What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb - good to read that you are feeling a bit better today :)

My FBG was back up in the 8s this morning. I have no idea why or what made yesterday so different. (It was 5.8 when I went to bed last night.)

Breakfast: plain omelette with carb free syrup
Lunch: Ryvita with smashed avocado if I can find one that is suitably ripe if I can't then it will be Ryvita with Longley Farm cottage cheese
Dinner: quorn fillets, small amount of roast carrots and parsnips, chard, cauliflower and gravy. I wish I could have sage and onion stuffing with it but I can't think how to make a low carb vegetarian one. Funny the things that we miss.
Dessert will be raspberries (they are still fruiting well in the garden)

I'm actually quite looking forward to fasting next week.

Just found this one online. Looks OK. Never made it because I dislike sage.

Breakfast : 2x CWC, nut granola.
CWC
Lunch: 2 slices toast with rillettes. Salad. Water and tea.
Dinner pork and Apple casserole. Carrots and beans. A vegetable galette. Vanilla pudding, with cream and raspberries. Water and wine.
Snacks: Couple of spoonfuls peanut butter, one square dark chocolate.
Feeling a bit sheepish about my outburst yesterday. Have been feeling quite depressed for several days and it all came out in a bit of a rant. Things are not really so bad, having identified the trigger for my feelings, the spectre of Clinical Depression has faded away. Haven't been able to do much either. Hiding in books or my online game. Today am much better. Managed to cut the grass. Made pork and apple casserole as well, but didnt make nut granola so will be scratching round for breakfast. Plan now is to make two batches and try to keep one in hand.
The way you felt was hardly surprising. You've had so much to deal with with Mr Slim being away for so long. Although he's returned, which has made things easier, there is still lots of emotions to deal with. Been there myself when Hubby had to work in the USA for a while and despite my job taking me away too it was odd and mixed up emotions.

Bed yesterday Friday 6.8 FBG 6.2. Friday was quite windy but very humid here too @Chook. @Annb - sorry to read that you're sick. Is it possible you've picked up a bug? Eldest grandson had one a few weeks back and Hubby was floored a couple of weeks ago. Friday was a good day! That woman appeared to collect child but she's keeping her head well down now and avoiding contact since she knows it was hers who caused the problem. No apology but that doesn't surprise me. Anyway, eldest said to brother in the morning "You know, that sounds right what Mum & Nana said. Teachers would want naughty boys at the front where they can grab them quickly". Result! No 2 remained at the rear of the queue, stayed with friends, earned all his stars and his first Certificate for this year (although he won't get that until Monday as they have to be laminated due to Covid). He is now fired up and raring to beat last year's record of 100 certificates in just 3 terms. No 1 also had a happy nerve free days. Feels like a weight has lifted.
B. TAG and a slice of LC toast with pate.
L. Nothing - lunch time pick up, boys to feed then off shopping with son.
D. 3 skinless lemon sole, pan-fried in butter with lemon and wilted spinach. A small prosecco to celebrate good day! Scoop of Halo Top raspberry cheesecake and raspberries.

I think my stomach problems are just a continuation of my usual digestive difficulties - we'll see what happens when/if I get results from my FIT test. Probably connected.

I actually felt hungry again about 12.30, so had some tinned fish (taking my example from Neil who uses it to help his Crohn's). Didn't do much for me but only felt slightly nauseous and it is passing. BG 12.5 before hand. I'll check again in half an hour to see what effect the new insulin had this time.

Yes, I was like that when Mr C was sent away on a secondment - horrible.

Leftover post from Friday:
@Annb ugh I'm so sorry you are feeling awful-- hopes for improvement very soon!
@DJC3 you have the most wonderful DH! Sorry about all the driving... hope things improved for your presence!
@Goonergal I always have a used plastic spoon or two in my purse! You are very very civilised to decant the cream into a cup!!
@shelly262 I like your unbalanced plant!
@Rachox hurray for the feet's (and thus your) better day!!
Food:
Bfast/lunch (before&after noon barre class) avocado, pecan butter, boiled egg, flax crisps/dilute soymilk, making a tuna/cheese noodle casserole+coffee-spice cookies for a post-shoulder op friend and her family, so you may guess there was some tasting of the tuna/cheese sauce and the dough
Supper wilted spinach/hm dressing, 2 boiled eggs, flax crisps/dilute soymilk

Evening all.

Another OMAD day - very easy when out walking all day as I don’t seem to get hungry until I stop.

Dinner was Nando’s take out - plain wings and 2 portions of halloumi followed by dessert of extra thick double cream with about 1.5 ‘squares’ of Lindt 85%.

@zauberflote I must be very posh as not only did I use the (disposable) plastic cup again, but I have brought with me a set of travel cutlery (proper metal stuff!) and a couple of teaspoons plus a china mug - part of the ‘Covid’ routine at this hotel is to have replaced china cups with paper ones and teaspoons with wooden stirrers. Suspect it’s more to do with having fewer staff on duty rather than any safety concerns.

So interesting what people are eating, and all with different 'challenges'. Lots of tips to pick up on this thread :)

Crispy streaky bacon and 2 scrambled eggs (no cream or milk added), and merely a 1/4 teaspoon of HP sauce (one day I'll ween myself totally off it).... 2g of carbs for breakfast.

Wasn't going to have lunch, except my husband decided he wanted cheese and ryvitas while watching cricket which 'set me off'. I finished off a couple of fillets of peppered smoked mackerel that needed eating up. 1.6g carbs.

Dinner was cod and cauli.... now that was a challenge to make these two appetising, especially as I've ran out of cream! Cod was gently steamed after the cauli was steamed, while I sauted 3 chopped spring onions in avocado oil. When softened a rather 'lot' of shredded cheese was added to the pan, mustard, salt and pepper was the seasoning; when the cheese had melted chopped cauli was stirred in..... quite a tasty result. Dinner was under 5g carbs.

