says it will need to be driven every few days to stop it seizing up. So I volunteered to pick up the order from the butcher every week and that should help.

This evening's meal will be liver and bacon - the butcher phoned to say they only have frozen lamb's liver, so I'll make today's meal with it and also make some liver pate, which can then be put into the freezer. I was going to use the chicken, but that will have to wait - maybe tomorrow.

Morning All,

forgot to post yesterday, and struggling to remember what I ate. Lol

think it was

B: bovril and lc hot choc
L: don’t think I had anything... which explains why I can’t remember
D: more keema mince. Last portion. Sorry to see it go

today will has/will be/en

B: lchotchoc
L: scram eggs with chorizo
D: chicken stir fried with whatever spices Mr B requests. And butter.

He nipped to Tescos at 6.30am this morning. The hero.
Came back with a range of goodies, whilst cursing the fact he forgot 2 things he needed for his packed lunches.

no work for either of us til Monday. Bliss.

Yes - these days it 's wise to have some meds in hand. I have about 3 weeks worth of insulin and more than a month's of other meds - but only 2 weeks of test strips. We were warned that prescriptions might take 7 days to be processed, but so far, they have been sent to our pharmacy within 2 days, but just as well to keep some in hand, in case it all goes wrong.

As you say, Brexit seems so long ago now - it's almost beyond living memory. Still waiting for my oxymeter to arrive - they are obviously very popular and there seem to be long waiting times for them. What did arrive was my oak woodchips for smoking fish - hope Ms V manages to get some white fish today in the supermarket. Must get Neil to get one of the biscuit boxes down from on top of my wardrobe, which I can no longer reach.

It’s the raisins in the tea cakes. Lethal fo some dogs but there’s know way of knowing which dogs will be affected. The vet said a single raisin could be bad news for one, yet another could eat 30 with no ill effects. He also ate too many tbh. 2 whole buns in as many seconds - vet said they came up pretty much whole too. I managed to fish the third out of his mouth after a game of chase - no way was he going to do ‘drop’!)
How did your BG react to those Jersey Royals? I do miss them, not bothered about any other spud. Did you cook and chill them first?

Really interesting about the raisins, I've never heard of that. Mr C now tells me that he often shares teacakes hot x buns and scones with the dogs but not when I'm around.

The Jersey Royals are for dinner tonight (depending on BGs), I'll let you know how I get on with them. x

Just back from the trip to the butcher - almost everything I wanted - just one kidney missing, but But I was astonished to note my reaction to moving around (admittedly in the wind) - found it very hard to get my breath and felt very wobbly. Need to get everything put away and sit in the kitchen chair for a rest - probably go to sleep.

Ms V just arrived with my shopping. She managed to get most of what I wanted, so all's well. Neil wants to put the shopping away, so I'll have to go and check what actually is there.
