What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

No breakfast, just black coffee, before a swimming pool workout.

lunch ham coleslaw, cheese more black coffee, decaff.

dinner, on this day https://globalscouseday.com/about/ it is the law in the Pipp house to indulge in the tradition. Problem ? Not exactly a keton800 fast sort of meal. I did make an attempt at an adapted recipe, by substituting root veg with celeriac, butternut squash, cauliflower, and courgette. It was fairly tasty. I let myself down by eating a small crust of sourdough bread with butter, to mop up the juicy food of the gods. I swerved the bottle of beer and opted for sugar free tonic water instead.
Ah well, it was worth it, and I will compensate tomorrow.

Morning all. 2 years ago today, my beautiful daughter had a massive stroke from which she never recovered. So today's menu will be anything if I fancy it. I do have some bacon and eggs but no appetite atm. Yesterday I ate for England, just can't cope with the grief .
I can't imagine how bad it can be to lose a child. Even if they are adult, it goes against everything that we expect of life. I do know how long it took me to get over losing my mother at a relatively early age, so can quite see how difficult this must be for you. Eventually, I believe it will ease a little, although it will always be there. If your grief affects you badly during the rest of the year, perhaps it is time to ask for help. There are cousellors out there who could offer relief and advice. Maybe you could ask your doctor what help might be available.

Both comfort eating and feeling completely unable to eat are normal reactions to grief, so just let your emotions guide you through the bad days. You are doing well the rest of the time and your diabetes can cope.

The sausage "casserole" wasn't so great last night. Just had one sausage out of it and a bit of a tomato. Lots left over for doing something else with.
The pain from the last few days has receded into my hip again - must have been some kind of inflammation from the arthritis. Still very sore, but nowhere near as bad as it was. Never had such pain before - not even childbirth; in fact, not even migraine which used to be a whole lot worse than childbirth or broken elbows - silly me did that twice! (The elbows, I mean.)

Breakfast: one of the cold sausages out of the casserole.
2nd meal will be the promised chicken curry - before the chicken goes out of date. There will be extra to go in the freezer and I will do some other things with the cooked sausages and tomato - not sure what yet but there's enough there to make at least 3 other meals.

Sorry you are having such a rough time. Hope today is better.

Ref. the egg thingy - having worked part-time on both a small free-range poultry farm (3 flocks of 100 each plus a couple dozen ducks and turkeys/5 flocks of 1000 each, hens only ) in the dark of the year they don't lay well unless under bright lights for some of the day/night (usually when shut in at night having been free-range during the day) to keep their ovaries firing. As the days draw out, so laying increases and eggs become more plentiful. Commercial laying breeds lay for longer and are usually exhausted after 18 months or so, though if then rehomed as pets, they will continue to lay for quite a few year, just not quite as often. Non-commercial breeds lay less frequently, and some rare breeds only for about a month each year - which is why they are rare!

I kept pet hens for many years and they are great fun.

Eggs

Millions of eggs are about to temporarily lose their free-range status, after hens in England, Scotland and Wales were ordered inside to protect them from an outbreak of avian flu in December. Under EU regulations, if a hen has been inside for more than 12 weeks, it no longer counts as free range. Farmers are getting around this with a sticker explaining that this temporary imprisonment was for the animals’ welfare. According to the RSPCA, legal requirements for free-range eggs ensure a minimum amount of space and litter for the hens: no more than nine hens a square metre, 10cm of feeder a bird and one drinker for 10 birds. Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) goes further, with a guide to Compassionate Food, grading various animal-welfare schemes out of 100. British Lion Free Range gets 33 on the scale, while RSPCA Assured gets 63. Find organic eggs with a Soil Association label, and you’re up to 70 points and happier hens.

NOTE: The link in the first line is to a 6 year old article, but I think it still applies.

Alistair had to slaughter the hens he kept when bird flu came on the scene because they were more feral than free range and it would have been cruel to keep them in, in the limited accommodation he had for them. Maybe that's why there is a shortage of eggs - if there really is one.

