What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Rachox lesson learned, eh. I hope the pain fades into the sunset very soon!
@DJC3 keep the faith, woman, keep the faith! (ZF sneaks off to look up those cakes....)

Strange day here - very windy but humid, too! Even stranger is that, for the first time in months, I had a FBG in the 6s!! Okay it was 6.8 but I'm still pleased!! :singing:

The dogs got to the windfall crab apples again - so another day with musical tummies.

@DJC3 - LOL - I remember the Asda delivery on the Friday I finished that 5 day fast was absolutely massive because as I got a craving for something I just added it to the order. Note to self: arrange next order on Sunday after brunch then don't play around with it!

So, today

Breakfast: plain omelette with carb free syrup

Lunch: Longley Farm cream cheese on Ryvita

Dinner: crustless cheese and onion quiche, red cabbage coleslaw (and maybe one or two of Mr C's chips depending on what my BGs are doing at the time)

I'm looking forward to a glass or two of red wine this evening

An unintentional 27 hour fast (so far).

Came back from my eye appointment yesterday, feeling very tired and pretty sore all over, with a slightly touchy stomach, so I sat for a while and fell asleep. Woke up about half an hour later feeling nauseous, which soon turned into full on vomiting. Went to bed to try to feel a bit better. Plans for food went by the board for the rest of the day and I still can't eat anything today. Just on fluids and even that is a bit dodgy. Got up at 6 but have been dozing in the chair for the last 6 hours.

Not sure what the cause is but it has happened sometimes in the past when I have gone too long without food - stomach gets a bit stroppy and won't play the game. Since I'm feeling able to be up and sitting at the laptop, there's a hope that I'll feel better in a while and be able to eat something. BG is high all through this, probably because I've taken no insulin since yesterday.

@Annb so sorry to hear you had such a rough time yesterday and hope you have worked it through. today had a highish FBG after fishfinger Thursday!
Breakfast was my usual slice HiLo toast, butter, tea.
Lunch was avocado spring onion cherry toms (3) and cucumber all chopped up with a sprinkle of salt and tin of mackerel. Very tasty.
Supper will be chicken curry & cauli rice.

@Chook I had a couple of glasses red with my dinner too, perfect.
@Annb sorry to hear you are still so poorly. I hope you feel better soon.
Only dinner today so another 30hr fast completed. Today was easier from fasting POV thanks to a couple of unconnected family emergencies which meant I spent the whole day driving ( aka stuck in Truro holiday traffic)
Dinner finally was pork tenderloin stuffed with mozzarella and ranch seasoning, and wrapped in bacon. Followed by h/m yoghurt and choc granola.
An amusing ( to me at any rate) end to a horrible day was Mr C’s gravy - he likes gravy with everything and I usually put a spoonful of granules in 1/2 a mug of boiling water. Did the same today and only when I cleared the plates did I notice the gravy still by the kettle - completely untouched. It turned out I’d given him a leftover mug of black coffee instead of gravy, it was in an identical mug, I fessed up afterwards and he said it was cold and horrible but he didn’t like to say anything as it had been such a difficult day. Bless him! I’m still laughing though.

@DJC3 hug for the day in general but funny for Mr C and the coffee :hilarious:. Your dinner sounds good.

I’ve been about as far away from fasting as it’s possible to be today :D

Woke up hungry and succumbed to the eggs in the fridge around 8am, plus a small piece of cheese.

Lunch was at a cafe - menu looked adaptable but it turned out to be one of those places asking you to use QR codes to check the menu and order online. All very well if you’re used to doing such things on phones and don’t want to make lots of adjustments to the menu (no options to remove bread etc). Ended up having to order from the kids menu which allowed you to build your own meal. Settled for 2 fried eggs, 3 rashers bacon and a side of grilled Halloumi.

Dinner was from the hot counter in Morrison’s - 2 chicken legs for £2.20. Bargain! Dessert was extra thick double cream (did you really think I could go to Morrison’s and only buy chicken legs:D) and Lindt 85% served in a plastic cup - not much crockery in the hotel room!

In between a couple of Kind bars.

@DJC3 feel very sorry for your family emergencies and traffic chaos must be so so annoying but me and my OH laughed I must admit at youserving cold coffee instead of hot gravy! My OH also likes gravy but thankfully he tends to do his own!@Annb sorry to hear about your poor health you seem to be having some difficult days do take care
@Goonergal sounds like you are being very inventive in your hotel room. Can imagine it’s all a lot harder to sort out a low carb option using an app to order.
@Rachox hope you are looking after yourself and recovering

Very windy odd day too a bit humid but leaving doors and windows open meant lots of loud crashes! Busy day sorting and preparing as family visitors arriving from the am including the family dog Cooper all to celebrate OHs birthday. Will be a catch up here on Sunday or Monday as will be too hectic.
Breakfast exercises - HIT, resistance and stretching. Found my balance exercises difficult today as usually fix my eyes on a plant while I balance but it was blowing around in wind so kept losing my balance!
Lunch one slice of LC toast with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon
Mid pm DGF chocolate brownie
Dinner sea bass with lemon butter - I just do foil parcel with lemon and butter - see photo -and stick in oven for same time as my celeriac chips plus asparagus and glass of dry white wine with soda then pudding a few garden berries and cream

Better day with my feet, I took painkillers as and when I needed and managed to stay awake all day!
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and peanut phd bar.
Late Lunch: Pork scratchings followed by Greek yoghurt, blackberries and vanilla and raspberry LC granola.
Dinner: prawn cocktail, pork scratchings, leafy salad, and coleslaw followed by DGF salted caramel brownie, cream and LC chocolate granola.

