What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Just had breakfast: bacon and onion omelette. Pills to follow with yoghurt to get them down. 3rd cup of tea shortly.

No point kidding myself that I will get around to a third meal today, so main meal will be lamb steak. I think it is what we used to call a chump chop, but I could be wrong. Might have a few onions and mushrooms with it.

First , I have to do some baking. I have a feeling that someone might be dropping in unannounced this afternoon. Not sure, but the way she was talking yesterday makes me suspect. She helps out various friends with driving lessons on a Sunday and often does end up getting them to drive here. These folk she helps are usually either Indian (Hindu/began) or Syrian (Moslem/Halal). I can't make anything vegan - don't have ingredients for that, but I will make something vegetarian and they can take it or leave it. Reminds me of the time she brought out a Canadian friend at lunch time quite a few years ago now - no problem; I had 2 pots of soup on the go anyway and home made bread. When Offered lunch the Canadian fellow told me he was coeliac and had other allergies. So - no bread - he couldn't take dairy products, so no butter anyway. One soup was minestrone (pasta and beans were out), the other was pea and ham (ham was another no no). Embarrassing not to have anything else to offer. These days I would just think it was their own fault for not warning me.

What to bake for today, though. Maybe some brownies and some cheese and caramelised onion scones. Have to see how it goes.
I shan't be having visitors this afternoon after all. My car "instructor" friend has dropped everything and is rushing to the west side of the Island because she has just heard that another friend's 17 year old daughter has died. Don't know what happened but the mother may need help or at least a shoulder to cry on. She's a single parent and without her daughter she will be completely on her own.

Well. There's good news and there's bad. My friend couldn't find the bereaved mother so went on to another village to ask the divorced father what had happened and how could she help. Turns out that there's nothing wrong with the daughter, she's as hale and hearty as she ever is. That's the good news. However, the mother has, apparently, had some kind of breakdown and is nowhere to be seen. She may have left the Island, or she may still be here somewhere. She may be at home but not answering the door. We don't know. We'll all be praying for her - can't expect an immediate recovery but she needs to be found and helped.

Sorry - this is all irrelevant to this forum - should have kept it to myself. Baking went fine but I ran out of steam before doing anythign else. I will rest for the next hour or so and then cook the lamb.

I indulged, quite unexpectedly, in a large glass of rum last night. For medicinal purposes. ;)
Slept late, Mr Pipp was waiting to have breakfast with me, at 10am, but I have got so used to not breaking my fast before 2pm I just wasn’t hungry. So he dined alone as I sipped black coffee.

Lunch, at 1 pm when I thought it was breakfast time, a cold sausage, left from earlier, mushrooms, and a fried egg. More black coffee.
Dinner braised beef brisket, celeriac mash, red cabbage, gravy, glass of Malbec.

Way behind again. Sunday 19 February - bed 6.8 FBG 6.7. Still very much under the weather.

B. TAG and a bit of crustless quiche

L. Nothing

D. Usual campari and soda. Roast chicken with GF stuffing, sprouts and spinach. CC little chocolate pot.

Monday 20 February - bed 7.8 FBG 7.7. I had planned on going to Aqua but I would have required oxygen!

B. TAG and a slice of SRSLY toast with butter

L. Nothing

D. Left over cold cuts. Ham, pork, roast beef, chicken, coleslaw, smashed avocado. CC Little chocolate pot.

Pretty much an Omad today. Black coffee until around 13:30 after taking granddaughters swimming. It was freezing, obviously trying to save costs by keeping temperatures a few degrees lower. Water was ok but changing rooms had no heat and it was really horribly cold. Should be glad they are staying open at all really.
Bag of Cheesies after swimming.
Main meal was the filling of a steak and mushroom pie. I cooked the meat yesterday and saved myself a portion. Cauli mash and cabbage. Glass of wine and cheese and nuts to follow.

Day 3 of one of my favourite meals. :)

I figured I could stretch it for an extra day by adding an egg and having just a little less meat, I definitely made enough veggies to do so.
Those duck eggs are huge so I fried one and ate half. The other half will either feature in tomorrow's meal, or somehow vanish at some point when I pass the kitchen, poth possibilities are fine because the ducks are really taking this egg laying thing seriously.

Cwc, then a walk with a friend
L: mozzarella with olives, then far too much chocolate. Found an unexpected bar of 70% caramel in the cupboard, scoffed the lot.