I've stopped buying onions, it's far too easy to over do the carbs, so I've taken to using spring onions also using their stalks, they're much more manageable for counting the carbs.

Evening all. Today’s meal timings were all out of kilter so tomorrow won’t be a 30hr fast. Can’t be helped.
Late breakfast of bacon eggs and mushrooms.
Late lunch of roast beef salad with Hb egg, cheese cubes, avo, 2 cherry toms, 1dill pickle ( this sounds like the Very Hungry Caterpillar). Then a DGF raspberry bakewell and cream.

Evenin’ All

Just had a big adventure with No3.
Me, the scooter and No 3 had gone out for an evening sprint - about 3 miles long.
Just as we were at the furthest part of the circuit, the heavens opened. Stair rods. Monsoon downpour.
No3 was horrified! Normally she would rather pee on the floor inside the back door than go out in the rain (brat!) so this was awful for her. She tried to climb onto the scooter to get away from the rain. Hahaha!
Of course, I was mean and horrible and made her run on. We sheltered under a tree for a bit, but the rain was so heavey that it really made no difference.
When we got home (looking like 2 drowned rats) Mr B was on the doorstep waiting for us - laughing hard. Especially when the rain stopped at that precise moment! Haha!
He said
‘I rang you on your mobile, to offer to fetch you in the car, but you didn’t pick up.’
I replied
‘I heard it ring, but it was raining too hard to get the phone out. It would have been soaked in seconds. Thanks though.’
The good thing is that the scooter is obviously weather proof! Hahaha!

B: kefir and bovril with collagen
L: w egg cheese omelette
S: Lindt
D: ham and cheese rollups.
Good job there aren’t any crisps in the house. I could murder some salt and vinegar!

A v inactive day. I’m saving my knee capacity for another adventure next week.

Sorry to laugh, but I felt similarly one day, recently, when caught out whilst going around a plant nursery.

Could you have answered your phone on your watch, or was it too wet for that too?

Last nights M&S curry and tinned cocktail only gave me a rise of 2, testing after 2 and 3 hours (couldn't test after 1 hour as was still eating :joyful:) so maybe just maybe the odd 'treat/deviation' doesnt matter, eh @SlimLizzy ?

Lunch was more of a challenge. Went into one pub garden where had to order by app, but the app never loaded, so they sent us an email but that didn't work either so left and went to next pub. They wanted order by app :banghead: so we turned tail and found a cafe staffed by real people who could write on a notepad. :writer:

Everything, literally everything was carb based and after a week of sensible choices, and with @SlimLizzy in mind I actually ordered a panini. Was very well filled with spinach, mozzerella and pesto. We had walked 45 minutes there, walked around town for 30 minutes and had a 45 min walk back, and had not got my meter with me. So no idea of effect, but I am refusing to feel guilty or bad. It was the last meal of the holiday.

I did feel a bit heavy and full quicker than I do on low carb but that was it, the heavens didn't open, I wasn't smitten down and no one else noticed or pointed fingers.

D salad and a sausage.... normal service resumes:)

@SlimLizzy glad you've identified your trigger-- I just recently read on my dementia forum of a caregiver who'd been dx with "situational depression" which made so much sense it's a wonder the medical profession has ever discovered it! I had to look up rillettes, the US Wikipedia article appears to have been translated from the French by Google at a few points. "The pig's the brown jam" for example PS my menus are orders of magnitude more boring than you say yours are! All Those Veggies!!
@Annb glad you are on the mend! I could eat scrambled eggs all day, they are so satisfying!
@Chook for stuffing, I might start with a flax-based herbed bread, make croutons of it somehow, sauté the onions in fat of choice, and use a vegetable stock. The flax bread I make is very heavy, but as it is mostly flax with only a little almond and chia, it's quite LC. If I had a craving for stuffing and were willing to put in the work, I think that would keep me happy.
@maglil what a relief. I like how the boys can work together!
@Goonergal you ARE very posh! Can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel with real cups/flatware. Not counting the dozens of stays at a TownePlace (Marriott) which had actual kitchens in the rooms I chose. We could feed Mom in a quiet ambiance and "see Paris" out the window. The view made her think of Paris although she'd never been there.
@JenniferM55 aside from the fact that I detest and despise the flavor of cod, your dinner sounds delicious! The sauce minus cheese would be nice on any mild white fish. Did I mention, I hate cod? I never thought of using spring onions-- I soooo miss onions! Thanks for the hint!
@Brunneria that is a story for sure. Valiant #3! Good for her and the waterproof scooter.
@MrsA2 good for you on the panini. No Guilt last holiday meal. Had I had a vacation, there definitely would have been "ice cream from Jimmy's".

Impromptu visit to Mum’s today, to see how she’s doing alone, daughter drove as I can’t drive til my stitches are out of my feet, so portable lunch needed!
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a
black coffee.
Elevenses: black coffee with raspberry phd bar.
Lunch: prawn cocktail and pork scratchings followed by SF jelly and cream.
Dinner, Chinese takeaway crispy duck, two pancakes, a smidge of sauce and cucumber and spring onions followed by SF orange jelly and chocolate Oppo ice cream.

It can be so difficult when the person you are closest to, and who you depend on for so much, has to be somewhere else for a long time. I'm pretty sure it has a similar effect on that other person as well. I know my husband used to be so distressed when he had to go back to sea and leave myself and the boys behind, and we usually found that all 3 of us would go down with some ailment in the first week - obviously stress left us open to anything that was going. Stress can be a horrible thing.