Evenin’ All!

forgot breakfast (it was a strange morning, since The Mutts and I spent the night in the front room on the sofa bed, since Mr B had a horrendously early start).
Then some choc :D
L: think I forgot that too... certainly can’t remember eating...
S: out for a Pack Walk with Mr B when he got home. Pit stop at a cafe he likes, and they had an almond flour GF raspberry cake (and rather measly portions), so I has a slice. It caused a libre blip of less than 2mmol/l. The walk was too far for Mutt1. He did really well, stuck with it, and completed the circuit. The Wee Hero. He has been absolutely flat out since, so tomorrow he gets the day off.
D:Tescos meal deal curry. The Libre screen is looking good, so far.

not the best day ever, but bg has been ok, and back to home cooked ‘real’ food tomorrow.

Last full day of our mini holiday today.
Cold salmon and salad for lunch but it came with a dill mustard dressing which was very nice but I had no idea what was in it
Dinner was a bit of a "off the wagon" treat of 2 M&S curries with 2 tablepsoons of rice and added fresh veg but I had had a small cocktail and 3 windfall plums as a starter so am monitoring with interest.

@Chook & @DJC3 well done on the fasting - all the better you are seeing results!

@Annb & @Rachox Take it easy and rest up

@Goonergal you made me laugh with the kiddies meal - good thinking batman

@shelley262 hope you enjoy family time

Strange day food wise - bits and bobs and mainly what was to be used up in the fridge - most out of date today

Brunch - what was left of the egg and bacon roll with a large mug of earl grey and double cream and oh 2 squares of 90% lindtt dark chocolate (it's never too early for chocolate or is it)

Dinner - prawn cocktail, mussels, last of coleslaw sandwiched in between 2 squares of black pepper cheddar cheese, 2 squares of 100% black montezumas mint, last of extra thick double cream, mug of earl grey and double cream.

I didn't think I had eaten that much today until I have listed it all - it was mostly low carb and finished off tonight with long walk to hopefully walk some of it off.

Really pleased with myself tonight - I have made progress - my boys had takeaway pizza delivered and I resisted - I don't seem to be as hungry these days.

Planning on maybe doing OMAD tomorrow as I have a late lunch/early dinner date at one of my favourite restaurants so depending on how I feel in the morning, hopefully I will manage it.

Well done for resisting the pizza, even if I wasn’t hungry I think the smell would tempt me to have ‘just a little bit’.

I must confess I am usually tempted with the smell and have a little bit and I think that is why I am so pleased with myself tonight - the boys are at an age they often have takeaways and it has been very hard to resist at times but I think now I have reached a point where I have to be strong to say NO to myself - temptation is now gone - empty box is in the bucket - thank goodness!:hungry:

20.08.2020
Breakfast : 2x CWC, nut granola.
CWC
Lunch: 2 slices toast with rillettes. Salad. Water and tea.
Dinner pork and Apple casserole. Carrots and beans. A vegetable galette. Vanilla pudding, with cream and raspberries. Water and wine.
Snacks: Couple of spoonfuls peanut butter, one square dark chocolate.
Feeling a bit sheepish about my outburst yesterday. Have been feeling quite depressed for several days and it all came out in a bit of a rant. Things are not really so bad, having identified the trigger for my feelings, the spectre of Clinical Depression has faded away. Haven't been able to do much either. Hiding in books or my online game. Today am much better. Managed to cut the grass. Made pork and apple casserole as well, but didnt make nut granola so will be scratching round for breakfast. Plan now is to make two batches and try to keep one in hand.

21,08.2020
Breakfast: CWC x2
CWC
Lunch 2 Ham slices rolled around macedoine salad, about a dozen cherry toms, the size of peas, cucumber, water and tea.
Coffee and chocolate biscuits in the afternoon.
Dinner, pork and apple casserole, carrots, French beans and courgettes roared with herbs and parmesan. MrSlim had a baked potato with his. I am proud to be able to say that all the vegetables, including the onion in the casserole came from the garden. Won't be like that for long though, both types of beans are pretty well over and I didn't plant a lot of carrots or onions.
@DCUKMod @Annb @MrsA2 @DJC3 thank you for your comments, I do usually manage with occasional treats. But it's more difficult since MrSlims return because the dietary requirements for his health condition are opposite to mine, so we have to have bread, cake, biscuits, potatoes, rice and pasta, in the house. Sometimes the aroma of fresh bread is overwhelming.
@zauberflote You could be right, but I have moved many times in my life, I am finding being unable to return to Uk yet again, very difficult. The new UK quarantine restrictions make it almost impossible for us to visit.
@maglil55 I need to get back to cooking as well. You seem to make an sorts of delicious sounding meals. My menu is boring in comparison.