D: small hm chicken curry (no rice). Yoghurt with 1 plum and cream. A bit of camembert

Brunch - egg & smashed avocado on 2 slices slc bread toasted & buttered. Mug of earl grey tea

Dinner (out) - steak with peppercorn sauce, mushrooms, half of a tomato, 6 naughty chips & 2 small onions rings with a small portion of garden peas. Large glass of pepsi max

No matter how big the duck eggs, I applaud your restraint in only eating half. I can’t imagine ever eating half an egg. (Looks cracking (!) though.)

Very easy if your plate is over-full with other yummy stuff. :joyful:
Second half of the egg has already disappeared though, forgot to put a lid on the pan. :bag:
Cats deserve a lucky day too, so all is well! :cat:

In a week I'll go 'shopping' in Germany with a friend to celebrate our birthdays and escape people expecting a party.
'Shopping' will consist of visiting German supermarkets, foreign supermarkets just give me the ultimate holiday vibes. :hilarious:
On the list already are zwiebelmettwurst, herring in sahnesauce and of course booze, which is cheaper over there.

Any other favourite German groceries I should buy?

Breakfast: Fried bread (using the dripping cooked out from the lamb yesterday) with scrambled egg. Just about to make that.
2nd meal: Curried chicken in coconut milk.

I had a little piece of one of the scones I made yesterday (a bit broken off from the last, left-over bits of dough). Very tasty, but not very cheesey. Either the very mature cheddar I used didn't stand up to baking or I just didn't use enough (I was following a recipe and it said 1 oz of cheddar, grated). The additional caramelised onions was my own addition and that was the only flavour I could get from the little bit I had. Any guest eating the scones would have to be a fan of onion, like me.

Gave the brownies to Alistair for his family. He had come with the dinner he was cooking to put it in my oven because their own had broken down (water somehow got into the junction box). It worked, but not entirely, he asked for it to be set at 225C but my oven must be different to theirs because the apple crumble he had made was seriously scorched. That's why I gave him the brownies - in case anyone objected to burnt apple crumble.

Morning all. Just having my cwc. Am late up today, slept very heavy so I'm having trouble waking up! Monday lunch club today so no idea yet but am not having the pudding as I'm taking 2 buttered crackers (3.7g carbs each) with cheese with me. Slice of ham for tea. I'm happy to say I'm not craving carbs any more. Wonder how long it will last. @shelley262 got my grains and have put them in organic milk in my airing cupboard . My son bought me a yoghurt maker for my birthday so I shall do it in that in future. Have a lovely day and week everyone

For cheese scone (they’re legendary, even if I say so), I sub half the butter for strong cheese, then a little egg wash and sprinkle more on top.

Phoned for test results, HbA1c was up 2 to 47 from 45 in 2022. :/

Doc also wanted me to book a routine appt 2-4 weeks to discuss something about a bone profile blood test that was done, no idea what that is about but hoping its nothing to worry about, but obviously plays on the mind in the interim.

Was a bit disappointed in the raise, though I only need to have hbA1c checked yearly (maybe it hasn't gone up at all but gone down as last one was June 22 and was out of control eating all the until the end of last year, when I started feeling really rough from eating carbs.), I guess also I've only gone low carb for the last 6-7 weeks, and lost 20lb so far, so hopefully next years one will be lower, unless I am able to request one sooner.

To get back on topic

Breakfast: Coffee with cream
Lunch: 200g of minced beef and onion in the pan, plum tomatoes, mixed peppers, mixed herbs, garlic, sweet paprika, salt, pepper, and a bit of grated cheese on top.

Probably be it for the day but might have a plate of spinach with some mackerel mixed in later if hungry.
A bone profile blood test analyses the protein, enzymes, etc. in your bones. It helps them find the effect your metabolism is having on your bones, basically. I always go on the principle, if it's serious, they act quickly. If it's routine you have to wait.

Having a bad day. At least BG is steady, although not low - between 7.5 and 8.5 all day. Had my breakfast - shouldn't have made me feel bad but something did. By 11 am I had developed the most excruciating abdominal pains and weakness. My cleaner came and it was a miserable perch out of the way while she did the floors and then into the big chair with m feet up until a few minutes ago. Cold most of the time but rally hot and bothered for about an hour in the interim. Shivery now. Feels like a hypo, but not at this BG level.

As a result, I doubt very much if I will make the curry. Maybe, like Maglil, fall back on the tomato soup - if only to warm me up.
