What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: scrambled egg with ham and cheese, but my host put a load of fruit on the side. Picked out the blueberries, ate the mango (it was delicious), gave rest to hubby
Late lunch. 2 oysters then prawns tacos in tortilla wraps. Drank water only . Bg peaked at 10
Very late dinner: Mexican restauant where everything comes with rice and beans. Ordered steak and onions which turned out to be mince. I only ate 2 mouthfuls of the rice and beans.Trouble was I picked at the corn chips and salsa so shot straight up to 10.
My host (a long lost cousin) has no idea of carbs and its my choice not to enlighten him.
Moving on tomorrow, think next host's have more understanding of low carb

Welcome home Antje. Became a grandmother for the 3rd time 3 days ago.I would have liked to have bought myself big box of chocs and eat them all. But thank God I didnt.
so bacon and egg this morning before going for my HbaIc later on after being on the low carb diet for 3 months now
Just hope it has come down.

Morning All, that M&S Chicken Shawarma looks interesting, will seek it out in our Simply Food though they don’t stock the full range. I wouldn’t like the sauce but Mr PM would. I could just have a spoon of Fage instead.
yesterday I had my usual brekkie with slice LC toast and copious tea.
lunch was out with a lovely elderly friend not at the tea shop we had planned as it was closed so went to nearby garden centre cafe. I chose bacon and mushroom quiche with salad but ate less than half as it was one of those individual ones that are mostly pastry and when you hollow it out its a bit pointless. A wedge of quiche is much more LC friendly. Supper was tom & chilli meatballs with cauli rice.
this morning after repeat brekkie am making broccoli and leek soup for lunch and this evening will be omelettes as have eggs out of date today, either ham & mushroom or. chorizo & red pepper diced.
New pet hate lots of makers have ditched click lids on yogurt, coleslaw etc meaning once opened it spoils faster so we get plastic saving at the cost of food waste and inconvenient. And I know I can transfer it to a pot of my own or use cling film but it just niggles me. I am also not a fan of removing best before dates as I shop weekly I would like to put my ‘use first’ fresh food in front in the fridge. Another thing which may well lead to food waste IMO. Anyone agree?

Those lids are missing because it saves the manufacturer money - not because it helps either the customer or the planet. I have silicone lids which fit most of the pots - one the right size for 500-600 ml and one for the 150-250 ml size. Dates is an issue but I just make sure to store things behind ones already there. I wouldn't say they never get mixed up, but it works most of the time.

Had my steak yesterday evening - nothing else with it to save digestive problems. Enjoyed it but for some reason BG rose from 6.5 before eating to 9.5 after. Still higher than I want this morning (11.9 rising to 12.4 before breakfast).

Breakfast was 2 slices of Lorne sausage with cheese melted onto them. Took insulin beforehand and BG has dropped to 10.4 now.

Congratulations on becoming a Grandmother again.
Fingers crossed for your HbA1c, I do hope more congratulations are due in a few days when you get your results.

@PenguinMum I have to agree with @Annb - getting rid of the plastic lids is doubly annoying because it’s all about cost cutting posturing as saving the planet. No chance of the savings being passed down to the consumer. I also have some of those stretchy silicone covers I use for opened tin cans and bowls of leftovers. I Hadn’t thought of using them on pots of cream though.
Todays food-
B- ham, h/b eggs, cottage cheese. Loads of coffee
L- M&S rollitos followed by h/m yoghurt seeds and berries.
D- chicken fajita traybake with salad and chilli mayo. IMG_1134.jpg

Me 4! M&S sell silicone lids specifically designed for the 2 most common sizes of cream pot. I bought some but also have quite a large stash of plastic lids gathered as I realised they were gradually being phased out. 300ml cream at once is a lot even for me! I like the M&S ones as they’re exactly the right size - experiments with some Ikea bought ones didn’t go well as they were a bit tight and the pots a bit flimsy…..

Anyway, back on topic. No pics today as the ones I took were blurred!

Meal 1 was 2 slices of Schneider Brot protein bread; one with butter and one with butter and almond butter.
Meal 2 was a 4 egg omelette with grated mozzarella, streaky bacon and onions.

Later finished off a tub of Greek yoghurt.

Tuesday 11 October - bed 7.2 FBG 7.3. Slightly up on yesterday but I'll put that down to the jab.
Hubby feeling kinda "off" having had both. I'm a bit tired and my arm is sore. Tiredness could just be due to such a busy day.