We try not to criticise on this thread as we each find our own way that works for us, but I do wonder if you could perhaps look after yourself a little better? I am worried about you
That's ok, I have to do better and I don't think anyone should follow what I ate today or yesterday.

Today has not been much better unfortunately:
B: nothing
L: nothing
D: Cup of reconstituted dried soup. 99% sugar free ice cream

There is a reason for this (I love eating!) which will be fixed by tomorrow. It could be fixed now but it's almost 9PM here so I'll have an orange or banana and call it a day.

I'll be back to eating normally tomorrow and not starving myself.

Tomorrow's planned menu (I bought everything this afternoon):
B: Bacon, eggs, tomato, orange juice. Maybe a banana
L: Quiche with salad (lettuce, tomato, onion, feta cheese, kalamata olives, corn kernels for carbs)
D: Corned beef with carrots and cabbage with garlic. Maybe mashed potato as well.... depends on my BSL

I might change breakfast because I'm having quiche for lunch (eggs) so a cereal breakfast might be better for balance and variety. So maybe cereal and yoghurt.... will see what happens in the morning

That sounds much better. Still, unless there's a reason for not having eggs twice, I would go with the bacon and egg breakfast.

Locked in! There's no reason I can't have eggs twice except for variety maybe. But I do like my bacon and eggs, so that's decided (that didn't take much persuasion). Edit: much, much better than "nothing" :)

The Coop sign said it was because of bird flu and the hens being kept inside so not officially free range, but that doesn’t explain why there were no eggs at all. Or why they couldn’t sell ‘not quite’ free range eggs!
Plenty eggs in our local supermarkets. The only thing that has gone is the double yolks, but that isn't unusual.

Brunch around 10:30 of a slice of schneiderbrot topped with ham, mayo, h/b egg and sliced avocado. Looked pretty but after 2 mouthfuls I realised the texture was all the same and it was boring. A large glug of chilli sauce helped.
Early aft- DGF cake
Dinner - a new product from a lovely local farm, 100% pork sausages ( ingredients: pork, salt) 4 of these, 3 on my plate and one eaten while plating up. Roast veg including a couple of big mushrooms and wasabi mayo to dip the veg in. S/f jelly and cream to follow.
Cup of tea now @RosemaryJackson many thanks again for your suggestion of freezing the milk in ice cube trays, I used some of those self seal freezer bags ( I have a few old packs of these in the cupboard and never use them) the ‘ice cubes’ are small, around 10g but 1 cube is the perfect amount for a cuppa and it’s a controlled size. 0.5g carbs per cube means I can easily assimilate into my daily total. Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and food dr bar.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a carb killa bar.
Dinner: salmon with hollandaise sauce and roasted Mediterranean veggies followed by SF strawberry jelly and cream.

After days of tasty but not very good looking food (I love peanut sauce but it doesn't improve the looks of your meal to be honest) I now made up for that with the prettiest meal I made in a long time!

No idea what type of lettuce it is, it was on offer and sold as 'snack lettuce'. It had a picture of stuffed lettuce leaves on it so I took the hint. :joyful:
I made 3 with garlic cream cheese, fried sucuk and onion and sundried tomatoes, 3 with cottage cheese, smoked trout fillets and horseradish, and 3 with egg mayo, raw onion and smoked pork belly.

Ate 2 of each, so tomorrow will be the rest plus a sandwich or such.
Very long day tomorrow, having the kittens neutered an hour drive away at a rescue center (cheap), so I'll spend the day there volunteering to pass the time until I can bring them back home. Have to be there at around 8 AM, which is pretty much the middle of the night for me, so not having to prepare dinner after getting home will be very welcome!

Very pretty. I hope they tasted as good as they look.

B: ff greek with chia seeds and walnuts. Still hungry so 2 hard boiled eggs.
Dancing, then a stroll which got cold and rainy so headed to tea shop. I had tea and about a third of hubbys carrot cake.
D: 2 sausages with 3 portobello mushrooms. A small ice cream and a hazelnut cake.

Must try to stem this carb creep
