Hi
@George775 I am/was a normal weight T2D - or TOFI (Thin Outside Fat Inside) as some say. I'm not taking part in this challenge, but I only eat 2 meals per day on weekdays and one per day (OMAD) at weekends. I have been in no medication T2D remission for nearly 4 years.
Back when I started on my road to remission I ate 3 meals per day and I found my highest BG readings of the day were often before breakfast (i.e. the longest period of going without food). This phenomenon goes by 2 names, both of which are slightly misleading because it happens after a fast rather than at a time of day or after sleep:-
Dawn Phenomenon (DP) or Foot On The Floor Syndrome (FOTF).
Since there have been no carbs (or even calories) consumed, the glucose is coming from the liver and is an attempt to give us enough fuel to be able to go hunt/gather our first meal just like our remote ancestors did. What I and many others have found is that A). It's rarely a serious problem, B). A small zero carb snack like a chunk of cheese or even a coffee with double cream will usually stop it in its tracks, C). As we became Fat Adapted (on Low Carb) the DP rise became less and less noticeable.