B. TAG - no time for anything else. First school run then stopped at Farm in-between to get rolls for the gardeners bacon butties (Hubby had to sort as I was straight to Physio after 2nd school run).

L. In between getting grandson's lunch ready, 2 slices of SLC toast with mortadella and whipped cheese. Then had to get DIL TO Physio further along the coast and hurry back to pick up boys when school came out (although son went to get youngest as I wasn't going to make it.

D. Before dinner, had to get son, DIL back to school for youngest's Parent/teacher meeting. He's doing fine.
Eventually, I used up some bits of fish from tge freezer - mix of salmon, cod, scallops, prawns in a cheese sauce with a dash of lemon. Some cheese sprinkled on top. Very tasty.

I have now collapsed! No gin - just water. Early night tonight I think. 20221011_184813.jpg

Arrived home yesterday evening at 9:30 or so with a nasty cold.
Didn't get to sleep from unwinding until 2 am.
Tuesday morning is swimming, and I put my alarm with the promise to myself I didn't have to go today if I didn't want to because the morning after holiday is still holiday, especially with a cold.

Woke up with too little sleep and the cold even nastier and decided I could just as well get up and go swimming, wouldn't make me feel more rubbish than I already did and I could buy some much needed groceries and veggies for the guinea pigs on the way back, leaving me the rest of the day to do exactly nothing, instead of trying to find courage to go to the store. :)
(Yes, did a self test to make sure I wasn't spreading covid in the pool.)

I absolutely love a simple creamy tomato soup when I'm under the weather so that's what I had, with more of the English bacon. :hungry:
Fried an onion with garlic and tomato paste, added water, veggie herbs stock cube, tinned tomatoes, English double cream. Which is amazing stuff, completely unlike any cream I know! Why don't we have it in the Netherlands???
Fried 3 slices of English bacon to go with it, a perfect meal! :hungry:

Late morning: black coffee and a phd bar.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a Food dr bar.
Dinner: liver in onion gravy with broccol, cauliflower and mangetout followed by SF cherry jelly and cream.

Hibernation mode, head cold, and sore arm after flu jab. Arm only just recovering from covid jab. Didn’t bother with breakfast, apart from a creamy coffee mid morning.
Two boiled eggs for lunch, with mayonnaise and black coffee.
salmon, broccoli and cream cheese for dinner, with sparkling mineral water.
Just had snack of a small piece of Frys chocolate cream. Haven’t tasted anything like that for years. It was disgustingly sweet. So to take away the taste, I am having a hot toddy of lemon, ginger, and brandy. Just for the sore throat.
Unlike Antje, I am too much of a wimp to attempt a swim until I feel better. I am an old woman, after all, and need to take care of myself. ;).

11:30 1 sausage, 1 slice bacon, 2 fried eggs. Cooked for me in loads of oil...!
18:30 Camzola cheese (blue brie), pecans, lamb meatballs and a greek salad. All very nice but now in bed and hungry

Note, not all 300g cream pots are the same shape. I bought 9 silicone lids until I found one that fits my favourite from Lidl. It's shaped like an old mob cap and does the job well

Edited to add the cream is from Lidl, the pot lid from IKEA

Morning all. Am fasting today as long as possible because at the weekend, spent with my 3 grandchildren, I forgot I was diabetic so now trying to undo the damage! It was the first time they had all been together for 22 years so it was extra special. Diabetic revue tomorrow and hand operation on Friday. But if I get hungry it will be sausages and cauliflower. Have a nice day everyone.

Some slices of very thin ham yesterday evening - I never buy smoked ham or bacon and it is usually fine, but this wasn't very tasty. Filled a gap, is about all that can be said for it.

Several cups of tea so far and just had a slice of toast and marmite. That's breakfast.

2nd meal will be pork belly slices - probably quite a lot later.

Late to rise and feeling pathetic with heavy cold and cough. Need comfort food. Always feel ravenously hungry when I have a cold. Only time I do, really.

Faux porridge, (coconut flour, ground almonds, egg, flaxseeds mixed with coconut milk and blasted in microwave) 5 frozen cherries and black coffee for breakfast.

Veg soup and piece of creamy Lancashire cheese for lunch. More black coffee.

Dinner was beef chilli, cauliflower rice, lemon and ginger tea.
Copious glasses of water throughout the day.

There will need to be a hot toddy with milk and either rum or brandy, whichever bottle I reach first. Just to help me sleep.;)