.... Sometimes the aroma of fresh bread is overwhelming.

Why not have it then? You are living with pre-diabetes, and seemingly able to with some carbs in your life, so why deny yourself anything, needlessly?

In my world, when I was trying to work out what I could and couldn't do, I didn't buy any of the "bread, rice, pasta, blah, blah stuff. I don't need to be told what to do. I need to have pointers, then make my own decisions, based on my own results, to make my life balance.

....The new UK quarantine restrictions make it almost impossible for us to visit.....

If you were visiting in your motor home , you could quarantine in someone's drive, or at a camp site/field, then go about your business on a visit.

For things like shopping, aside from farmer's fields, I bet the online supermarkets will deliver almost anywhere, and similarly with Amazon, and so on. provided they can find it, they'll deliver there.

If you had to similarly quarantine on return, knowing that, you could be well-stocked before leaving and fill up the camper with stuff before leaving UP, ready for the lock-in that end?

I probably sound horrible, but my outlook on like is it's strewn with bumps in the road, but usually that just means a bit of forward planning and maybe doing things in a different way. You seem tormented by it all.

Of course, we all have differing appetites for "challenges" and undoubtedly risk, but are you under any time constraints for your visits?

Feeling hemmed in isn't nice and it can be damaging, but there are often way, albeit involving compromises to either accepting it, or getting around it.

Finally managed to eat something after about 33 hours. I began to feel that I could eat, although I didn't want to, but I thought that I should since I had only had a fried egg at the beginning of the problem. So I made myself some scrambled egg, loosened with a little double cream. It was enough. BG just before bed was 15!

FBG this morning was 9.8. At 10.15, I had a mashed up avocado with a couple of RyVita. Today is the first day of my new insulin so I was told to start off with 20 units and hope BG doesn't go too high. So we shall see.

I think I'll stick to eggs and maybe some bacon later - those are usually fairly reliable and I don't want to repeat the last 2 days. I wonder if I lost any weight due to not eating at all. I didn't swell up so much with fluid, so that was a bonus.

@Annb - good to read that you are feeling a bit better today :)

My FBG was back up in the 8s this morning. I have no idea why or what made yesterday so different. (It was 5.8 when I went to bed last night.)

Breakfast: plain omelette with carb free syrup
Lunch: Ryvita with smashed avocado if I can find one that is suitably ripe if I can't then it will be Ryvita with Longley Farm cottage cheese
Dinner: quorn fillets, small amount of roast carrots and parsnips, chard, cauliflower and gravy. I wish I could have sage and onion stuffing with it but I can't think how to make a low carb vegetarian one. Funny the things that we miss.
Dessert will be raspberries (they are still fruiting well in the garden)

I'm actually quite looking forward to fasting next week.

Bed yesterday Friday 6.8 FBG 6.2. Friday was quite windy but very humid here too @Chook. @Annb - sorry to read that you're sick. Is it possible you've picked up a bug? Eldest grandson had one a few weeks back and Hubby was floored a couple of weeks ago. Friday was a good day! That woman appeared to collect child but she's keeping her head well down now and avoiding contact since she knows it was hers who caused the problem. No apology but that doesn't surprise me. Anyway, eldest said to brother in the morning "You know, that sounds right what Mum & Nana said. Teachers would want naughty boys at the front where they can grab them quickly". Result! No 2 remained at the rear of the queue, stayed with friends, earned all his stars and his first Certificate for this year (although he won't get that until Monday as they have to be laminated due to Covid). He is now fired up and raring to beat last year's record of 100 certificates in just 3 terms. No 1 also had a happy nerve free days. Feels like a weight has lifted.
B. TAG and a slice of LC toast with pate.
L. Nothing - lunch time pick up, boys to feed then off shopping with son.
D. 3 skinless lemon sole, pan-fried in butter with lemon and wilted spinach. A small prosecco to celebrate good day! Scoop of Halo Top raspberry cheesecake and raspberries.

I find pizza quite easy to resist. When my sister was alive we spent a lot of time in Italy and nothing, I mean nothing tastes as good as a pizza made in Italy. It was in pre diabetic days. I did try pizza here but it was never the same.
My search for a LC pizza base that matches my memories continues though. You have inspired me to dig out what I need for another of my Italian memories - Suppli and this I did work out a low carb version.
These are the delicious rice balls, with lots of stringy mozzarella, pancetta, sometimes sugo and deep fried in a crispy coating.
My version involves cauliflower rice cooked in chicken stock. Once cooled, mix with cooked pancetta bits, chopped mozzarella, parmesan and form balls or oblong. Dip in beaten egg then I use my crumb mix of almond flour, golden milled flax and parmesan plus sesame seeds. If you like some heat you can add chilli to the "rice" mix. They do better being frozen before deep frying or, at very least, refrigerated.
